It is horribly disloyal and cynical of me to ponder whether this is out of contract players becoming overly protective of themselves.

Unless they have some pre-nups signed it's a very risky period for them career wise.
It would be horribly unobservant to look at Tarky's play since Mee was injured, and think he is protecting himself.

Especially given his last minute cross country drive to play vs Watford

Yes, but think about it as a human and professional. You are weeks away from a new multi million pound contract with the potential of an injury that could disrupt his plans or indeed end his career potentially in an out of contract situation.

It would bother me, but perhaps Tarks and others are more noble than I am.

I pray Ben will be fit and would go with this team

Pope
Roberts Collins Mee Taylor
Brownhill Cork Pieters
McNeil VW Cornet

I am assuming Jay is still unfit. We would never have gone 433 with SD but MJ might. Pieters I think would be a big plus in the midfield-I would not risk him at CH as some are suggesting. I would ask both full marks to focus on defending rather than pushing up. If Mee cannot be fit then obviously Long in his place

if we've got to go without both Mee and Tarks for any remaining game, it's got to be Spurs, so if either of them aren't fit but might be for Villa, then they have to sit it out.

Bad news, but if that's where we are I'd be sorely tempted to stick either Bardsley or Pieters in as a makeshift centre back. Apart from the fact that Long may not be good enough, there are two reasons: firstly leadership/communication (they're both talkers), and secondly, it was very obvious against Villa when Long came on that he's really not happy as a left sided centre back (I was surprised Collins didn't move across given I thought he'd played on the left a bit for Stoke, but it was telling that he didn't despite Long having always played on the right for us previously). Pieters isn't a natural in that position but I'm sure he's played there in his career and he reads the game well enough.

Equally, experience presents another reason why we might shuffle at right back and play Lowton.

Further forwards - if Jay isn't fit then I think I'd play Cornet wide on the left, McNeil off Weghorst and Lennon wide right. McNeil and Cornet can swap a bit, but we've seen in recent weeks why McNeil is a bit wasted on the right.

Would you be not be tempted with a back 3 of Collins Long Taylor. Pieters and Roberst wing backs. Cork and Brownhill in midfield with McNeil and Cornet running off Weghurst. I have the same concerns as you with Long on the left side with Collins and that was my way round it.

No because it's a completely new system and we haven't time to learn it. Simple as that.

If Long isn't good enough he shouldn't be at the club.
There was a thread a while back debating Long. Some praised his loyalty for staying at the club where others doubted his ambition and thought he'd wasted his career warming the bench.
If he can't get in the team when there's no other recognised centre halfs available he should be embarrassed taking a wage.

I agree that a back five is a step too far to change at this point in the season.

I think it’s a case of stopping the play getting to the strikers so I would play 5 in midfield (easier to adapt to), one holding to sit in the lines and cut out balls played in - so more a 4-1-4-1 with a very narrow midfield four when we don’t have the ball.

Then it’s a case of game management from minute 0 to frustrate and hope to nick something.

If the out of contract thing was not an issue before Vydra, if it isn't now it certainly should be for all the players in that situation. None of them owe BFC anything. The club has clearly decided not to offer contracts for the financial reasons we all know about now. Reap what you sow etc. They haven't resigned Benn Mee ffs.

Straight red for a bad tackle, so should be 3 game ban I'd imagine, big blow for Leeds, and so rash from an experienced pro, you could understand a rookie making a poor decision, but he's supposed to be one of their calmer heads,
I found this quite ironic as in the two previous matches I’d seen him,CP & ManC, he could(should?) have been double yellowed. Refs were very lenient towards him.
It has been clear over the last 6 weeks that refs are letting an awful lot more go on than early season. Cards staying firmly in pocket.

We have been very lucky, so far, that our players have given their all, without a contract at the end of it all.

Just watched that - thanks for mentioning.

Assume you’re referring to JRod or Tarks - both of which are unbelievable boosts. No sign of Vyds or Cornet though :(

Edit - sorry thought this was the Vydra thread :?

Those who will be OOC have had 6 months to sort out new deals.
I wonder how many have had decent offers

Vydra has done his ACL. Not likely to be seen running for a few months.

Cornet usually reappears ok.

I’d imagine the difference in what they can offer between PL and Championship contracts is significant. I’d expect a flurry of movement at the end of May.

Got to be honest, I think its very weird given out contracts when we don't know what division we will be in

I was very surprised that Jay got an offer and even more surprised he signed it

Vydra definitely on the training video at 00:20… either an old clip or he’s joining in the light work..

A massive boost to see Jay and Tarks joining in what looked to be the main session.

Correct, I can see the 27 actually. Worried now that it’s an old clip and Tarks isn’t actually fit :(

No Cornet so possibly taken during his rehab?

Jack Cork has also played CB at a couple of his past clubs. Not sure I’d want him there up against say Mitrovic but I can’t see him getting a physical battering against Kane and Son.

I think Long may have a better time against faster players, he's not as slow as Tarkowski or Mee. It's more his tendency to be positioned wrong or a lapse in concentration that let's him down.

To be fair to him, both Tarkowski and especially Mee are guilty of that too sometimes and they are about as slow as you get.

Speaking of slow, Cork isn't a speedster either, can see him in an anchor man role but not one of two centre backs. Rather play Long.

If Long and Stephens are playing, I’d rest any other maybes (Cornet for example) to save them for the last two. I cannot see a way we take a point back from Spurs with those two playing (or, rather, with Cork and Tarky not playing).

Well, we knew injuries would be an issue sadly

I'd actually be starting to fancy us to pull the miracle off here if it weren't for our ever growing list of injuries. Cork may or may not be resting from training this week as a precaution because let's face it, he's not getting any younger, but if all of Jay, Mee, Tarks, Cork and Vydra aren't fit, we're going to struggle to get over the line, even allowing for Leeds having injuries and suspensions of their own. Tarks and Mee are the two most telling ones as we'll never keep a clean sheet with Long in defence. Seriously fed up.

If Cork is out I'd play Pieters at LCM - consider Lowton at RB and push Roberts further forward

Alternatively play McNeil in a central role behind Weghorst - assuming Max is fit to start on the left

Hoping to see one or both of Helm and Gomez-Mancini on the bench

I think if we have players fit... they play

the question is - do we have enough players fit...?

Weghorst
McNeil
Pieters - Stephens - Brownhill - Roberts
Taylor - Long - Collins - Lowton
Pope

Try for 0-0. Lennon and Barnes as the only experienced subs, unless I've missed a player somewhere.

{edit} I think that's what Earby Claret said!

We did and I think it will all come down the the Newcastle game because I fancy Leeds getting a point from their last 2.

Having a good run comes with pressures of its own. We've gone from "down and out" almost free from the constant grind of pressure to being in a situation where we are the masters of our own destiny.

No he is not

And we are screwed if Cork is out too. What an absolute nightmare.
Its fast becoming more than a miracle, even allowing for Leeds recent poor results. Sadly Stephens does not strike me as being someone willing to fight for us.Jackson will need his thinking cap on and maybe play both Pieters and Roberts further up the pitch than they are used to

I would go Pieters for Long, McNiel left, weghorst in the hole, Cornet up top on the last man’s shoulder.

I think I'd go with that - that still gives you Lennon, Cornet, Barnes and Bardsley as back-up

So much depends on what happens in the Spurs game tonight
