Tonight’s Play Off

Post by ClaretTony » Thu May 05, 2022 8:34 pm

Seeing as the Euro games have been given their own thread - one for the Wycombe v MK game.

1-0 to Wycombe at half time but Sam Vokes has just had a second ruled out for a tight offside.

I think they'll need a couple more to take to MK.
Hopefully, Sam'll fill his boots.

I remember going to Wycombe when, I think it was a 0.0. I nearly got to see the next home game it took that long to get away from the ground!

Wycombe fans chanting - Off off off and Lee Hendrie on commentary suggesting it wasn’t going to be a red, seemingly unaware that he’d got a first yellow just five minutes earlier. They were just about to take him off too.

Nice little ground, Adams Park, with that wooded hillside behind one side.
Only been once, late '90s got beat 2-1 think Andy Cooke scored.

Brilliant goal from him. Took a ball down in the box superbly, laid it off wide and then headed in the cross.

Seem to remember us getting battered by Wycombe the only time I went there and Lenny Johnrose getting a red card - is that right or am I merging two different matches together

Anyway rooting for them and especially Vokesy in this one. If they get through the final is going to be tough

They've got to keep a clean sheet tonight, then they've a great chance to get through.

Two sent off that day. Lenny and then Ally Pickering. Lenny’s was an awful challenge; he said he was just a bit late.

Waddle season. That day in Feb when we were all in shorts in the hot weather.

We did lose 5-0 there that I recall in the late 90's I think. Not sure about the red card though.

However emerges from this tie will probably be the underdogs against either Sheff Wed or Sunderland, but equally there will also be huge pressure on the favourites to gain promotion.

Delighted for Sam, made a scape-goat at Stoke, but has really shown his metal in his performances for WW and seems to be loving life again.

Well done Wycombe.

Just as an aside to this game. In the second leg Wycombes fans have been given an allocation and MK Dons have split the allocation by putting a block to one side of the goal, then leaving a massive gap and the rest of the allocation in the corner of the stand.

The away allocation is also 2000 in a 30k stadium.

Franchise being franchise.

Wimbledon let him go when they moved up to League One six years ago, and he's gone and played over 200 times for Wycombe since. Nice touch to bring him on last night for final home game but they did take off their best player for those last few minutes.

And tonight Sunderland v Sheff Wed, could be a good game, 2 big clubs desperate to get out of League 1.

Just seen the goals.

As Tony said, very good goal. You can't ask any more of a centre-forward than win the first ball, play it out to the flank and then power home the cross.

Delighted for Sam. I hope Wycombe can go all the way.

Yep, just seen it on SkySports' website myself https://www.skysports.com/football/wyco ... ons/463547
Nice take down and lay-off from a long ball played up (with a oppo players close to him) then taking up a good position followed by a very powerful header just inside the post from the subsequent cross.
