You don't have to, Lancaster raises it at every opportunity, quite tiresome really
As you correctly (imo) point out, pay a rate suited to the job and there would be no shortage of staff.
Manchester airport feel a charge of £5 for 5 minutes to drop someone off is fair, so £15 per hour to work in airport security is nothing, but would solve the current issue.

I’m all for this utopia where flights are never delayed ,cancelled and nobody has to queue when holidaying at peak times , school hols / bank hols/ Easter etc . Flying to holiday destinations is generally an irksome ballache and if you get through all sides without at least general queues at check in , baggage , passport ,security , boarding , immigration , collecting bags , taxis et al you’re bloody lucky .

I think you're getting mixed up.
I never mentioned Brexit, just pointing out why people wouldn't want to work at the airport.
If they put their wages up to a decent level then Brits will take up the jobs.
You actually quoted an post mentioning Brexit as a reason

But isn't unemployment at a record low? Yet we also have a record number of vacancies?
So if Brits are to take up these jobs, they'll most likely be leaving a job somewhere else, which will cause shortages in other sectors.
You can try moving people around as much as you like, but there is still a labour shortage (like there is in a lot of countries at the moment), and it's particularly acute here for an obvious reason.

Think we have to accept Brexit has had an impact. We simply haven't been able to bring in the numbers of staff required from overseas in order to fill the gaps quickly enough after covid.
My neighbour who was border police, left the UK in 2019 to work in Belgium. The reason cited was Brexit and he won't be returning.

i) I don't
ii) Pretending its not an issue is helping no one, including anything you do
iii) And the idea that just paying more magically solves the problem is like everything, it will help, but it won't solve it

If only you knew beforehand.
Christ on a bike. What a childish answer. Of course I knew beforehand you clown. Do you think I booked it yesterday? The holiday has been booked for months, and when we went away a few months ago there was nothing amiss with the airport. I only posted to give an idea what it was like today, as previous posts had said it wasn’t too bad. Then you get replies like yours, and another one “ do you not watch the news “. Of course we do, I was only trying to give a live update of what it was like this morning. Next time I won’t bother.

Strange that the countries we're travelling to all suffered the pandemic but have nowhere near the same problems.
Comes across as another Brexit issue hiding, once again, behind other convenient international issues.
Canada is just as bad for the exact same reasons. Toronto is having 8 hour waits this last few weeks

Had a very pleasant experience today.Flew from Gib to Man this morning.Arrived at MAN at 1:00
Sailed through Customs,no queue at all,and our bag was on the carousel only a few minutes later.
It must depend on what time of day you arrive.

Calm down , you’d have thought there’d been a pandemic for the past 2 and half years might have alerted you to the potential problems.

My Wife flew from Manchester - Malta on Wednesday in the early hours.
She said it was an absolute nightmare and ONLY just managed to board the flight !
The queue out of the terminal was hurrendous by all accounts!
We're going to Florida in October from Manchester and I am dreading it.

It’s a few hours of pain who cares? It’s not like us Brits have never stood in a long queue before!!
Once you’re are sat in your speedo’s, waves splashing around your feet, sun beaming down, beer in hand, good book in the other & the Ray Ban’s hiding where your eyes are looking, Manchester airport will be long forgotten. (For 10 days at least
)
In 2 weeks time I will join the Manchester airport madness and I can’t flipping wait!! Enjoy your holidays everyone

Just got back from Zante…. Painless going out, absolutely painless. Flight was 06:05 and everything ran smoothly.
Got back yesterday, landed 15:30, straight off the plane, straight thru passport control no issues. Waited 45 mins for the carousel and that was it, done.

I ensured I had the proof of a negative test before I arrived in New York a few weeks ago. After two hours of queueing at JFK airport, they never even checked it. They were more concerned as to why I'd dared to step foot in their country!

Went through Liverpool at around 8.30am for a 11.20am flight last week. Walked straight through to security with no wait and was in a bar within 5 minutes.... Off out of Manchester tomorrow aiming for around 5.30am for a 8.35am flight. Wonder what my chances of doing the same are.......

