Collins hasn’t played the number of games required yet to command the big fee some people are taking about which is why it would make absolutely zero sense to sell him this summer. He looks a real talent but needs to play more games before being touted as such a high price.
I agree, but I guess it totally depends on the clubs finances.
If he needs to be sold to help pay of the debt then I’m sure he will be.

With more performances like yesterday there will not be many takers. When he started playing for us I thought he was sensational but yesterday he was totally lacking in confidence, and when he comes back to defend he tries to be too clever and becomes a liability. He also goes down injured at the slightest touch. He could turn out to be the critical factor in keeping us up with several goals, but I have seen a different player since Wolves away last December

Ignore Newcastle, he’ll spend the summer simultaneously posting about the dire state of our finances and demanding that we spend fortunes on his transfer threads.

For a forward/winger, can somebody tell us how many times Maxwel Cornet has taken a player on? How many times has he got the ball in a wide area, 1v1, and gone at his opponent?

Genuinely can’t remember him doing this once.

I like him and think he’s a good player in the right system but I expect more from him in general play as an attacking force for us.

Only clubs that would take Collins for the fee it would need at this stage would be big, big sides buying him for the future, in my opinion. If that’s the case a sale at £20m with season loan back might be possible.

Let’s just hope all of this discussion is irrelevant in a weeks time.

If he goes this summer the £40m before we even answer the phone.

He’s a phenomenal talent.

£17.5m is the maximum we can get but it wouldn't be a massive surprise if our owners accepted a bid for a few million less, given the financial situation.

If we do go down we won't be in a position to drive a hard bargain. Every man and his dog know we're desperate for money.

I think we are all very aware that next to no money will be spent this summer. As others have said even if we stay up they reckon we would only spend 20m

Cornet was sensational in his first half a dozen games, but since Wolves away he has been a shadow of that player. Badly lacking in confidence and freezing when he gets a chance. He had two great opportunities yesterday, the first a one on one, the second when he worked it to his right and from 10 yards the ball hardly reached the goal line. He is also a liability when he comes back to defend, trying to be clever in getting himself out of trouble. I think we would struggle to get £17.5m. Having said that his goals could still keep us up

He has had some poor games for us but in the right system with quality around him he’d be absolutely class. Got the attributes to be a proper winger in a 433. He’s all about excellent movement and two good feet technically. Not one to take people on really.

Just out of interest, are the mainstream media running any stories about the catastrophe that will be Everton’s finances if they are relegated?

Their reduced income won’t touch the sides of their humongous wage bill. They were already trying to reduce costs last summer.
Nope.

Think we’ll have a fair bit of this between now & Sunday.

I agree, but the difference (compared to us anyway) is Everton have multiple saleable assets.

Richarlison they’d likely get £60-80m for, Calvert-Lewin has had a crap season but they’d still expect £30m+. Then you have Pickford, Mina, Keane, Godfrey, Alli, Gordon, Iwobi etc - some of them are terrible but they’d easily be able to be flogged. You’d expect they can offset any loans/reduction in income whilst spending the most of any relegated club on transfers with sales. I might be wrong, just how I see it.

We’ve only really got Cornet, McNeil, Pope and Collins. Weghorst we’ll struggle to shift (type of player who would get shipped to some Turkish club on loan for the remainder of his contract, I can feel it!), Taylor might get a go off someone too perhaps, Brownhill gets random links every now and then but I doubt this would be big money.
Good point but it isn't just that...

Everton are located in a large urban area - have just short of 40,000 home attendances and a new ground pending.

As an investment proposition it is another ball game. Plus no one really believes they will go down.

In terms of Cornet, I think he is a PL player. Tough season for him but you can see he has all the attributes to succeed in the PL.

Very few attacking players come to the Prem & score 8 goals (& counting, hopefully) in their first season.

If he scores 10 he’ll have given us a Chris Wood return in his first year despite AFCON and a few nightly injuries and frankly playing in a side struggling at the foot of the table.

Either way, he’ll get better as he as he gets more experience at this level, and in a better side he’d likely score a lot more goals. Hopefully that’s with us and a strengthened team next year.

That 65m won’t be paid in one chunk. Be lucky if we even get 50% of that upfront.

As we know most deals are spread over the length of the contract. We would have to sell more players so that get more upfront money.
As Wood’s sale has proved, it is common for clubs to take out a further deal with an institution to get the sale effectively upfront for presumably a x% fee. So if we sell players for £70m, the cash flow may benefit by, say, £65m.

So those finances would sort themselves fairly easily - the hard bit is having a top 2 squad afterwards. There is also of course the small thing about a further part of the club’s sale to transact, not hard to imagine a further loan to administer that though I’m unsighted on the contractuals, particularly if we are in the league below.

The headline number can be very misleading and only tells part of the story when comparing one transfer to another. Scheduling of payments plus performance related add ons can make a big difference. If Cornet’s release clause was £17.5m in cash payable on day one the that would be a lot more onerous for someone to meet then equal instalments over four years, for example.

That would be a likely scenario if only 1 club were genuinely interested but at that amount set to trigger it could generate more interest thus increasing the leverage in negotiating an higher transfer fee.

I must have missed posters stating we were already relegated, it’s just hypothetical bite sized snippets of discussion exploring what would happen if we were relegated in terms of cornets release clause fee.

I'm not a psychologist but I'm come to reflect that some people on here cannot cope with any kind of negativity.

One can only assume what kind of devastation would occur should said individuals descend the stairs (there are no bungalows in this metaphor) only to find their normal morning breakfast of Sugar Puffs has been eaten and not replaced.

It reminds me of that movie where the guy is refused a Whammyburger breakfast because of the time and then goes on a murderous shooting spree intent on ending the lives of anyone who comes into range.

I can well imagine one or two so enraged by comments on UTC forum that they get the bus into Burnley with a high powered rifle and start shooting people at random in the town centre.

Just feel how bad some of you negative b*stds would feel then...!

That is all well and good but what about the outstanding transfer payments to the clubs we bought Cornet, Weghorst and Collins from not to mention any sell on rights

- the accounts show we only paid a quarter of his fee upfront for Collins and there are likely to be conditional payments not just related to the division he plays in - he has played a lot of games this season.
