Joey Barton
Why is Joey Barton 4/5 to be the next Burnley manager? For the love of god please do not let that happen

Highly doubt he’d be on our PL managerial list. Perhaps our Championship list.claptrappers_union wrote: ↑Thu May 12, 2022 7:27 amBarton doesn’t have what it takes to be a manager in the Premier League.

Could be an excellent championship choice , he’s done well thus far , though not ready for the Prem just yet. He could be a high end manager though needs to try not to crack anyone who winds him up

I thought Joey Barton was a great player for us but for me it's imperative that the new manager has never kicked his wife in the head so I would be rather against this.

Poundshop Roy Keane who might carve out a decent managerial career in the lower leagues for himself if he manages not to self destruct. He was brilliant for us in the Championship winning season but I wouldn't want him near the club again anytime soon

He is a very intelligent chap, albeit not a great vase education. He works to make up for that.
If he could behave as he did with us under Mr D, then you never know.

Poor man’s Stan Ternent.
Would be interesting… and therefore for me it is a YES.
I think he could be very good but if he does blow he will blow quickly and decisively so no great loss.

Re: Joey Barton
I don't think the betting companies have a clue what might be happening at Burnley.
I do remember when Dyche came in, there was a period when Pat McKiernan was favourite for the job. Pat was the education officer in the academy and all the staff had put a fiver on him for a joke.
I would definitely not be reading anything into the betting odds right now.

Re: Joey Barton
Not for me no, he's done well at Bristol Rovers, but he's got far too many off field distractions that would impact on his ability to focus on the task at hand.
Surely we're sitting our standards higher then the likes of Barton, especially if we do remain a PL club.

Re: Joey Barton
Off the field issues aside and keeping to the managerial side, is he less qualified than Lampard or Rooney? I would suggest he actually has more proofs about him as to his potential as a manager than either of those two

I once said something along these lines before we signed him on as a player. I have to admit I had to eat my words because he was outstanding for us. Not sure if he could repeat this as our manager, if he is indeed amongst those considered.Devils_Advocate wrote: ↑Thu May 12, 2022 10:17 amIf we hire Joey Barton as manager I will not be getting a season ticket next season or any season he is in charge

Re: Joey Barton
He did do well with us in his stint as a player, but managing is a totally different kettle of fish, and you just know the media will be waiting for even the slightest whiff of scandal, and they'll be over him like a rash.Cirrus_Minor wrote: ↑Thu May 12, 2022 7:37 pmI once said something along these lines before we signed him on as a player. And that's before we know the outcome of his present court case, too many risks in my view to be considering Barton at this point in time, and yes he's done well to get Bristol Rovers promoted, but it's a big step up to Championship level, never mind PL level with all the media circus that entails.

There is absolutely no suggestion that the betting companies have any idea around what is happening at Burnley more that they have adjusted their odds based on bets being placed, potentially by those who do have an ideaClaretTony wrote: ↑Thu May 12, 2022 10:48 amI don't think the betting companies have a clue what might be happening at Burnley.

Did anything ever happen with the charge against the Barnsley manager? Also wasn't he done for assault with someone else recently? Whether he is a good manager or not, I am afraid he comes with to much baggage.

Re: Joey Barton
That needs balancing with he actually took Bristol Rovers down first after a disastrous season and i guess the fans didn't love him then. Consequently he must have been a whisker away from being sacked last summer, never mind in October (ish) after a very poor start to this season. Having said that I do like him and he's clearly done an amazing job since that bottoming out to get them bouncing back.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Thu May 12, 2022 10:43 pmDid more than ok at Fleetwood and has now brought Bristol Rovers back up.
Re the alleged assault on the Barnsley manager I THINK he was found not in court guilty a little while back.
PS. And maybe one for us in the future, but imo, not right now.

How is this any different to Duff? At least with Duff there is no baggage. Not sure his profile would be suited to our owners anyway. As much as he was great for us he's behind Duff in the pecking order not that I'd necessarily want Duff either

Re: Joey Barton
Probably needs balancing with the fact that he was the third manager they'd had in very little time and it took a big clear out last summer and a difficult start before it got going. Maybe a bit like us in 2015/16 although their climb has been more dramatic from close to the bottom.Dark Cloud wrote: ↑Fri May 13, 2022 1:57 pmThat needs balancing with he actually took Bristol Rovers down first after a disastrous season and i guess the fans didn't love him then. I'm not promoting him for the job - both him and Duff have done well but I believe we need someone with more experience further up the leagues.
Re: Joey Barton
Would rather have Duff than Barton. Duff has achieved more as a manager and whilst his profile is a little smaller than Joeys that's mainly because Barton is notorious.
Loved them both as players but don't want either to become our next manager.

Re: Joey Barton
Barton hasn't achieved anything in football management yet.
He got Fleetwood to the playoffs which is where they had been just a couple of seasons earlier and they were in 10th half way through the following season when he left the club
At Bristol Rovers he's just got them back to where they started. Duff has had a lot more success than Barton as will plenty of other lower league managers.
Maybe he'll be a success at Bristol but so far he's done nowt special as a manager.
When you then add in what a complete knob he is then I'd be amazed if anyone above league 1 went near him

Re: Joey Barton
Get him in. He said he wished he'd joined Burnley years ago before he actually did. He'd be Claret through and through. To call him knob as the nob has just done is unfair. He has a short fuse and cant always control it. I remember our promotion season he was kicked, antgonised and apart from the cup.match v Lincoln (when like us watching was frustrated) kept control.
