What does Burnley mean to you?
Simple question. Could be the club, the town, family, the people. Putting some words together for a book and keen to get a broader opinion. UTC.
Re: What does Burnley mean to you?
Burnley Football Club is my team, it means everything.
Burnley the town ? I'm not from Burnley.

What a Claret says
I have no connection with Burnley apart from watching the Clarets although my Mrs is a Padiham lass

If I won the euro millions I’d probably live somewhere fancy but Burnley would always be home.
Re: What does Burnley mean to you?
Burnley born and bred, parents lived there all their lives, yet I've traveled the world, lived in numerous other countries for a long time, I (and my family) have been spreading the gospel for decades, so many people have become aware of Burnley in so many different countries. Consider myself an ambassador for the town but definitely more so for the Clarets and will continue to do so until I pass

I've supported Burnley FC since I got them in an FA Cup sweepstake at school in 1961-62 season.
I have relatives in Lancashire, but had never been to Burnley.
I've visited many times since.
Love the club, Turf Moor, and the town.

Re: What does Burnley mean to you?
Not from Burnley, grew up in Oswaldtwistle and watched my first game at the turf in 1969.My dad was a Bolton fan, but turned to the claret cause despite being related to their all time hero Nat Lofthouse. No other team for me UTC
Re: What does Burnley mean to you?
When the Burnley bug bites, there’s nowt you can do. It’s Us vs Them, Pride of Lancashire, no better than example of a town club punching above its weight. Burnley FC means EVERYTHING to me.

Re: What does Burnley mean to you?
My family is from there, my dad was born in the old Bank Hall maternity hospital in 1960.
My family lived in various areas of the town from Westgate, to Brunshaw and Tod rd.
Some of my older cousin's all have memories of going on the old Longside and Beehole end as kids before they moved to N.Wales
I've still got family there, but I only speak to one of them.
I visited numerous times throughout my childhood, there's even a picture of me in the market place when the fountain was there and Tandy's was still open before it became Dixon's, I believe I'm wearing a rather fetching shell suit
I moved there in 2002 and then left in 2010 to be closer to my two kids.
I'm what's affectionately (or not) known as a May 09er
I enjoy being a Burnley fan and what goes with it, it's given me some brilliant memories, non more important than the season we finished 7th because my son's and I managed to do approx half of the overall games that season, a mixture of home and away and they still talk about certain parts of that season to this day.
If I could return to Burnley to live, then I would, but it isn't going to happen now, I'm staying in the South.

Re: What does Burnley mean to you?
Burnley is me, the millstone grit stone our town was built from dug out from local quarries connects us to our place on the planet, solid, dependable, unfashionable but honest, mum and dad RIP immigrants from another country came to Burnley in 1961 and were made to feel welcome and loved our town because of this, despite the smoke, despite the so called poorly paid jobs, despite the weather they always told me growing up that Burnley gave them everything they ever needed and wanted and as a result would do anything for the town, best thing they did was bring their children up as decent people with a deep love of Burnley, Burnley FC,all we stand for. My children, grandchildren, and my siblings children and grandchildren are the same.
Whatever happens tomorrow won't change my love of the town and club, a walk up Hambledon hill, Pendle Hill, Crown point ,Boulsworth hill and looking down and across the town I know where my heart is and will always be.
UTC.

Re: What does Burnley mean to you?
I was born in Burnley in February 1962. Lived in Colne until my dad was offered a job in Kent in 1968. Burnley was the only team I could ever support and most of the games I have seen would have been at Griffin Park, Brisbane Road, Plough Lane and the Priestfield Stadium. It has been amazing to see little old Burnley reach the premier league and stay there - whatever happens today I will still drink my match day coffee from my Burnley mug, trawl the internet for coverage and fir every 90 minutes my thoughts and heart will be thinking of Burnley. After my family Burnley is my life, my love, my passion and always will be.

