BT Full Fibre Broadband

Post by Steve1956 » Sat May 21, 2022 12:38 pm

Just ordered this a couple of days ago for an extra quid on my bill, just had an email about how it's set up
An engineer will tinker in the street box then replace the old overhead cable running from the pole to your house, then enter the house and fix a new cabinet next to my main socket, the speeds will be vastly improved

All for an extra pound wow!..anyone else got full fibre?
Any good?

Not with BT but I have superfast fibre with Virgin Media and get 1 gig download speed and 120 mbps upload speed, if BT offer similar then I just want to say I have never had an issue with the Virgin Media package, so BT should work well for you.

It's an improvement on what I'm getting at the moment BC
Looks like Virgin blows BT out of the water though, according to CB

With Virgin Media, it is a new speed only recently available in the area where I live and I know it is not yet available nationwide, plus it comes down to individual needs. I am happy to pay for the package I have at a higher rate due to me working from home part time throughout the week as I mainly need the upload speed for my work, and due to working from home part time, my work pay for half my internet and electric bills, so it was worthwhile for me to get it.

I have the Sky fibre to the property and it works well. I am only on the 150Mb download version but I could upgrade to 1Gb download if I wanted. I find the current speed is fine. BT/openreach do the installation on behalf of Sky.

It took Openreach a couple of years to put the fibre backbone into Clitheroe and they are certainly keen to get loads of people using it.

You can order up to 900mb with BT as far as I'm aware on FTTP

As an aside, it absolutely blows my mind how it works. The glass fibre is about the thickness of a human hair and you can send (and receive) about 1Gb or 1,000,000,000 bits of data down it per second, as pulses of light down the hollow core. In both directions!!!
Ps a floppy disk used to hold 512,000 bytes of data or approx 4,000,000 bits.

I have the BT 900 package and it works well getting 900mps to the wired wifi router. As I understand it this is then shared between all the devices that are using it at the same time.
One thing to watch out for is the positioning of the router, the engineer put the main box in a corner of the house (behind the telly) so the wired wifi router is also near there, this meant that until I set up a mesh system the wifi coverage around the house, garage and shed was worse than before. The mesh system sorted it.

Which is sometimes the only way, as the fibre has to be run from the outside of the building. It is impractical to expect to get the ONT in the centre most location every time. BT Whole Home WiFi is the mesh system that covers scenarios like this.

Fortunately I already had discs for the BT whole home system and they still worked, which is good because they are quite pricey.

We have a new build house in Preston. When we bought it BT fibre to home was pre installed. I was with BT before anyway, so I brought my tv box, and they gave me a new router. The house is coming up 3 yrs old at Christmas, and last year they up graded me to the 1 Gig Halo and 3 discs for nothing. The internet is amazingly quick, no issues, the router is in corner of lounge at front of house, and services no end of kit, 5 bedrooms and a large family room at back with TV’s, Alexa show, Xbox, I pads, laptops, you name it. No buffering issues when streaming, top notch product, I would recommend.

I have the BT 150 version and the Decomesh system, so it is everywhere. More than most people need to do anything.

Thanks for starting this thread Steve 👍🏻👍🏻
Didn’t know about this, live out in the sticks round Lytham and have struggled to get above 17mb from my current bt subscription, just upgraded to 900mb (garenteed no lower than 700mb) all for £1 that’s over 40 times faster for a quid I’m buzzing taken my mind off today’s worries.
No more crappy internet and a win today and I’ll be floating away 😂😂

Glad to help Stickers,it was in a BT sale don't know if its still available...thought it was to good to miss at that price and the speeds they have guaranteed are far quicker than anything I was getting ...and if I don't get the speeds promised I read it that they compensate you by 20 notes ...must be a win win

Note that the BT guarantee is for the speed it comes into the premises (ie your router) Not to every or any device. The BT router uses its "smart" settings to analyse the dispersion. A major factor can be how old some of your devices are, how many are connected, as well as the distance from your router,

We can't get faster through our BT line than we have already on Halo2 as Halo 3 is not available in our area yet
