I’ll be gutted to see Pope leave, he’s certainly surpassed Heaton as the best goalkeeper I’ve seen play for Burnley. But if the right bid comes in then I think it’s a no-brainer. We need to raise funds, and I think Hennessey could do a more than adequate job in the Championship.

Brilliant shot stopper Pope but I guess the question marks over his distribution (and, as we saw again yesterday, he can be flappy from crosses) will affect which clubs might be interested.

At 30 with a year left on his deal (apparently we have an option for another, so you could say it's effectively two years) talk of £40m seems a bit fanciful. I think the list of PL clubs that a) need a goalie b) don't mind one not known for his distribution and c) are willing to pay £20m+ is probably a short one. Considering Pope is probably our most valuable player and we are going to be reliant on sales this summer, it could be a sticky situation, especially if only one team wants him.

I'm not sure any sort of "bidding war" is likely but if say Newcastle/West Ham were keen we will hopefully at least not get ripped off. Hennessey should be fine in the Championship and BPF is OK as a number two so our depth is actually alright in goal. I'd love him to stay but we probably can't afford to keep him unfortunately.

Apparently Charlton will be getting a percentage of whatever we sell Nick for.

Can't see him going for anything more than £25m. Any team wanting to play out from the back - and let's be honest, that's most teams - just won't want to pay any more than that. Fulham or West Ham perhaps.
