McNeil
Where does he go from here?
Re: McNeil
Would love to see him have a season for us in Championship. Build his confidence and actually score some goals
Re: McNeil
Leicester would be a good move for him I think. Put some better players around him and I think he'll go on to be a good Premier League player.

Re: McNeil
Good player but I’m not convinced he has a level much higher, would have liked to see him give a bit more recently because I do think he has it, I hope he stays because he’s a one of our best players but I’d take 20m and reinvest

I’m struggling to see him going anywhere above a Fulham or Bournemouth. Too inconsistent for mid to top half teams

I think he is one who may stay - not for the want of us trying to shift I’m certain. I think it’ll do him the world of good having a season doing well in that league.

Really can’t see clubs queuing up to by him just not produced this season. Maybe a season at a lower level will do him good.

Re: McNeil
Been very poor for 18 months, needs a year in the championship ripping apart poorer defences to rebuild his confidence. Also needs a manager to get hold of him and say this is your position, this is where I see you, no more getting away with excuses of not knowing what his best position is, he is one and only one. He is not a world beater, he doesnt score goals for starters, he is basically one footed but a good crosser of the ball...thats it, but still in the right position would rip some Championship teams apart

Re: McNeil
I did have that view but he’s not looked up to it when played there - the big caveat with that is that our set up probably wasn’t right for him to be played centrally.
Re: McNeil
Not sure, we'd be fortunate to get my estimate of £20m-25m, I wonder if Sidney still values him at over £40m. Another win for the football expert

Re: McNeil
He will join a good PL club who will turn him into a good left wingback
Re: McNeil
Really, really bad today. Credit to him to never hiding, he kept asking for the ball, but lost it through a failed dribble attempt far too many times. He did spray some good balls out to the left when he got his head up and looked for the pass.
I could see PL sides taking him for a far more modest fee that we once hoped for, but to be honest a season in the Championship under a manager who encourages the team to play with the ball will do him the world of good.

Not good enough. No one will pay a fee. Wouldn’t get into any prem team.

Hopefully not playing for us.
Can’t fathom seeing him doss around the field for another season.
Possibly the most overrated player we’ve ever had

Up until this season he's been a left winger, and a very good one too.
Whoever decided to move him around and change his role needs to take some blame for his poor season.

Re: McNeil
He's had a poor season, but he essentially our only player who carries the ball and certainly the only one who might get you out of your seat
Dyche has done terrific to bring him in when he did, but whether the flair and creativity was coached out of him, or he just isn't operating at the same level that he did, or he's just struggling being part of a poor side, he's clearly probably in need of a move
But we see, I'd be sorry to see him go but we might not have a lot of choice

Re: McNeil
0 goals and 1 assist from him this season, genuinely woeful. Dyche may have ruined him as a footballer, gonna be really tough for him to mentally recover from this horrific season. He's not a PL calibre wide player and hasn't performed centrally. I'm just not sure what he is? a wing back in a better side maybe?
Re: McNeil
Let's remind ourselves that this is a player who has played many games for us this season as an.attack minded player, yet hasn't scored even one goal.

Re: McNeil
Be lucky to get 10 million for him...an attack minded player that no longer assists and doesnt score. Clubs wont be breaking down our door. He is here to stay. One good season back in his best position will have his value rocket again
Re: McNeil
Get him playing for a manager who knows how to work with attacking players and he'll be fine. For all his faults he was the only player in the second half looking for the ball and trying to drive us forward.

I'd hope that the new manager would convince any of our players courted by PL teams to give him until at least January.. then assess where we are in terms of an instant return.. if finances allow

Re: McNeil
Honestly I don't think anyone will offer enough for us to be tempted to sell. Unless we really have. He's been awful in the final third most games this season but he's not had much support as Taylor has been much quieter too. And others from midfield just aren't helping

Re: McNeil
Noone would claim he had a good game today. He didn't, partly because he was shunted into a position from which he's struggled to influence games all season in the first half, and partly because he was too pedantic in possession when we were chasing the game in the second.
But - a bit of perspective: the reason McNeil will fetch good money is the quality of the pass to Collins which created our goal. It's world class, in the vision to see the run, and then the technical quality to execute the pass perfectly, in both weight and accuracy. There were a couple of other passes of similar quality, and despite being out ot the game for most of one half he had our only to shots on goal in the first half and name more passes than anyone else over 90 minutes. Once again he carried our creative burden on his shoulders, and its increasingly weighed heavily upon him as it has today.
He might well be someone who would benefit from a year in the Championship to rediscover his love of the game, like Grealish did at Villa a few years back. But I suspect he'll be in demand, and if he does go I'll regret that we never saw him given the chance at Burnley to maximise his potential in the more central role im sure will suit him best. I think he can be a top player and if he does leave, I hope its to somewhere that will give him the platform to make the best of himself, and I hope he proves my faith in his ability right. But today is not one he'll look back on too fondly, and its a microcosm of his season.

Re: McNeil
Can't believe some of the c*** written about the player who, since he came into the side, has carried our attacking threat on his shoulders. Hope he leaves and finds a team, and fans, that appreciate him.
Some of the people on here make me feel embarrassed to be a Burnley fan.

Re: McNeil
For me his biggest strength when he came into the side was wrapping his foot round the ball from right on the touchline and providing world class crosses. He doesn't do that anymore. He's too lightweight to play central midfield and the only other option would be to try him as a number 10 in the hole. Thought he was woeful today and I had a little feeling that today was his day to shine and keep us up. Shows what I know. Plays like he has all the time in the world (which is an asset to great players in great teams) but we needed (need) urgency, pace and energy. His head was one of the first to drop today too.

Re: McNeil
Yup, the place from which he produced that world class pass. Like him drifting from the right, and like him off the front centrally, and in the Championship I think he's be fine in a central midfield 2 or 3.
But I'm done with trying to defend the kid. Hes been pretty good for us for 4 years you know.

He doesn't appear to have the essential defensive qualities to play centre-mid.
maybe in the future, who knows?
But if playing CM hinged on one or two killer forward passes in a game we'd as well play Nathan Collins there, he certainly can pick them.
Re: McNeil
He did but so did Collins who had a very good second half.
Re: McNeil
I think McNeil will go on to prove a lot of our fans wrong. Playing in our setup he's been basically playing with one arm tied behind his back. Statuesque centre forwards who barely move and midfielders who treat the ball as if it's a live grenade aren't exactly helpful for creative players.
