Re: Manchester Airport
T1 Sunday morning, flight via Dublin at 8am, got there about 4.30.
Had bags to check and the check in desk area was rammed. Everything got quieter about 6.30 when all the easy jets flights moved on - if you can find a way of picking flights after 6.30 and not on EJ I think things could work well.
Dublin was pretty bad too in the terminal, cases lost in transit when we arrived in the US.
Pre Covid I could walk in at 7 and make it with ease to Dublin…

We fast tracked our Ryanair flight from Budapest to Stansted. 10mins to clear check in in Hungary
45 mins mauling about with passport control at Stanstead.

Been to Amsterdam this weekend. Flew out via Liverpool, which was an absolute doddle, no queues at security whatsoever, and we were straight through at the other end too.
The way back however... Schiphol has absolutely horrific. Arrived 4 hours early to clear security and still got to gate as they were making final boarding call. 4 hours stood in a queue after 3 nights in Amsterdam on a stag do was not the living the dream.

Strange that, I must have been through Schiphol at least 25 times in the last 5 years and I’ve never waited more than 10 minutes to get through security.
Re: Manchester Airport
Pre-Covid, it was a superb airport, but it's apparently gone completely pear shaped recently.claret2018 wrote: ↑Tue Jul 12, 2022 7:48 amStrange that, I must have been through Schiphol at least 25 times in the last 5 years and I’ve never waited more than 10 minutes to get through security.
This was the queue to get into the terminal, then there was another 3 or so hours after this.

Re: Manchester Airport
We flew out here to Cyprus last Tuesday at 07:05 in the morning from terminal 2 at Manchester.
Firstly the meet and greet parking at terminal 2,is excellent and totally stress free. We then proceeded to the TUI desks to put our cases in, this alone took an hour. One of the problems was, people with these “invisible disability” lanyards were being fast tracked to the front therefore the queue moved very slowly. There were lots of them and they usually had half a dozen family members going through with them. I watched one party go through with the magic lanyard and after they had checked their cases in they were laughing and giggling as they walked away and the lanyard wearers wife said to him gleefully “it worked”. Now before people start jumping down my throat for saying this, there were an unusually high number of people with these lanyards on. Perhaps they bought them off Amazon? Also the porters with the airport wheelchairs were run off their feet transporting people with “mobility issues” to the check in desks with their extended families following closely behind. I’m not doubting that some were genuinely in need of assistance but at times like this some people will always try to beat the queueing by unscrupulous means.
Once we had checked the cases in I am so glad we had bought the £5 fast track through security at the same time we booked our parking with Manchester airport because the queue to get through security was massive.,All in all it took us approx one and a half hours to be in the departure lounge thanks to the fast track.
If any of you are flying from Manchester in the coming weeks pay the fiver for fast track. It will be one of the best fivers you will spend this year.

Re: Manchester Airport
As far as wheelchair using goes, people who are perfectly of queueing for half an hour may need a wheelchair if they have to queue for three hours. Wheelchairs are used for lack of staying power as well as for actual disability, and there are loads and loads of older people (in particular) who couldn't do the standing and walking needed to get around a large airport, even though they can manage quite well getting out and about at home.Jamesy wrote: ↑Tue Jul 12, 2022 8:55 amWe flew out here to Cyprus last Tuesday at 07:05 in the morning from terminal 2 at Manchester.

Been flying between Dublin/Gatwick/Manchester recently and usually without too many major problems although we've been sat on the runway for about half an hour on a couple of occasions, shortage of cabin crew apparently. Moving through security hasn't been an issue. The departure lounge in Manchester was a ghost town, no staff to be seen, and a lack of info re gate number one time meant passengers working together to hunt down where the plane was. Fingers crossed for this weekend!

Seems to be luck of the draw at the minute then. Think I'll arrive at 4am for my 8am flight and hope for the best. Best case scenario I'm through security and having a drink by 04:30
Re: Manchester Airport
If you can get by without checking in bags and just taking hand luggage then you’ll miss the big bag drop queues and should be fine

Fly to Orlando on Saturday. We have purchased fast track through security but mixed tales that this isn’t available anymore? Surely they’ll honour if previously paid for?

Re: Manchester Airport
We went through T3 on Friday morning for a Ryanair flight and all was good it was busy but we checked our bags and through security in 30 mins
Re: Manchester Airport
I was thinking about booking it but heard the same so didn’t bother….main problem was the bag drop, security was OK (there were people doing fast track though). This was on our way out yesterday afternoon with hand luggage only.
All was great until we got on the plane and sat there for 3.5 hours due to some kind of baggage issue (a lot of others with cases weren’t happy as they hadn’t had chance to get any food etc due to the long bag drop wait).

