Re: Start up your Lightsabers
the mandalorian and boba fett series were rather plodding and simplistic. even a bit corny. quick draws??
i doubt this new show will be any better. the star wars universe has always been all hype and no substance.
the second series of star trek: picard on the other hand was very good and the new strange new worlds has gotten off to a good start.

a massive improvement on the first one. involves the borg queen, q and time travel. all good.AwayClaret wrote: ↑Fri May 20, 2022 7:20 pmThanks for reminding me. Keep forgetting about watching Picard S2!
there's a great nod to the voyage home on a bus; the funniest joke i've ever seen on star trek.

Have started watching "Love, Death and Robots" on Netflix ... well weird but strangely watchable for an animation series

love, death... is very good.
if you like that you'll like the boys presents: diabolical. but you really need to see the boys first for some context.
in case you don't know; the boys is a series about vigilantes against super-heroes. it's rather dark.

It was absolutely excellent and could quite possibly take the mantle off The Mandalorian as the best Star Wars media since Disney bought the franchise.

Good grief what a mountain of pish. Just watched ep.3 and I think I'm done with Star Wars entirely. I'm never giving anything SW related another chance. I've been fooled by trailers for the last time. Nobody involved with the production of this series has put in any effort whatsoever. I'm sorry to flame on a thing many people enjoy, and if you're reading this don't let my hating it spoil your enjoyment, but I'm really struggling to see what folk are seeing in these TV shows. I reckon passionate fan-fic writers with a budget a tenth of this show could produce something infinitely more compelling.

Enjoyed Ep3, filling in some of the gaps/unanswered questions from Revenge of the Sith to ANH.
I think it's being done very well and I'm thinking maybe the Third Sister is a former Jedi foundling

"Do or do not. There is no try".
Okay. Let's develop this. It's an absolutist worldview. Every endeavour measured by its success or failure. Leaves no room for growth as an individual. An overbearing pedagogical methodology. Creates insecurity in the student. Stress. Self-doubt. And so under this intense stress, Anakin was pressured and lured to the Dark side in rejection of such absolutism. Brilliant. This was covered in the prequel trilogy. This was a running theme in the trilogy. Prequel trilogy was marketed for kids. I was a kid when the prequel trilogy came out. Loved them. Prequel trilogy managed to entertain the masses while also developing thoughtful themes. Prequel trilogy took the original trilogy as a starting point and developed the ideas embedded into the original trilogy. But where or how does the new Disney content develop a theme? It's all terribly superficial. There's no tragedy to the characters. There's no substance to the Disney content. And Disney knows how to tell a story. They're just not interested in doing it with Star Wars. What narrative ideas from the Disney era will be left to cultural posterity? MacGuffin chases, disjointed character arcs, and tacky nostalgia. I think it's absolute w@nk, all of it.

So after 3 episodes in, my thoughts are that Stranger things season 4 is absolutely shitting all over it from a production value point of view

Yeah fair point, it's just that in certain scenes the Obi Wan show looks really low budget, bit like the Book of Boba Fett did as well. The acting is fine and Vader looks awesome. I'm just hoping it ramps up in the next three episodes.

Re: Start up your Lightsabers
Ok 4 episodes in now, and I've got to say I'm really disappointed. Poor pacing, really boring story, looks like they had a low budget as well which is weird.
Feeling really sorry for Ewan, who has most of his scenes talking to a 10 year old. I'll wait till all 6 have wrapped, but as it stands it's the biggest let down of disney Star Wars so far (and that's saying something)

Just watched the finale of Obi Wan Kenobi and have enjoyed this series very much, has filled in a few gaps between Episodes 3-4 of the Films.
Can see why some wouldn't enjoy it but I did so thats good enough for me.

Re: Start up your Lightsabers
Haven’t seen the finale yet but I’ve enjoyed it so far. Of course one of the problems with these prequel type things is a lack of jeopardy for the major characters. We all know who survives so it’s only the new characters who are ever in real danger (and they haven’t had time to develop to a point where you care either way). That’s why The Mandalorian works so well, although other established characters dip in and out the main protagonists are brand new to us.

Enjoyed the Finale.
I saw a quote on twitter recently and it was basically saying - Regardless of what people may think about Disney and what they've done with Star Wars, when it comes to Vader they've delivered what people wanted every single time.
I've enjoyed the whole series and I'm in agreement with the above twitter comment.

Re: Start up your Lightsabers
As others have said previously, the whole show should have been pitched at a more emotional level between Anakin and Obi Wan. Not exactly 6 episodes of them fighting each other, but more of the conflict inside their heads. Needed more flashbacks to flesh out the friendship. Extra characters like Reva and the Grand Inquisitor were poorly written and didn't make sense.
And why have 4 episodes as essentially filler where the sole goal is to save princess Leia? We all know she survives and so does Obi Wan, so the stakes were so so low and I got bored.
That scene in the last episode was pretty awesome though, I'll give them that. Just makes me wish we had more of those emotional scenes rather than bland filler.

Re: Start up your Lightsabers
Nostalgia bomb with a lot of guff in the middle. I know the inquisitors were a tie in to the animated series, but they seemed pretty pointless in the end. Reva particularly seemed a pointless character with a blatantly obvious character arc.
Couldnt help thinking that the crux of the storyline (Obi Wan / Anakin) could have been put better into a movie, like the excellent Rogue One which, incidentally, Disney are about to butcher with the new Andor series.
