Villa away game

Post by NRC » Mon May 09, 2022 11:38 am

What have we learned about them to take into this game to affect a different outcome?

Don't give the front 3 any space and man mark the nasty little one. Play Peiters in cm in a 3.

Our back four whoever they maybe need to play a bit deeper to negate the ball behind or in-between the full back and centre back (see Ings goal for this).

Maybe play a holding midfielder in front of the back 4, and yes we can open them up.

Get crosses into the box

Get Dwight on the ball

Play to Wout’s feet

Play Pieters

We learned that we spent 300m less than them in the last few years that’s for sure.

Get into em

Strangely I think we learned they are beatable. They had the luck and took their chances. I have every confidence we can win there.

Putting away our chances would be a good start.

Yeah, put Barnes on that no. 10, would have sent off in no time.

The two key things we learned :

Their defence can be opened up with craft and mobility;

Their forwards are very good.

The team we are able to put out will likely determine the result

Cometh the hour, cometh the Stephens!

4-5-1, Stephens sitting in front of the back 4 hurting whoever gets near and laying it off to Cork and Brownhill.

Would also prefer Pieters to Taylor.

We should have learnt not to fire our few chances we will get straight down their keepers throat.

I'm of the mind that we should try a new formation at spurs. New formations can take a while for players to get used to etc especially when they've only played one way for seasons. But Barnes and Wout up top just won't work unless spurs decide to throw one in like some teams seem to be doing for others. Barnes and Wout are too immobile. Wout has a decent touch and brings others in to play but will not get behind a defence so having players around him then they can get behind the defenders may help him.

You can maybe get away with one striker being immobile but not 2. 451, 4231 or 433 I think they're the main ones that could suit our players but again it takes weeks to get players in that mindset. Nothing to lose and if it works you go again at villa. 451 at villa would be better as they had midfielders spare all the time in the game at the weekend so get the more midfielders we have in there the less space they'll have. Footballs tough.

We need to stop Ings and Buendia if we are to get something. We let them run the show. Ings will score again, especially when we give him the freedom of the whole country!

If it’s craft and mobility we are looking for, we are deficient in both areas.

What a knob , that's the spirit! The craft and mobility was there to be seen in the previous 4 matches, don't let the door hit you on the way out!

Villa seem to be better away than they are at home. They’ve won 7 away but only 4 at home.

Was it? I attended the previous four matches and there wasn’t a great deal of craft and mobility in those games but lots of effort and team spirit. Just being realistic and don’t call me a knob you disrespectful two hat.

Knob is strong , maybe he missed the craft of Pieters and the mobility of Cornet for our goal because he had left early or couldn’t be bothered
