What was the point in staying over when you were up at 3am?
Seriously?
To avoid getting up even earlier.
For all you know I may have traveled 3 hrs to the airport?

Good hr way. My family staying at the airport is not the point of this, we have our own reasons for that.
The tread is for people to see "real" stories of local travelers and not just the really bad experiences that are seen on fb or in the news of bad experience.
My point was get fast track if available, get extra hand luggage if possible, get a airport lounge if you can.

Went through T2 this afternoon. Arrived at 13:00. Was in duty free by 13:20. Flight not until 17:10, so currently in the boozer.

The bizarre thing when I flew out of Manchester about 5 weeks ago, the security queue was massive, well over an hour wait, but they were making everyone repack their clear toiletry bag into one of theirs.
If you had a bigger clear bag than the one they were giving out, you had to re pack, well it was just chaos. Then the machine wasn’t scanning so bags were getting rejected.
No idea why they would do that, I have never seen that done anywhere in the world, but it didn’t help.
Going from there again 7am on Tuesday hoping it’s not the same.

I've seen 2 different people share on SM, it took over 2 hours to get through passport control on their way back in to Manchester.
It's letting the country down.

There was an airport employee walking up and down the line reminding people to take electronics out of hand luggage, put liquids in a clear bag etc and yet when I got to the security point people still had laptops in their bags and then spent 5 minutes looking for the rest of their electricals in their carry on cases. Some folk couldn't understand the ruling of putting your electricals and liquids in a seperate tray to your hand luggage.

Passport control was easy this morning, issue was we landed 10 mins early and then waited 40mins to be let off the plane.
New staff in security in T1 on Tuesday had taken slow to a new level, only 1 person could pack their things into trays at a time. Apparently the liquid bag that I have used for my last 10 flights out of Manchester and in other countries was no longer acceptable due to a new rule change that he had invented.
It’s shocking.
I was in Helsinki airport this morning, no need to unpack your hand luggage it all just goes through and the scanner does it’s job. Took 5 minutes.

Exactly... If everyone turned up correctly you'd probably only need two stations, yet its the staff and the airport that always get the blame for large queues not the complete morons who turn up as you've described, it's like they've never flown before, it's a real pet hate of mine.

I had to drop bags with Jet2 on Friday afternoon. Took 5 minutes tops. Plenty of people there, but the staff were excellent organising everyone (which is like herding cats) and the machines for printing off your labels are dead easy to use.
Security took 10/15 minutes to clear.

We flew out 3 weeks ago (first Sunday of the school holidays). 9am flight. I had done the twighlight bag drop so we were straight to security. We had fast track and it took us 45mins to get through. The line for security (non fast track) was all the way out the door and back on itself, but it moved and they just called out flights that were near to boarding time and took them to the front of the fast track line (partly why it too is as long as it did in the fast track). I didn’t think it was too bad and it was fairly quiet round the restaurants. Coming back was bigger pain as we had to q on the side of the runway because too many plains landed at a similar time (that took 90mins).

Thanks for that. We are more than likely doing the bag drop the day before. Not flying jet2 though (TUI) so hopefully they are equally as quick

I keep contemplating the twilight bag drop , but we are with Tui also, and considering the amount of flights they do, it just feels like something else that could go wrong, and you luggage ending up in another country with it being their days before you fly.

Not an early flight, but flew to Alicante on 6th July on a 4.30 afternoon flight and had to stand in
a queue for security for an hour, only two security stations open. They might have increased
those by now.
Also went with Jet2 and they're excellent, couldn't do enough for you.
Hope this helps.

It’s a worry for me too but the wife wants to do it. It would be very high risk for me to disagree- at least if it goes wrong, she can’t blame me. Can she?

Flew out of Leeds on Thursday afternoon, no bag but through in 10 minutes - know that's not exactly your time Halifax. Don't think fast track was open and they were using both lanes and it was moving, easy to get a drink/food inside.
Came back Sunday around 11pm, passport control was quick.

Went from East Midlands a couple of weeks ago, and as anyone who uses it will know, it’s easier than catching a bus. Literally no queues, nice relaxed vibe.
We were expecting a bit of passport / Brexit chaos in Greece but got through quicker than ever there too. All of this with Ryanair too. Maybe just got lucky but no complaints at all about their service either.
Overall, fantastic to be abroad with the family again, really missed that.

T2 was a breeze this morning at 3.30, took about 20mins.
Long queues at the bars and restaurants, but that should settle down as more places open. Still the challenge of people coming really early preparing for the worst ( me included)

Went though terminal 3 last night, been dreading it as Manchester airport is terrible at the best of times but it was ok.
As someone said announce, the queue for the bar took as long h as chec in and security.
Flew into Alicante, landed and out of the door there within 20 mins.

Just back from 2 weeks in Madeira via Manchester T1 - Jet 2. Early morning flight out was OK - airport was busy but got through checkin and security in about an hour. Limited seating and long queues for coffee in departures. Landed back in Manchester 4pm'ish but had to sit on the plane for an hour because they had no qualified ground crew to bring the steps..... purchased fast track tickets for passport control which was well worth it. Suitcases had already done 10 laps of the carousel when we got there - collected all 3 (none missing). Car parked in T1 meet and greet - M62 home to York.
An easier experience than I was expecting..... Heard lots of praise for Jet2 and lots slagging off TUI which was evident at Funchal airport with the size of the checkin queues.

One thing to note about Ryanair planes, is they tend to have their own stairs built into the plane body so they aren't quite as dependent on ground crew half as much as Easyjet / Jet2 and the like

Agreed based on my recent experience.
Flew out of Manchester to Crete, 5 minutes for bag drop, very easy. 20 Minutes thru security.
On return, touched down at 12.45, home via taxi to Didsbury, opened front door at 1.20

My understanding is that you only need one me of you aren’t fully vaccinated and therefore don’t have a covidnpass.
Me and wife both vaccinated, didn’t need one.
Two kids not vaccinated so needed a negative antigen test 24 hours before flight and a PLF filling in.
Wasn’t as onerous as last October as didn’t seek addresses where staying etc, just region and flight number.

Cheers. Jet2 are always the best of the budget airlines.
Got to disagree there.
Jet 2 have the nicer planes but Ryanair are far cheaper and reliable. When Ryanair fly somewhere they go directly to that destination unlike Jet 2 who through covid were going to Fuertaventura via Lanzarote adding a couple of hours to your Lanzarote journey and not pre warning passengers
Jet 2 cancelled lots of flights during covid were Ryanair kept all theres running.
Another hang up with Jet 2 is that their flights are filled with families with screaming kids and babies.
Flown both and Ryanair is the best budget airline in the sky

They are until you have a problem with them.

Flown with them between 40 and 50 times over the last 5 years and never had a problem with them.
Another thing I like about Ryanair is that there flight times are early morning were Jet 2 are mainly pm

It's better to travel hopefully than to arrive. I take it you do not know the answer to my question.
Arrived in Ibiza on Friday night and had to show vaccination record, albeit just a quick flash of the screen on my phone.
Couple of lads in front didn't have them and they were just ushered through

I was denied boarding at Nantes airport as Ryanairs agent/ticket collecter did not know the covid situation re entering the UK
Ryanair have avoided the truth and blamed everyone bar themselves.
My problem with Ryanair was in February and will conclude in the County Court next month.
As a budget airline they are as you say the best until things go wrong.
