Is A Leeds Or Everton Collapse Now Our Best Hope?

Post by ElectroClaret » Sat May 07, 2022 5:01 pm

Can't really see us getting many more points this season,
Spurs away speaks for itself, Villa away and a resurgent Newcastle.

Just hope the rest drop points, too.

I think it's our *only* hope sadly.

And I don't think either will happen.

I think our season will be decided by tomorrow’s results, which is why I’m remaining optimistic until they’re in.

Everton should do enough with their home games. I think it's down to whoever can pull a surprise result between us and Leeds. Can't see either team getting more than 2-3 points now.

I'm inclined to agree given our injury situation.

At least we've given it a bit of a go though

Everton will be fine. We need to hope Leeds lose the next two and we match their results from the two easier games. As I've said, a big bonus for me is the fact that we'll know what we need at Villa Park.

We'll beat Newcastle. If we can get a point at Villa or Spurs or better we’ll be ok.

Leeds' next two games = nil points

Keep the faith.

Hopefully Leeds will not match our results and give us a lifeline.
Whatever happens between now and the end of the season it's still far better than what it was a month or so ago.

The Leeds game against Arsenal will tell us so much about their prospects.

Agree with this.

It’s between us and Leeds.

We need 4 points from Villa and Newcastle.

Our goal difference is worth a point, which makes it 5, so Leeds will need 2 wins from Arsenal, Chelsea, Brighton and Brentford.

That’s what I thought about Everton’s games vs United and Chelsea.

I'd fancy Leeds for a point against Chelsea's reserve team, 2 days before the FA CUP final.

That late Wolves goal 1. Gives arsenal extra incentive to catch Chelsea 2. Leaves Chelsea needing to get back to winning ways against Leeds ahead of their cup final

Agree with the comments regarding our goal difference, we're currently 17 better than Leeds, hopefully
that will increase if /when they get beaten at Arsenal tomorrow.

GD could be vital.
Although there's a possibility it could take a hit at Spurs next week.

At this stage goal difference is completely irrelevant unless you bring Everton into the scenario.

Match Leeds and we stop up.

It’s without doubt our only chance now :(

I did think Southampton might’ve got drawn in if we’d got a win or even a point today but no chance now.

If we go down we go down, think most if not all thought we were as good as gone after the poor away match at Norwich. We then came out fighting, climbed the table, and at 17:30 Tonight we are still outside the drop. The point being is the last month we at least gave it a go and we showed fight and spirit, it might prove not to be enough but at least we showed some fight.

Leeds have 4 fixtures that are far from straightforward on paper. Apart from the obvious, Brighton and Brentford are finishing the season well (and the right one goes to and hosts leeds given their records).

If they win a couple of them then fair play to them but even if they don't win another game I'm not sure it would class as a collapse.

Everton is a slightly different matter but then it always was; they're a better team.

Got to hope Mee and/or Tarks are back for Villa away at the latest, but this is a lot less done than it might have been 3 weeks ago.

Matching Leeds seems our only hope, and looking at our performance and next fixtures it's more of a case of needing Leeds to match us by failing to get anything from the last 4.

Before today I thought we would lose, then go to Villa and win, that's how we usually do it, the hard way !
A Leeds or Everton collapse would help mind.

It’s our only hope I’d say, I’m afraid. If Leeds get no points from Arsenal and Chelsea then it’s a straight shoot out with two games left each, and today can be forgotten.

Just seen Spurs are winning at Anfield, as well as effectively handing City the title, you do wonder if history will repeat itself, Spurs won at City, then lost at TM a few days later.

We were dead and buried a month ago.
Well done to MJ and the interim management team for at least making a fight of it. Might as well enjoy what's left of the season, whatever the outcome.

I'm worried our season ended when Tarks went off injured. If that was anything other than precautionary then yes, we're depending on a Leeds or Everton collapse.

I think many of us fear that Leeds or Everton will
get more than 3 points (or more) over the next four games.
We're hoping they don't and that we do.
Get at least three points from our next three.
And hope neither Leeds or Everton do.

We'll have a better idea after tomorrow but I think we need at least 4 points if not more.

Apparently Brighton are Leeds’ bogey side, from memory it is something like lost 8 of the last 10. Brighton are also one of the best in the league away and don’t look like they are on the beach. I worry more about Chelsea than Brighton.

If, by sheer luck, Leeds do lose their next three we have two chances to get the win we need, and even then, Leeds could lose or draw at Brentford.

We also have Cornet back who is our best goalscorer by far and we just need one of Mee or Tarky to be fit.

Not saying we will do it, but we have a good chance.

How many points were Everton getting v manure?

How many points were Everton getting v Chelsea?

We simply cannot look at fixtures and decide who’s getting what.

We need others to drop points.

Everybody thought we would beat Villa after our decent run. Not me, you have to be realistic. I honestly don't think we will get another point. If Leeds and Everton gain points, fair play. Will not stop me from going to Spurs and Villa though. What will be will be.

Was supping with a leeds fan and an Everton fan last night and all 3 of us were adamant it was our respective club would go down. Leeds are particularly bricking it because getting dragged in has caught them by surprise

My view:

Everton will be safe. They have two games in hand and home games vs Brentford & Palace will see them safe even if they lose today.

I’d swap fixtures with Leeds. I wouldn’t have done before yesterday, but since we lost, they’re now left with the easier fixtures and Arsenal is a free hit. Home against Chelsea isn’t as hard as it would’ve been earlier in the season & I think they’ll take points off Brighton & Brentford more easily than we will do off Villa away & Newcastle.

A real shame but unless either truly do implode or suffer some horrendous setback injury wise (to match our Tarky injury), I can’t see it.

I think a big game for us is Spurs Arsenal on Thursday. If Spurs loose they will effectively have nothing to play for against us as top 4 will be pretty much beyond them.

If they beat Arsenal they will have to beat us, and we haven’t done well down there at all.

I’ll tell you how, it won’t be popular on here, but because of SD negative, boring framework.

And as it stands had we beaten Norwich that day, I believe we’d now be in a much better position, so as good as SD had been for us, it’s his fault we are were we are now.

Just think what an extra 3pts would of done for us now.
