However, to think that I have spent 6 consecutive seasons watching my football club punch above its' weight against the world's best footballers, is something I could only have dreamt of. I understand your sentiment however, that is to look through rose-tinted (perhaps beer-infused) glasses which it's easy to do. There is no doubt that seeing us lose 6-5 at Grimsby, or 5-0 at Oxford, even 5-0 and then 6-0 at home consecutively to both Gillingham and City respectively don't compare.

If we could guarantee fighting at the top of the Championship year after year then great. But with this lot and the new structure? I am seriously concerned about what the future holds.

For a club like Burnley though, adversity brings the excitement. Relegation fights, promotion battles, derbys. That’s what we have. We are never going to fight for Europe every year, at best at this level we are going to be doing what we have done for the past few years, playing awful football which is good enough to upset the opposition and put enough points on the board to stay up. That’s fine and I’ve no crape with Dyche, i love the man, but I’d be lying if I’d say the uncertainty doesn’t hold some excitement

I was at The Madjeski in 2009 - and at that 5-0 rout at Oxford. And I pretty much agree that there was more fun and excitement in The Championship.

Pub on way there, chippy near the ground, loads of away fans - they just kept coming in - great goal from Barnsey, crap ground but full of atmosphere. Good days.

Have really enjoyed the seasons where we have struggled in the prem, the constant looking at other fixtures, the butterflies in the stomach watching the games knowing how important they are. Strangely the seasons where we have stayed up easily haven't seemed as interesting to me when other results don't matter and you are not constantly on tenterhooks.

If (and it's still an if) we go down then at least there won't be 10 games or so in the season where you pretty much know that usually the best you can get is a point from it.

Whilst totally getting that I'd say the PL is Ok if you are (or think you are) some kind of football expert. There are many who enjoy the Championship day out. Nothing wrong with that.

I don't think idolized is the correct word, he comes across as a good fella does SC, he did a very very good job to keep us in the division given the finances and mess he walked into. When he walked in we had something like 6 signed first team players. Signed some very good players with little to work with. The football wasn't the most pleasing on the eye and it ended poorly with the long winless run but there was a period in that run where he had to use Michael Duff as a striker.

Really not sure what your beef is, or why you’re spoiling for an argument. I believe the English leagues are better attended than the German leagues. But as I could only find statistics from 2018 which I’ve linked below, I was posing the question to KRBFC who may have contradictory and more current stats to share. Continue with your childlike behaviour by all means, but you’ll be the one cringing in the afternoon when you wake up with a headache.

Agree with everything you said. Starts with the pricing though, just looking at ticket price for Stoke v QPR, £33 for an adult ticket, £19 for an u18 ticket. Stoke have 4 games of the season left, they're 15th in the league so aren't going up or down. Daylight robbery prices for a meaningless match.

If tickets were highly demanded and like gold dust, huge demand, I'd understand the pricing a little but the stadium holds 30,000 people and their average home attendance this season has been 20,000. If it was a hugely important match and there was huge demand, fair enough but £33 an adult ticket for a meaningless end of season kick about is a joke.

The longer you can stay up the better stead you'll be in the future. We've already seen that with the changes to our academy and training ground.

The longer you stay up the more you grow your fan base and reputation vis-a-vis you can attract better staff and players. Not only that, but playing at a higher level will mean you have the chance to develop better players too.

We'll always be Burnley fans no matter the division and of course games where you stand a good chance to win are more fun but I'll take struggling knowing it increases our prospects in the long term.

Championship football especially if we don't get promoted again in 1 or 2 years could really hurt us. It's just far better to stay in the league as long as possible if we can.

Watching football is about enjoyment for me. I've hardly enjoyed any of the last few years BUT we've pulled out some amazing results, mind blowing stuff considering our squad. I'd much rather stay in the PL and see if they can manufacture a good rebuild than drop and see us struggle to do one

It would but you would have to trawl through the oatcakes archives back to when pulis was about as an example, but that necessarily wouldn’t be a sure fire indicator because what 1 person might feel another might feel the opposite, it’s no different to here with some people saying the PL won’t be missed & bring on the championship & some people saying staying in the PL is the preferred option, you are looking for a consensus what doesn’t exist!

It’s always most enjoyable when your side is playing good football and winning. That makes the Premier League experience slightly masochistic. Feeling your club is on the way up is when things get exciting. Always loved the time when Trevor Steven came on the scene and started making us tick, or when Ings and Vokes were looking world beaters.
Yes aiming for the top is what we should be doing, but watching the often unequal battles can become tiring.

It's a sad indictment of our supporters that so many would rather we play prettier football at a lower level, where the club's future was in doubt for much of the last 20+ years, than less attractive but effective football at the highest level.
It's even sadder that these same supporters often then accuse other people of lack of ambition for wanting grinding Premier League survival over flashy Championship unpredictability.
