Are potential managers put off by a season in the 2nd tier, or the strong possibility that our existing squad will be severely depleted due to the sale of several key assets.
If we go down I'd expect a bigger clear out than if we stay up.
It could be seen as a new start for the club. There is some serious pruning needed.

I don't disagree but any incoming manager would then need to be given time to build their own squad and implement their style of play, and that's why an instant return might be tough, we may have to look at Bournemouth, who sold a few when they went down, and in their 1st season back only made the play-off's, before securing an automatic place this season.

Given the scale of the turnover I don't see it being a quick fix for anyone, particularly if the purse strings are tightened, which they almost certainly would have to be.

Yes, I wouldn't disagree with any of that.
If we go down I think we will need some clever use of the loan market. Kompany with his Man City connections would be great in this respect.

Think most level headed Clarets wouldn’t have a problem with it taking 2 years to get back up, if we went down, if it meant re-stabilising the club. No guarantees though are there?

Yes loans are definitely an area we can improve on, and if funds are tight we may well have to resort to some clever loans.

That and perhaps blooding some of the youngsters as well, both those fields have been badly neglected for far too long in my view.

If we do go down, and dont get back up within 2 years, the financial situation doesnt bear thinking about

The phrase, we can't afford to go down, comes to mind.

We are relying on the strength and commitment of Sean Dyche's largely British squad, despite a huge chunk of the being out of contract and possibly no ongoing commitment to Burnley.

Thatmt is a big ask.

Two more matches and we would owe them eternal gratitude, if they succeeded.

It would be a very grim lap of honour, for everyone, if we went down on the last day!

i think we need someone who will see it as a rebuilding project regardless of our last two results this season.
Shame, cos i would prefer Kompany.

IMO would be a great appointment.
however, if he's only interested in the PL he's hardly what we are likely to need.
i'd have thought either division would have been a great opportunity.

Championship with a cash strapped Burnley or stay with one of Belgium’s biggest clubs / join a Bundesliga team. It would be downwards move for him to join us in the Champ.

Mechelen have agreed to release their manager (Steven Defours current boss) for another club. Not saying there’s anything in it but it’s a coincidence.

Would be a strange signing in my opinion. Hasn’t really pulled up any trees in the Belgian division. I guess we have to trust the owners have seen something in him

Anderlecht were going through their worst spell in their history I believe when he took over. He’s steadied the ship, finishing in the top 3 back to back, while having a very young squad.

Yes I can see that’s doing a decent job. But not exactly pulling up any trees.

I would be happy to give him a go but he’s not someone I would be confident could keep us up like some of the other names mentioned.

I guess with managers you just have to trust the owners judgement

Which other names would you be confident keeps us up?

The other names linked are Knutsen, Wilder and Rooney.

All 3 of those would be similar risks and arguably Kompany is the most exciting one. Will be interesting to see if his connection to City means we could get a couple in on loan from them. Cole Palmer and Liam Delap would be nice.

I know nothing about Kompany as a manager and for that reason it’s a bit exciting really. Who could even begin to guess what sort of player he’d look to bring in etc.

To be honest I would be more confident with all three. Like I said I would give him a go but he certainly seems the riskier of the names linked.

Kompany just gave Haaland a medical on City's behalf so that level of partnership would surely help us, loans etc.

He apparently plays quite a fluid system which though different sounds a bit like Wilder with non-static centre backs. We know Kompany is a clever chap so hopefully he knows something that will work.

So if we stay up, a big if, there is a lot to be hopeful for. We will have more cash to spend than Anderlecht too.

That’s quite interesting. Like you say, that could only bode well with securing some loans. City have some outstanding young talent. Worth mentioning his wife is from Manchester and considers the area his ‘home’.

Hopefully he can bring a couple of the kids from Anderlecht with him, he's developed some nicely. Zirzkee would be an excellent addition upfront, was on loan from Bayern this season, think Bayern want rid, 8 mill euros a figure I saw quoted. Verschaeren is the one, hell of a talent.

How much will the new manager have to spend on new players?

1. If we remain in the PL
2. If we get relegated

Imo it’s just as important (and urgent) for Alan Pace to ‘recruit’ a multi-million pound investor(s) as well as a top quality new manager.

Does this only apply if the borrowing club is also in the EPL?

I’d love any of the two players you mention. If we are shopping at Bayern, I’d also look at Gabriel Vidović.

Obviously outside investment would be welcome, but I'd guess that's only likely to occur if we remain in the PL.

If we get relegated any manager will have buttons to spend I'm afraid, and it'll be more a case of what bargains we can find in the market.

Kompany odds been dropping again today, now 1/2 on Skybet

An article in the People today saying if Kompany gets the job his assistant could be Craig Bellamy. He was his No2 at Anderlecht but had to leave due to suffering from depression, but is now well enough to return.
