Half time interviews with managers
Saw this idea being mooted the other week for next season.
Either at the beginning or the end of the half time interval, the manager would speak to the media.
Could be interesting if one of the big teams has had a dire first half against someone like us ...
Downside is it distracts the manager from his job of giving the motivational half time team talk

Re: Half time interviews with managers
Jimmy Mullen did a brief half time interview when we played Sheff Utd. Can’t think of many more.
Adrian Heath did one from the touchline during the game when we beat Bury 3-0

it is part of the cyclical what have we got left to trade to preserve/increase the value of the offering particularly at a domestic level - will be used to get viewers to stick around for the adverts rather than dash off to the kitchen/loo
Re: Half time interviews with managers
Maybe put a camera/mic pitch side for full effect!
Do I not like that..!!

Didn’t Phil Brown once keep Hull on the pitch at half time ?

I personally like the idea of knowing managers thoughts mid way through the game. Maybe home team before HT, away team at the end. Understand why managers would hate it though.
I think there are other things they could do to enhance the viewing experience - insights in to the dressing room (some obvious privacy challenges with that, but it’d make fascinating viewing), edited/delayed audio of ref & linesman/player conversations, integration of social media feedback or polls to the commentary, even some form of body cams on refs/players in future as technology progresses.
All sounds a bit far out but if you look at the access F1 gives fans to driver/team conversations, garage access, in race team principal interviews, constant access to data and audience participation in driver of the day polls, etc, the PL is a long way behind. Whether fans really want those changes is a different question.

I’d be much more interested in what the ref, 4th official or even the Var ref had to say.

This sort of thing was quite common back in the days when live matches were the exception rather than the rule.

Their thoughts after a game are usually a load of ‘I’m only doing this because I have to’ type waffle, half time would be as bad if not worse.NewClaret wrote: ↑Fri May 06, 2022 12:44 pmAgreed.

Re: Half time interviews with managers
This isn't a new idea. It's been done before and should be brought back for televised games

Re: Half time interviews with managers
For the televised games I’d like to see something similar to the T20 cricket where one of the outfield players is miked up, and is able to answer questions posed by Carragher etc when the ball is down the other end of the pitch.

There's enough phone in shows where the general public are allowed to air their opinions, let's not turn commentary into another. I can't see how knowing that Gary from Northampton thought it was a penalty adds anything.NewClaret wrote: ↑Fri May 06, 2022 12:44 pmAgreed.

Re: Half time interviews with managers
Way to many interviews. I can already see Jackson is ****** off with them. The later after match ones are useless, especially when you can’t hear the dam questions.

Re: Half time interviews with managers
I’d bin interviews completely, managers never tell the truth while the media pick what they want for their own narrative anyway and Footballers are so media trained they are like robots.
The press are the worst, they know managers get fined for criticising officials yet always ask the the question about if there should’ve been a red card or a penalty for instance.

Re: Half time interviews with managers
They do this in the National League when games are live on BT Sport, chat with each manager at half time and also have a quick 30 second chat with them midway through each half, I bet it drives them mad.