I blo**y hate them. I will never forgive Burnley FC for what it has done to both me and my family. The stress, the strain, the expense and the exhaustion.
But you know what? I wouldn't change it for the world.

- Lived on or around Brunshaw Rd since the age of 2 (1987)
- All I have ever known yet wouldn't change it for the world
- The roller coaster of seeing us through every professional division... (Very appreciative of where we are now!)
- Ternent, Coyle, Dyche ❤
- Heath, Blake, Ings ❤
- Pearce, Beast, Pope ❤
For the contributors to the thread who are Burnley through and through but not from these parts, how did you originally 'land' on Burnley? It always interests me as I once wanted to support a Premier League club and drew Villa out of a hat (Although I did draw Derby and threw them back )

Re: What does Burnley mean to you?
The football club means absolutely everything to me.
Re: What does Burnley mean to you?
I was born in Fleetwood and at 4 years old my dad took me to Bloomfield Road for my first ever match,a pre season friendly v Blackburn Rovers.Like him I was a Blackpool fan.
We moved to Bury when I was 7 and one of the teachers (her dad was actually Canon Smith who was the chairman at the time) had a season ticket for each pupil to use.My first match at Gigg Lane was a 3-1 win against Scunthorpe.I was football mad and used to go every week. One week watching the first team and the next watching the reserves in the Central League.I loved watching different teams play.
During this time,a bloke across the road started taking me to Maine Road and I watched some top footballers from The Kippax.
As I entered my teens,I started going to Burnden Park on the bus every other week when Bury were playing away
In 1978 we moved to Burnley and I remember asking an old lady at the Casterton Avenue roundabout which way was Turf Moor. The match was a League Cup tie against Bradford City and I watched it from the away end as it was the first entrance I came to and I was used to being able to walk around the ground at Gigg Lane.I watched plenty of other matches that season but remained a Bury fan until 9th May 1987 when I went to Turf Moor as one and came off as a Claret.
I was bitten and over time my dad was too.
There is something unique and extraordinary about our Club that words cannot explain
I could live anywhere else in the world now and Burnley Football Club would always be my team as it would with all my Claret supporting sons.

Re: What does Burnley mean to you?
brought up in burnley till 14 then moved south with family. Went to Teds. Mum and dad born and bred in Burnley. My dads great grandparents owned a Mill in Harlesyke (parts now in London museum).
I cried when my mum picked me up on a Friday afternoon to take me away from Teds for the last time (the family had already moved south and was living with my grandparents in Burnley), all my mates were patting me on the back and I was trying to hide the tears. When I got south, I worked out which direction was from my bedroom window and used to imagine being in Burnley - did this for a few months until I got settled in.
Went to middle class state school in suburban sticks and stood out like like a sore thumb with my accent and ginger hair so tried desperately to lose my Burnley accent, which I did by the time I went to Uni.
Followed the lads ever since of course and moved back north to Manchester 20 years ago and season ticket holder. Still get a warm familiar sensation as I drive over the top from Rossendale past the Waggoners like I am coming home. Hard to describe even though my last mate from Burnley died about 5 years ago.
No place like Burnley or folk from Burnley - friendly, warm, funny, peculiar. When Man U played Burnley at the Turf in 70s and I walked past a long long queue of their fans curled round the corner , as a 12 year old I remember observing how brash and different their fans were and thinking, "they are different to us". Part of being a little old outpost of a big city I suppose - even though we were once the biggest cotton producer in the world.

Born in Burnley but left when I was two and haven't lived there since. I'm fond of the town, but Cumbria is home.
What does the club mean to me? Too much really, I'll be glad when today's over with whatever happens.

Brought up in Littleborough and after my first match in 84, my team has always been Burnley Football Club. However, at times, they haven't half tried to lose my support. They have annoyed, frustrated and deflated me to the point of walking away, but I just cant and never will. UTC

Born in Burnley, grew up in Nelson, now live 1 mile from the Turf. Socialise, shop and work in the town. Followed the team to every corner of the land and a few places abroad. Through it I have good friends from almost every area of Burnley - who all share the same passion.
Hard to put in words what the town and football club mean to me.

