Are Everton fans (or PL fans in general) really that out of touch?

I was reading grandoldteam (Everton forum) last night to get a gist of what their thoughts were after this weekends set of games, and I was genuinely stunned to come across these 2 comments, and they weren’t even contested on there either. This posters lad had never even heard of Sheffield Wednesday, and had to google if Charlton still existed. I really hope we relegate them.

I used to hate premier league fans not knowing much about Burnley, but sadly I don't know that much about the lower leagues these days.
The Premier league televise their games nearly every night. It's been non stop blanket coverage for a few years now.

To be fair Everton would face a lot more problems than Burnley, if they go down. They don't comply with EFL fair play, have a massi e squad, full of players on huge wages, that would be very difficult to get out of the club. If you add the money they are spending on the new ground, it really isn't a healthy situation.

Most of their fans give us a lot of respect, just because of the way we are fighting for survival, they see their own players as powder puffs.

I really don’t blame them for not know the ins and outs of clubs, but to say he didn’t even know clubs such as Portsmouth or charlton even existed, and for it not to be even challenged on their forum, genuinely shocked me.

They'll be fine. They'll do that whole 'camaraderie' thing - like when Newcastle, Leeds and Man City fans came out of the woodwork to attend away games with small grounds.

If Everton go down they’ll come straight back up at a canter. They won’t have the same issues Leeds had.

It may even be good for them in the longer as I’ve long thought they are a club in need of a bit of a reset.

I don't understand the whole 'nightmare' of relegation thing. My biggest worry about Burnley's relegation is the actual existence of the club, especially with this new ownership model. However, if we did get relegated, I'll still enjoy a matchday just as much as being in the Premier League, it's just a different experience and a different journey.

For me, playing Chelsea away is just as important as playing Cheltenham away at the end of the day and I think I'll still be there if we were in League Two with just 6,000 on

To be honest, I just think the guy is a moron.

He remembers Portsmouth regularly getting 30,000 in the Premier League - which is some effort in a ground that holds 21,000.

I schadenfreude read Grand Old Team pretty regularly. A spiteful, deluded fan base they have over there. Liverpool fans don’t even hate Everton as much as their own fans do.

The answer is no, they're not really relevant or contributing much to the overall quality of the PL.

The reason they don't know much about leagues outside the PL is because they've never been there for the majority of their fans, so they've never felt the need to take an interest, they're considered to be a permanent fixture in the top flight.

A spell in the championship would do them some good tbh

Bang on GIADJ Everton are one of those clubs who think they'll never go down, and it would extremely satisfying if they experienced life outside the PL bubble.

500m they'e spent on that squad, and yet they face the prospect of playing the likes of Rotherham & Wigan next season.

I think there is an inherent lack of knowledge, bordering on sheer ignorance from a lot of supporters of Premier League clubs. Some of the comments I’ve read on various forums, the BBC’s Have Your Say for instance, smack of elitist silver spoon-fed disparage when people discuss Burnley. Quite often Stoke, Bolton and West Brom are used as ugly comparisons.

I’m not surprised at all that there are examples of an astonishing lack of knowledge from those supporters in the op.

I used to comment, but really can’t be bothered nowadays.

If teams aren't competing in the top 6-8 regularly, then you wouldn't miss most teams in the PL
