The Longside chant is probably one of those that sounds much better to those amongst it than it does (for instance) on the radio.

Oh my lads .................."coming down the Brunshaw road to see the Burnley aces"
Was always one of my favorites, I think i heard it on tv a couple of games back.
Followed by very loud chants of Burnley & clapping.

Is this what we resort to when the football causes a loss of interest?

Jeruselum is what what? A what now?
Jeruselum is a Romantic movement poem extolling William Blake's personal interpretation of Christian internal strife. It's about following your own path and not capitulating to societal demands (edit- and also not capitulating to organized religion / denominations).
You might want to consider studying it properly before making any further statements on the poem.

It helps change the subject slightly but I've disliked this chant from day one.ClaretAndBlue94 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 12, 2022 2:15 pmIs this what we resort to when the football causes a loss of interest?
The contuation of the final line "We are the Longside, Burnley" was kinda funny once or twice. But now it's a monotonous drone that prevents us singing much better songs.

We often sing ‘Jerusalem’ at my Catholic church

Z cars was broadcast to the whole of the UK so I'm not sure why Watford or anyone else shouldn't use it...........I actually think it's a crap tune for anyone to use by the way.

The funniest thing on this thread is that a Burnley fan thought it was “ we are alongside Burnley “

And we don't need religion at football matches either. Leave that rubbish for the Scots.

Something being stolen from Liverpool rather than the other way round
By a bus stop in London.

Re: "We Are the Longside" is an dreadful chant
It's a poem, set to a tune, re-branded as a "hymn", adopted by the WI and sang in congregations (largely due to a misunderstanding of what it actually represents) of various denominations.
I'd hate to see the rancid sectarianism that infects Scottish football adopted this side of the border but the actual words of the poem are not related to the way the sectarians think or act. If they understood Blake's poem properly they might well stop singing it.
Anyone daft enough to denounce it as a "prody song" is equally mistaken and has demonstrated a grave lack of understanding.

Re: "We Are the Longside" is an dreadful chant
Can't believe people are arguing over a crappy song like Jerusalem when the theme tune to Happy Days is far better and is universally loved. If this became Burnley's anthem then we could have the team entrance music as the classic Weezer hit "Buddy Holly"