Re: What does Burnley mean to you?
My dad was from Burnley. I have never lived there.
Born and bred in Cambridge, which has a neutral accent, I had a weird cross of Burnley x cockney.
What does club mean to me? Too much on many occasions.
Physical fights as a teen, with Classmates who supported local teams, when we met them.
Betrayal of of my parents trust, aged 14.
When I was forbidden from attending Orient game. I went on the train anyway and attended.
Think my dad understood the decision I made but hated my lies.
Now nearly 50 the passion for the club is still at times a bit too much. I will be in bits later during the match. Hopefully not after! UTC

Re: What does Burnley mean to you?
I was born at Bank Hall hospital about a mile from Turf Moor in 1964. My dad took me to my first game in 1968 and I never looked back. My mums family was mainly scousers and Yorkshiremen and in the 70’s Liverpool and Leeds were the power houses (yes Leeds) but my head would not be turned and it never has been.
I left Burnley first at 18 for three years and again at 22 never to return to live there. Burnley is what made me and it’s forever home.

Family many whom still reside there.
School I was educated at Ivy Bank.
Thompsons Park I recall many happy summer days there playing tennis and rowing on the boating lake with my younger sister.
Moved to Glasgow aged 16 mainly yo find work, but also because most of family came back north.
The club will always have a place in my heart, but I maybe don't feel it like those who live in the town itself.

Re: What does Burnley mean to you?
Born and bred and lived all my life in Malta, except for 1 year in London during which I watched the Clarets in the flesh on 3 away matches.
Got hooked on Burnley when I was 10 years old and supported them throughout, even through the bad old days of the 4th division. Missed coming up for the Orient game because my wife was expecting our second son. Been to Turf several times and was at Wembley with my elder son for the Championship play-off final.
Have chewed my fingernails down to the flesh with nerves for this evening. Local TV provider is not relaying the game so hopefully I can get a good stream.
Retaining PL status will be a great 40th wedding anniversary for me

Re: What does Burnley mean to you?
Moved to Croshills 1992. Went on 1st time in late '92. Had followed football but never had one team until that day. Later lived in Foulridge and got to know the Pendle/Burnley area better. Moved away 2003 through work in the Navy. Met loads of Clarets of all shapes and sizes in the Forces since. Would move back to the area if the situation arose.
Still wracked with nerves every televised or radio commentary, let alone at live games.
Everyone I know knows I'm a Claret, get respect for following a proper team and not a glory hunter following the big six etc.

Re: What does Burnley mean to you?
When I was about 9/10 I started supporting Burnley but have zero connections with the town. I am now 64
At that time I lived in Kent and managed to go to Turf Moor when I was 14 or so vs. West Ham we won 3-0 I think went by train and had to pretend I was a Hammers fan on the train home. Moved to Sussex in 80’s had one year in Hong Kong 88/89 and then back to Sussex.
In 2014 moved to Greystones Ireland came back to Sussex March 2020. It was easier to to get to Burnley from Dublin so went a lot during that era. Go to all the Southampton Brighton etc games
During this 50+ years being a Claret has been a huge part of my life
Whatever happens today I will still be a fan tomorrow.
I have gone off soccer because of all the cheating and poor refs VAR etc but still want Burnley to do well.

Re: What does Burnley mean to you?
Born Bank Hall Hospital 1965. Brought up Healey Wood, great place to grow up, semi rural, honest decent people. Educated at Coal Clough Juniors then Towneley High.
Left Burnley at 19, never lived there since. Burnley the Town will always have a place in my heart. The Club however, the beating heart of the Town means everything. So many happy memories of Turf Moor days, not just as a kid, but I've been back as an adult many times on match days.
No matter what happens today they will always be my Club. COME ON CLARETS WE ARE RIGHT BEHIND YOU!!