Who’d have imagined it? queues and some delays at the busiest 2 weeks of the year ! The idea of walking straight to your plane with nothing more than a cheery good morning sir , a gin & tonic in hand and a flirtatious wink from the trolly dolly’s is ,alas not going to happen .
Re: Manchester Airport
I think it's more the idea of getting there 4 hours earlier and standing in a queue till your plane takes off without you, that's worrying people. Many people expect a reasonable or even unreasonable amount of queueing, just not to the extent of missing a plane.AlargeClaret wrote: ↑Mon Jul 25, 2022 1:18 pmWho’d have imagined it? queues and some delays at the busiest 2 weeks of the year ! Re: Manchester Airport
With all the airport issues you're probably better off driving down to Dover and going across on the Ferry. Obviously no good if you're going too far afield but for France and Spain thats probably your best option to save on the queueing and stress

Re: Manchester Airport
Flights have always been delayed, its not a new thing.
I've been through Manchester quite a bit in the past 12 months, yes sometimes the security queues are longer than normal, but they move, and tannoy announcements, and staff walking up and down the queues make sure anyone flying in the next hour are moved to the front.
This Saturday, allegedly the busiest day of the year, took 15 mins through security, at the busiest part of the day
Arrive 3 hours before your flight, know what you are allowed to take through security, and you'll be fine.

I wouldn't bank on it.
We paid for fast track when we flew out of Manchester to Krakow in April with Ryanair and the fast track lane was closed off "on airport management instructions"

We went through terminal last Tuesday. Absolute nightmare, 2 hours of pure pain at 4 in the morning. Cattle market all the way through to the lounges which were that busy we didn't even get a drink.
Re: Manchester Airport
Currently at Leeds Bradford.
Security was a doddle, queue was 10 mins with speedy pass but wouldn’t have been much over 30 mins without.
19 quid for 2 pints and 2 ribena’s is the biggest scandal. Not sure how much it is for a twix but won’t be fair off longside prices

Re: Manchester Airport
I went through at 4am this morning for a 6.15 flight, the only issues people were having were self inflicted, the number of people who had left electrical goods or liquids in there carry on luggage and sent it through the scanner despite being asked several times if either were present was ridiculous. There were more people waiting post scan to have their bag inspected than there were in line for security. Dullards, the lot of em.

Happening more and more regularly. You have to take the action yourself, particularly at large airports. There's very little if any queue management (and it's not just a UK issue, but it is happening with more frequency than most places at large UK airports at present). I've had to just walk to the front of security queues (in the last 6 weeks) at Manchester, Gatwick (Transfer lane seems permanently closed, so 90 minute transfers feel a thing of the past), Heathrow - and it's the norm at Frankfurt.

No traffic on the motorway.
No ques at the car drop off
No ques for luggage drop off
No ques at security just walked straight through
No ques at the bars or shops
Full row of seats on the plane to stretch out and sleep
Been on flights with just 30 on board and 3 stewards
Luggage waiting at the other end
Nobody waiting in the taxi rank

Through T1 this morning in record time. Stayed at Premier Inn close by. 7a.m flight.
Up a 3, drop car off at met and great.
Booked extra hand luggage so not check in bags, weight not checked fast track through security. In the airport lounge by 415.
We done everything poss to make it easier and it was well worth it. No hassle. I think about £100 extra for 2 adults and a 9yr old.
Made the trip so easier I'd recommend to Nyone if you can afford it.

Re: Manchester Airport
Just in Terminal 2 for a 6am flight, security queue was huge, but it was moving pretty quickly and took about 30mins to get through.
Pretty much every food concession had at least 30+ people waiting outside and it was pretty tricky to find anywhere to sit.
The old part of the terminal is open- on the left of security once you get through (so you dodge the main terminal) and it was pretty empty (gates 201 to 210 I think) a good little hiding place if you have time on your hands and want a quiet seat.

Re: Manchester Airport
We’ve done that a couple of times. I’m sure Albo will have their own reasons but for us it gives the kids extra couple of hours sleep as you are obviously closer to the airport and don’t need the travel time. We found that made a world of difference. Our first holiday with our eldest who was two at the time was a bit of a nightmare for the first day or two as she was well out of sync after getting her up at 2am then driving to Manchester.Top Claret wrote: ↑Wed Jul 27, 2022 8:17 amWhat was the point in staying over when you were up at 3am?
