Pope 5
Roberts 5 nowhere for the 2nd goal
Tark 5
Collins 6
Taylor 5 not helped at all by...
Lennon 3 absolutely useless, barely touched the ball, hiding centrally and providing no target for Taylor to overlap, it's like playing with 10 men with him on the pitch.
Brownhill 4 lost the ball again for the 3rd and set them on the counter, gives the ball away far too much at this level, got to play with more quality/structure, you can't just keep setting the opposition away on wide open counter attacks.
Cork 5
Mcneil 8 best player on the pitch first half.
Barnes 4 was ok in the first half I guess
Wout 4 normally he's made things happen, created chances for others, provided a threat. Today he was crap.

Pope 6
Roberts 4
Collins 6
Tarkowski 6
Taylor 4 - dreadful today, seemed to be playing at half speed
Lennon 5
Cork 5
Brownhill 5 - Works hard but I just don’t think he’s a PL quality player
McNeil 6
Weghorst 4
Barnes 4

Long 6
Cornet 7

Naive today - we were better against Watford when we had our wingers on their natural side and again today we made the mistake of starting with them as inverted wingers.

Also a disgrace trying to play premier league football in 2022 with an isolated front two with players that lack acceleration/sprint speed like Weghorst and Barnes.

Vydra is a big miss.

Far too open at the back. Nice neat football but wide open with our fullbacks too far forward.

Rookie manager syndrome I am afraid.

There was so many errors for that 2nd goal you could blame about 4 or 5 for it. Pope should save it, half the team are stood watching Buendia unmarked, Tarkowski somehow doesn't get a better contact on it. Roberts and Mcneil allowed the cross.

Tough day, when we were well beaten by a better and more clinical side but will still be a kicking ourselves that with a little more composure the first half might have been a different story entirely.

Pope - 6 - one decent save and swept up OK, on another day he'd have fancied himself to do more with at least one of the goals but you couldn't say he was culpable.

Roberts - 5 - a little exposed for a couple of the goals and only ok in possession.

Collins - 6 - looks increasingly composed on the ball but Villa played on his positioning when running in behind.

Tarkowski- 7 - pretty sound first half but we can only hope the injury is not serious.

Taylor - 5 - should have done better for the third goal and generally one who lost his head a bit in the second half after a respectable first.

Cork - 5 - not as efficient in possession as he has been and bullied a bit at times.

Brownhill- 6 - harried well and more effective in and out of possession than Cork, even if he went missing for 20 minutes after it went to 3-0.

McNeil - 7 - superb in possession, with the exception of his fluffed one on one at the end of the first half (albeit that was all his own creation). But too slow to switch onto the runners for the second and third goals.

Lennon - 5 - plenty of effort but absolutely no product.

Weghorst- 5 - tidy enough when we got decent ball into him but rarely able to buy us a breather when we were under pressure and weren't so constructive. Should have done better with his two first half chances.

Barnes - 5 - worked hard, the odd neat touch but not really effective.

Long- 5 - looked decidedly uncomfortable on the left of the 2 centre halves and we missed Tarkowski's leadership.

Cornet - 6 - lively and took his goals well.

Pieters - added some much needed stability.

Firstly - this is not over as a result of this result. After a tough game at Spurs, we play Villa again, and I saw enough today to suggest that with a little bit of luck we can get at them - particularly in the first half, we got at them today and they looked fallible defensively and at times we were able to gain parity in midfield too. But Villa’s front 3 were clinical at their pace caused the higher line we’ve been playing recently a bit of a problem, particularly on those occasions when we failed to put pressure on their midfield - they particularly targeted the right hand side of our back 4 (not the first team to do so recently, which is simply a function of the fact it is very inexperienced). The second goal was a hammer blow and realistically killed the game, and Tarkowski’s injury put the tin hat on things. We’ve got to hope that injury isn’t too serious and then regroup and go again. There’s a bit of football to be played yet.

Pope 7
Roberts 4
Collins 5
Tarky 7
Taylor 4 - Full backs both offered very little today.
McNeil 6 - Minus 1 for shooting rather than trying to set a team mate up with the chance just before half time (though I’ve not seen it back)
Brownhill 6
Cork 6
Lennon 5
Weghorst 3 - Absolutely hopeless. He’s a horrendous ‘striker’ and slower than John Gayle.
Barnes 6 - Battled hard and showed a good touch at times, but no threat.

Long/Cornet - N/A but apparently Cornet scored, good on him.

