Recommendations for picking up 2 German friends this Thursday at 5 p.m. please. They are coming over to support Burnley v Newcastle. They have no hold luggage so should they be able to get through customs on time ?

Unfortunately your best bet is to just pay, it’s almost impossible to get away with out paying now and not worth the hassle

Which car park? You can normally book the popular car parks right up to the time you want to enter, it just gets more expensive

Flown out and back of T1 three times in the last 2 months at varying times. It's a bit slower than usual that's all. If you get there when check in opens you should be fine.

Fast track currently unavailable online. I am flying next Sat 6am thinking of dropping bags evening before, something Tui is offering.
Hoping it will be made available by June.

I travelled on Thursday, arrived about 3 hours early. Breezed through and Security was ok - just the usual really , people packing liquids and deodorant in their carry-ons holding things up.

Probably not helped by click chasers like Lancs Live repeating the same ‘chaos at Manchester Airport’ story seemingly every couple of days or so, regardless of the reality of the situation.

Leeds Bradford no better. Flight 16:00 on 23 /5. Check in queue for hall A snaking from hall A into hall B( jet2 area). Took 75 mins to get through security. Then nowhere to sit and relax. It was choka- people sitting on floors. Stood for 70 mins and relieved to just to be able to sit on plane when eventually boarded.

We used to be looked up to as a competent country where things like this were highly organised. Now we plod along in chaos. No doubt the pandemic will be the 'go to' excuse for the next decade when it comes to failure of management and planning.

It's shocking how Manchester and Bradford can get it so wrong. Especially, Manchester - the UK's fourth-biggest airport.

Terminal 3 was an absolute joke last Wednesday. Absolutely rammed. I hate terminal 3 at the best of times but it was just packed with Rangers fans going to Seville. I queued an hour for a beer and a bacon sarnie.

Going through T2 in a few weeks, I’ve always found that one to be much much better personally.

Flew out from T3 Monday evening and arrived painfully early, with fast track so got through pretty easily although you could tell the security staff were stretched thin.

T3 is, frankly an antiquated s**thole. I paid through the nose to get in the lounge, and it was worth it due to how early i'd arrived. If you are going through T3, book fast track (you may need to book it via the airlines own app as manc airport isnt selling it i believe), and if you can stretch to it, pre-book the lounge.

Landed back into T2 today and it was a shambles. There was nobody to activate the air bridge and nobody to put the blocks on the plane wheels, so we had to sit on the tarmac for half an hour.

Then, once in, we waited ages by an empty carousel whilst the one next to us began churning bags out, yet with nobody waiting for bags there. Turned out the passengers of that plane had landed at 06:30 and it was now 13:30 so they'd given up and gone home.

I asked a member of staff (took an hour to see anyone) if we could do the same and have our luggage sent to us, but I was told that would only become an option after 3 hours. With two tired and hungry young kids with us, we had to raid the vending machine (no shops are accessible in baggage reclaim) and sit on the floor until the 3 hours was up, when they finally let us join a queue to get the forms.

It's clear the airport is massively understaffed and they really need to temporarily close a terminal, or something. The poor ones who are there seem to be doing 2 or 3 jobs at the same time.

If I go to an airport I expect delays. If there aren’t any great. If you are not prepared for delays and have kids with you I’ve not a lot of sympathy.

I'm sorry, you're absolutely right. We should have supplied our 2 and 4 year olds with caffeine to prevent them from being tired after being up since 5am, or arranged for a magic show at the baggage carousel to stop them kicking off from boredom during the extra 3 hours. Or asked Just Eat if they'd deliver to baggage reclaim, or maybe started up my own food shop using the few ingredients I should have packed into my hand luggage? Or just snuck a smeg fridge on as hand luggage?

Happy to hear your suggestions, cheers.

A little unfair Boss Hogg, especially with them having very young children.Under the term “normal times” perhaps but currently Manchester is suffering with a real shortage of staff and that’s causing no end of problems.

Exactly. And we had prepared for delays in departures, at check-in and security (where we'd also have access to shops too). But this experience at baggage reclaim is a new problem that has only surfaced recently.

The MEN are reporting on it now: https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk ... 2mmb_my48c

Put simply, people who used to do the jobs at the airport found better jobs that they didnt need to trek all the way to the airport for.

The other issue is new jobs in the airport can take months to go through because of all the security checks. Some can’t be arsed waiting months and need money now so go elsewhere. So it’s a very slow process.

The airports gambled on this summer and failed to plan. The gamble has not paid off.

Great idea. They did it for Covid testing. 👍