I was there yesterday, and the staff on the ground were asking if people were flying in the next hour, plus announcements over the tannoy..... You would have to have been deaf to miss them...

I'm sure that you can do better than that for the non holiday sandal wearers on here. Where's the drama and Britain bashing?
I think you're lying and that you got held up 10 hours through Nigel Farage following Romanians about whilst shouting..... British strawberries for British strawberry pickers!

Just back from holiday. No issues going out from Manchester, only taking 45 mins through security (AM flight) from parking the car. We had used the Twilight check-in option.
Coming back into Manchester was almost painless, other than a gap of 15 mins between one lot of luggage and the next lot onto the carousel. Likely making sure all carousels had some luggage on them so going from one to another and back. Security was around 45 mins again (PM flight). No real issues.

Flew to Ibiza yesterday from T2 with Jet2.
Got there at 2pm for my 5pm flight. Was quiet in bag drop off and security took 45 mins. There were only two security belts open but the queue kept moving and was quite painless.
Once through there was one bar open and Wagamamas so it was carnage.
Our flight was delayed until 6:45pm and then when we did eventually board we were delayed again as they needed to get four people’s bags off who were refused boarding the plane because they decided to open their duty free at the gate and start drinking it when it was announced we were delayed.

Been to Manchester Airport this morning to take my wife and son who are travelling to Jakarta, Indonesia via Doha. They were booked on Qatar Airways leaving at 14.55pm from Terminal 2.
I had a pre booked slot for the car at Terminal 2 West multi storey. We arrived at the car park at 10.55 am and parked up on Level 7. We got in to Terminal 2 Departures building at 11.00am where Qatar Airways was open for checking in and where a small queue had built.
Check in was completed at 11.25am and the wife and son then went through the security gate without any queuing.
Terminal 2 departures wasn't busy at all during the brief time that I was there this morning.
I've just checked the Terminal 2 departures for today and seen that Qatar Airways left on time for Doha.

It takes a little longer than it used to, ignore the overreactions on here, Ive been through T2 3 times during the current problems, and at peak time 4am to 8am and its OK, they won't let you miss your flight.

Reading the post about the Ibiza flight is one of the reasons why we now avoid 'party' holiday destinations. It's a shame because I know there are some lovely places to stay once you are outside the main 'hotspots'. It's just that my missus doesn't like being stuck 30,000 feet in the air with a bunch of drunken chavs kicking off.
It's bad enough if you are inside a town/city centre pub, but at least you can walk out the door. Mind you, it's refreshing to read that this time the airline didn't allow them to board. More of this, please.

Arrived back into Terminal 2 at 2:15pm today and the queue was 90 mins long for passport control. They only had 6 of the gates open and the queue moved very slowly.
I only had hand luggage so didn’t collect a bag but it was very busy at bag collection.

Pathetic isn't it. These days, we can't even get the basics right. This country really is on its arse.
What's your experience of Manchester Airport in the past 3 months?

They could be holding people back at passport control so they don’t kick off when they are waiting 2 hours for the luggage carousel to start turning.
Get some squaddies in to load and unload the luggage and charge the airport for their services.

I suspect this response is going to make Nori even more grumpy than normal

Flying from Manchester at 17:30 on Saturday, has anyone been lately? What are the queues like now when checking in and getting through security? Trying to judge what time I should get there for, would arriving at 3pm be pushing it a little?

I really don't know why more people don't fly from Liverpool.
Not many daily departures, always on time..no queues.
Rumours here on the Fylde coast is that Blackpool's airport may reopen to holiday flights in a couple of years.

Went through T2 yesterday
Got there at 11am. There was a queue at security but was moving pretty quickly and we were in the lounge by 12pm.
The biggest queues were for the restaurants

I live 7.2 miles from Manchester Airport but my next two trips booked in Nov and Dec are from Liverpool - daft as it sounds from front door to beer …. LPL will be faster.

November, December? I'm hoping this mess is a thing of the past well before then.
