Vydra injury.

Post by Bfc » Sat May 07, 2022 6:17 pm

I hear he played for 80 mins at Watford with an ACL injury and will be out around 9 months. If that's the case, I can't see him being offered a new contract. I hope the injury is not true.

I’d be very surprised if Vydra managed 80mins with an ACL injury

As someone who has had an ACL injury, there is absolutely no chance you could play on it for 75/80 minutes. Mine gave way repeatedly (once/twice a day) whilst waiting for my surgery (granted, I way probably two Matej Vydra’s!!!!).

If it was an ACL then why did it not come up in the press conference when Jackson gave an update on injuries

ACL doesn't automatically mean ruptured which we know is a very serious injury.

Can understand them not wanting to alert Villa to an injury but he did sustain it at Watford and I believe it is an ACL.

Gutted for him then.

Do you know if we’d offered him a new contract?

I’m 4 months post acl reconstruction and I don’t recall him going down in a crumpled heap. Hopefully it’s just a minor tear.

Wow, that’s terrible news for him going into a summer without a club. I’m amazed by that considering the agony I was in on mine, but I guess there must be levels of severity and he may not have known what he had done at the time.

Has this been officially confirmed anywhere - he didn’t look in any discomfort today kicking the ball about at half time…

Sure as well Marney a few years ago did a ACL injury and when he got it he wanted to come back on the pitch not know how serious it was.

He was fully track suited up, obviously not playing as injured, but can’t see it being ACL with the way he was walking fine and also passed a ball a couple of times as he walked back to the dug out alongside JBG

Hopefully then a medial ligament strain or something and a weeks rest may get him a place on the bench at spurs, then back near the starting 11 for the crucial Villa/ Newcastle games.

Might have to stick Cornet up front again as an emergency measure, just as he was hitting top form, shite news.

I have had a high grade sprain of my ACL since a footballing injury last October. Accepted I am far from elite level at 39. The MRI shows the ligament hanging around the knee like a bust elastic band. I can walk and jog but can't kick a ball through laces. MSK have said it falls short of an op with a 12 month rehab following surgery. ACL injuries are horrible.

Ruptured cruciate ligament. Out for 6 to 9 months. Last we see of Vydra.

He wasn't walking around the pitch with JBG yesterday like a bloke with a ruptured cruciate ligament 🤔

I don't know the facts as whether or not it is true but would he be sat in the stand with Jay if he'd ruptured his knee?

It is sometimes possible to play with a torn cruciate, I play in a sports team with an older guy who doesn’t have any in each knee. But it is risky for people in good health as it can lead to long term problems. I seem to recall Tiger Woods won a golf major while unknowingly having a torn ACL and a double stress fracture of his tibia.

Let’s be optimistic, if Vydra’s efforts against Watford keep us up, we should revere him for those guts while having a serious injury, and best wishes to him in getting fit and for the future.

Well that obviously a big blow to us but more importantly to him as he enters his 30's.

We need to get Jay back 100% fit for the final three games.

Not great. Think we need to look at Cornet up top now. It’s not ideal, but we need somebody up there with a bit more dynamism. Weghorst and Barnes yesterday was painful.

First, gutted for him and us as he was looking like someone who could change things when it wasn't going well in the remaining games

Second, we can't afford to keep players on injuries that put them out for six months when they are out of contract

So that will be the last time we see him in a Burnley shirt and I wish him look for the future

But the injuries really are happening at the wrong time

Gutted for us and Vydra. Always thought he offers a lot to our side when given a run and recently he proved that. 2 assist and 1 goal in his past few appearances, all decisive contributions in the respective matches too.

That's a shocker of an injury whenever you get it, even more so when you're out of contract. It's a shame, because we always looked better with him in the team.

It’s sad for him personally and I wouldn’t want to be in his position but this is what can happen not signing a new contract (assuming we’ve offered one) and waiting for a bumper pay deal on a bosman.

Put in our terms would you leave a job without another job to go to?

Gutted. I have always thought we looked a better side with him up front. Although, as others have said, seems strange to see him at the game, walking unaided, with such an injury.

Not sure if we’ve offered him a new contract but hope we do the right thing now & offer him one and obviously sorting his rehabilitation either way.

I hope he recovers quick and I also hope he stays with us too

No room for sentiment for me, especially facing the financial situation we could be looking at.

We can't afford to be offering a player a 2 year deal, knowing he's going to be injured for the best part of half of it, whatever league we end up playing in.

Even more so if we're in the Championship if the debt repayment figures are to be believed.

By all means give hime the best medical care, re hab etc but I'm afaid his contract gamble may have backfired.

I like Vyds, and would have liked him to stay as he offers something different, but sadly this changes all that for me.

It goes without saying of course, I wish him a full and speedy recovery.

What if the deal is a vastly reduced one with increases linked to appearances?, especially if we go down.