Find it difficult to be too harsh to the lads - they literally are down to last men standing. Bodies needed back and quick

Pope - 6 - no chance with any of the goals

Roberts - 6
Tarkowski - 7 - be a disaster if out for any length of time
Collins - 6
Taylor - 4 - looked way off today but not helped out by his left sided wide man

McNeil - 7*
Cork - 6
Brownhill - 6
Lennon - 3

Weghorst - 5
Barnes - 5

Long - 5
Pieters - 6
Cornet - 6

What an absolutely dreadful time to throw in an utterly awful performance. It sums up why we'll go down unfortunately because although we can show up and perform on occasions, we can't do it often enough to get past average, also rans like Villa. Defensively we were really poor and offensively we created almost nothing. I'm back to sleeping soundly tonight knowing we'll certainly be relegated because tbh we deserve to be. No complaints!

Pope 6 - Maybe could've done better on 2nd goal
Roberts 4 - Constantly exposed and decided to stick his hand up for offside instead of busting a gut to get back in.
Collins 5 - Beaten too easy at times by Watkins, 1st goal needs to be tighter.
Tarky 6 - On his own at times. If that is a serious injury then he had a big decision to make.
Taylor 4 - Looked knackered.
Brownhill 4 - Worked hard but outclassed and out thought throughout. Got to keep the ball better.
Cork 4 - Weak and couldn't cope with their diamond
McNeil 5 - Tried to get us forward. Switched off for 2nd and let Digne run off him.
Lennon 3 - Forgot he actually played.
Barnes 4 - Did what he does. Can't play with Weghorst but needs must today
Weghorst 3 - Offered absolutely nothing. Can't hold the ball, can't head it, no pace, no strength. You can't doubt his workload but bloody hell.

Long 5 - Kev Long isn't it
Cornet 6 - Runs in behind made a difference, nice finish.
Pieters 6 - Did OK.

Pope 5
Roberts 5
Collins 5
Tarkowski 6 seem to lose all idea when he went off
Taylor 5
Lennon 4
Brownhill 5
Cork 6
McNeil 7 mom great first half
Barnes 4
Weghorst 4 never thought he’d score many. Needs to much time, can’t head, no pace. Didn’t even look like a striker today. Not what we needed.

Long 5
Pieters 6
Cornet 7

They were fortunate to be 2 ahead at half time but we offered nothing in the 2nd half. If we could have swapped our front 2 for theirs would have been a different story. Looking over our shoulders again and unfortunately have to play this lot again. Not looking good.

Pope 6 didn't do a lot wrong
Roberts 6 our only threat came down the right but not his best game
Taylor 4 as bad as I've seen him probably, lucky not to give a goal away from the back pass header and only got away with it cos the header was so bad
Tarkowski 6 nervously awaiting news of the injury and he walked off ok so hoping for the best
Collins 6 not as assured as he has been of late but did ok
Brownhill 5 thought the central midfielders were alarmingly anonymous
Cork 5 as above
Mcneil 6 only real threat and looked back to form (shooting aside) though I thought he did little second half. Heads can drop at 3 nil.
Lennon 4 I commented on the match thread his pace is still an asset but this only applies if balls are played in behind the full backs and he's on the correct wing. Mcneil tries to make something happen by taking men on but lennon will simply lay it off to Taylor or infield every time. Waste of a shirt playing him on the left.
Barnes 4 he's not really capable of a higher mark these days and my heart sank a little when I saw the team sheet
Weghorst 4 I'm feeling generous. Come on, he's a dud.
Long 5
Pieters 5
Cornet 6 not his biggest fan but he's needed for that x factor more than ever.

I hadn't heard about Vydras injury and when I saw the front two it really sapped my confidence before a ball was kicked. I thought we did ok first half but Villa took the chances that Southampton, Wolves and to a lesser extent Watford didn't. Glad Cornet had a run out to get his fitness up cos we're gonna need him playing 90 minutes in the last 3 games. Logically, Leeds could well lose their remaining 4. Their best chance at 3 points is Brighton who are no mugs on the road. But my heart is telling me they'll pull something out of the hat and we'll have to do something similar if we are to finish above them.

Understandably low marks for Lennon, but to be fair he was played on the wrong wing throughout. Not only is he a right winger but he also provides better defensive cover down that flank than McNeil.
2-0 down at HT, and needing goals, surely we should have tried Lennon on his natural side, Cornet on the left and McNeil playing in the middle alongside either Barnes or Weghorst???

