Games to match today in terms of late excitement

Post by tiger76 » Sat Apr 30, 2022 6:07 pm

Two that spring to my mind are.

Bolton away in our Championship winning campaign we were trailing Bolton for much of the match, then Andre struck twice late on to seal the win.

PNE under Laws when they imploded in the final 10 and blow a 3-1 lead, Chris Iwelumo netted a HT that day, and Jay nicked the winner at the death.

Both important but nowhere near as vital as that crazy 5 minute spell today.

Another one just came to me, Cardiff away in the Div 4 title season, they were one of if not the closest of our rivals, and we bagged 2 IT goals as I recall to win 2-0, and effectively seal our promotion that night.

Ian Wright also netted a few late winners during his brief spell at TM, Notts County is one that I remember, but the others escape me ATM.

Cardiff away was earlier in the season. The big game against them was a Tuesday night match at home where Painter scored after about 16 seconds. We did get two goals close together in second half to go from 1-1 to 3-1 but they weren't near the end.

Turf Moor was doing the Mexican wave in the last 5 mins such was the relief to win that game

So it was just checked February 29, obviously must have been a leap year, but it was an important win in Wales as our form had been patchy since the whirlwind start of Mullen's tenure, and despite the odd blip we never looked back following that victory as we marched to the title.

Boro at home in 15/16 goal. Only for a draw but absolutely crucial. Not sure we’d have been promoted never mind champions if that hadn’t gone in.

Cardiff away was still a big win but the home win against Cardiff eased a lot of the promotion nerves and got our sights set on top spot

Yep. Remember that one. 1 down with not long left, won 2-1. The night John Bond disguised himself as a steward. What a tool.

Bristol City (A) in Nov 81. 2-1 down won 3-2. Even though we were still 20th you just felt we could do it after that.

Is that the one when the rocks rained down on us and the police thought we were trying to invade the pitch, rather than save our lives?

Yep but think it was after the game. Burnley fans got kept in and home fans went round back of stand and started lobbing bricks at us. I think the floodlights might even been switched off and so we were getting showered with bricks in the dark

Hull away when we won 3-2

We were hilariously crap until we scored, then we absolutely battered them and you can't beat a last minute winner

Was that when David Edgar scored?

If so, I remember being at work and checking my phone and seeing us losing then on my way home I checked the score again and we'd somehow won.

Dunno why that game sticks with me, but there we are.

3 o clock kick off methinks. I remember walking through a car park where loads of car windows had been smashed.

Police bothered? Did they look bothered? NO!

I remember that game, great comeback. I think we drew 3-3 against Orient the week before. Also 1976 I think we were 0-2 down against Wesf Ham. David Cross scored both their goals, we came back to win 3-2 and it was a featured match on MOTD when they only showed a couple of games each week.

It def was a 3pm kick off but in winter it can get dark after 5pm. It might not have been as dark as I remembered but for some reason its in my head they turned floodlights off with Burnley fans still being kept in by the police

He was right.

I can remember very clearly that it was light because of my circuitous route back to Cardiff Station. Sunset would have been around 6.00pm in Cardiff on that date!