Pope 6
Roberts 5
Tarks 5
Collins 5
Taylor 5
McNeil 7 thought he did well first half. Probably our only remote threat.
Brownhill 5
Cork 5
Lennon 3 if possible I would of marked lower
Weghorst 3 same as Lennon. Starting to think this might be pound for pound some of our worst ever transfer business.
Barnes 4

When I heard no Rodriguez or Vydra I new it was going to end in tears, we were dreadful, especially in defence 1st half and 2nd half was abysmal

From tv
When I saw Lennon and Barnes up front I feared for the worst: these are the type of players we need to get rid of.
Pope 6
Roberts 6
Collins 6
Tarks 7
Taylor 5
McNeil 7
Cork 7
Brownhill 5
Lennon 3
Weghorst 5
Barnes 4

Long 6
Cornet 7
Pieters 5

Let's hope Tarks isn't badly injured. Let's hope we don't have to watch Lennon and Barnes again.

Wouldn't risk him next weekend tbh, I'd get him right gor Villa and Newcastle, that's if he makes villa, a tear in the hamstring can take a while or get worse at anytime

Poor stuff three dreadful goals to concede especially the 2nd when McNeil stood and watched their full back run round the back of him.

Poor management when they learned Vydra was out maybe a change of formation was in order but instead they went with the same 442.

Thought we were ok in the first half, McNeil has to score and Weghorst probably should have

But Tarks getting injured, and some iffy displays from too many players made the 2nd half a massive chore

Still possible to survive, but not if we play like that

Today highlighted just how poor, pedestrian and lacking any creativity our midfield are. We simply could not with their movement and coupled with the back 4 adopting an 'after you sir' style of defending it was no v surprise to find ourselves 3 goals down in less than an hour.

Still only Son the plodder up next. You know, the one who picked the ball up on the edge of his own area and ran 3/4 the length of the pitch past half our team to score unchallenged next. And probably the best no 10 in Eutope currently.

I thought Wolves were a better side than Villa, where we played really well, what happened ?
Villa made us look so poor.

Felt today's game was a glowing reminder of how our season has gone. We weren't too bad first half but shot ourselves in the foot with some lapse defending and were punished. Game over at 2-0, especially when Tarkowski got injured. Villa put in a solid, professional away performance.

Weirdly just sensed that game as soon as I saw the line up.

Actually thought we gave a reasonable account of ourselves first half but it was fully game over at 3-0 and the players knew it.

Pope- 6. Nearly a 5. Should he have saved the 2nd?
Roberts- 5. He looks naive at times
Tarks- 7. Not really at fault. Looked solid and appreciated the shoulder barge on their little irritant
Collins- 5. Not up to the standards he has shown.
Taylor- 5. Lacks discipline at times
Lennon- 4. Really really poor today
Brownhill- 6. Huffed and puffed.
Cork- 6. As above. You can’t fault effort
Dwight- 7 mom. First half really ran at them. Looked a threat just the end product … crossing and shooting wasn’t quite there. Could see him finding his shooting boots and having a little hot run… but it is a long time without a goal now.
Barnes- 5. One half of a strikeforce that looked a long way of premier league.
Weghorst- 4. On the whole I’ve appreciated his effort but today was a complete shocker tbh.

Long- 5. We’re comparing him to tarks, mee and Collins. He’s just nowhere near in reality
Pieters 6- needs some credit for looking really arsed when some others heads and hearts had gone
Cornet- 6. Decent finish and hopefully the silver lining from today is a confidence boost for him.

Understandably low marks for Lennon, but to be fair he was played on the wrong wing throughout.
Wrong division.

Pope 6 - Not much to do, decent stop vs Cash, did nowt with the goals
Roberts 5 - Powerful runner but is always the target wing for our opponents, doesn't stop the cross enough
Collins 6 - Not his best game of late, but moved the ball well and is confident
Tarks 6 - As Collins
Taylor 5 - Didn't have it in him to bomb on, lost Watkins for the third
McNeil 6 - Looked likely in the 1st, nothing in the second
Cork 5 - Was badly exposed by their diamond
Brownhill 6 - Some great moments in the 1st half but overun
Lennon 4 - Anonymous sadly
Barnes 3 - The team has moved on. Deffo would make a great pro for a direct championship outfit (hopefully not us)
Wout 4 - As bad as he's been in claret & blue. Didn't have his usual effort
Long 5 - Similar to Barnes really, but cannot blame him at all for that
Cornet 7* - Plus one for the goal really

Tarkowski - 6

Weghorst - 4

Long - 5
Cornet - 6
Pieters - 6

They were far more clinical than us today. Forward line never looked like working and how Lennon saw that many minutes is beyond me. Cornet has to start, for all his faults - at least he has spark and gets us up the pitch. Wout needs to be bringing more to the table and Barnes is just such hard work. Not a clue what was up with Taylor today, looked well off it. Desperately need Tarkowski back. Big setback.
