Liberated

Post by Guller Bull » Sun May 22, 2022 8:26 pm

I know that it is probably too soon for many but I feel strangely liberated.

Would have love to have stayed up to fight again but the reality was that sooner or later we were due a reset.

Got the hurly burly of the Championship and all the local derbies to look forward to.

Hopefully we will be competitive and not be battling relegation and "punching too far above our weight"

I can certainly see what you're saying. I've lived and breathed this relegation fight for what seem like an eternity. I think I'll still be licking my wounds for a few days but after that......

Well we may well win more than we lose next season - Premier League life is all about survival, misery and dejection. Winning, no matter what division, is a great feeling.

Hmmm. I think we might struggle but depends who stays and who we bring in. Getting the right manager is crucial.

I fear we will need to rely on cheap unexpected successes and loans to be properly competitive.

Pope will go for a fee
We might lose McNeil or Cornet but I'm not convinced either have done enough to generate enough interest.
Brownhill might attract Leeds if they lose Phillips. I hope not as I hope he will be our central lynchpin next season.

Other than those I really can't see many leaving for money so most of that will need to service the debt along with the rest of the Wood money.

There certainly won't be much leftover to freshen the squad.

Big positive is our infrastructure which is much improved.

The only problem with the Championship is I'll have to dig the radio out, games aren't streamed.

Not feeling liberated, but not crying like a baby either.

46 games of actually competing though, and away games now to go to (hate travelling in the Premier League).

Just hope we choose right with a new manager. Someone who actually knows the Championship please.

Same here for most of the above (maybe not the dig about our Chairman's religion).

I think the upset and worry comes from the feeling that getting relegated truly is the end of a relatively successful era, with a new bunch of unknowns re: finances, manager, players going, even the recent news about the academy, rather than being annoyed about actually leaving the Premier League™ which, let's be honest, is a bland thing to be involved in.

Still hurting but starting to feel the same.
The last 2 seasons have been mostly miserable, feeling like fighting a losing battle..
The Championship is an exciting league. Chance of winning more matches and a reset we need with a new manager, new tactics and new players UTC

I think the number of goals coming from our left has been alarming all season, great as he is going forward McNiel is lazy in defence, and that matters. Another overlap today in the middle unchallenged to score from our left

Slightly liberated in the sense that we don't have to endure BS decisions anymore and we're on a more level playing field rather than constantly trying to match squads assembled with the help of multi billionaires, however, I would have also liked to have seen how we got on in the Premier League with a new regime and our own rebuilt squad as well. At least it's saved us potentially beating Derby's record!

Presumably means we will be able to find a stream from abroad for 3pm games.

today feels like a weight off our back ,since the glorious Europe season the decline and reducing enjoyment as a fan has been relentless and depressing . The club ,owners, manager and players gave me and my son a lifetime memory in Athens but that high wasn’t followed up with the needed investment in the team or tactics to maintain it. The decline since has been slow painful but inexorable and made the fewer and fewer high points even more enjoyable but today wasn’t a surprise just an inevitability. Personally I think I will again be able to go to matches thinking we have a 50% chance of a win whereas this season for 70% of the time not losing has been the peak of my hopes and the regularity of the match times will be refreshing. And it’s a fresh group of of new grounds to visit. The club finances I suspect will impact what can be done with the team but again that’s a wait and see . I look forward to next season optimistically

I wondered last night how I would feel if we went down..I know now...GUTTED . Much worse than I thought it would be.

It's the financial side of things that worries me most..I just don't trust the new owners .Can't see it being a bounce back job. Hope I'm wrong .

A better title for the thread would have been LIBERATED ???

Strange one. I strongly suspected we'd go down after our appalling shows at Newcastle and Leeds earlier in the season and after the Norwich game i was totally resigned to it and was at peace with it. I did have hope after our late rally but the damage was already done

Im very glad the seasons over.

It’s been depressing since it started, and frankly even though it’s ended with the worst possible outcome, I feel a sense of relief knowing what’s happened and dealing with it as opposed to thinking what might happen. Hard to describe, but yes, I feel glad to know the result even if it’s ****.

If that makes any sense…

Last two seasons have been an ordeal frankly. Awful stodgy football, barely any wins. I’ve not enjoyed a lot of it. A total reset is required. Some big decisions to be made.

I wasn't pinning for the Championship like some, I don't mind if we only won 10 games a season in the Premier League, mades each one all the more special. But I enjoyed the prestige, MOTD, Fantasy Football, knowing we had a degree of satety while we were there.

Always knew we'd go down sooner or later and many times this season I'd made peace with it. Scraping survival would have been fun, but I think next season would have been a real slog given the huge changes that will take place in the backrooms and the squad.

6 years is brilliant, so many teams we have called our peers lasted one or two at most. We did it our way, it was the only way we could and it could also never last. But it was fun wasn't it!

Liberated with the multimillion pound leverage Damoclean sword hanging over our heads? Yeah, feel so liberated tonight. Some of you are going to be very disappointed, to put it lightly, when real world 'liberated' reality hits home. And with that, I bid you good night.

A couple of years ago relegation would not have bothered me so much, but now with no manager, an ageing squad with so many players out of contract, and massive load of debt hanging over us, a successful season at the lower level looks a long way away.

The club really needs to start getting the big decisions right - starting with the new manager - but at the moment I’m really fearful about the future.

Three posts on the trot lunacy...

I doubt there is a single person here who believed our top fight status would last forever, but one thing is for sure; this relegation is not a normal one. I really fear for the future. We are NOT going down with bags of parachute money to give us a chance of a bounce back. I fear we are up the creek with massive debts to service.

Honestly, if it wasn’t for the dark unknowns of the big loan repayments and debt the takeover created, I’d actually prefer another season in the championship. Just hope the doomdayers (of which I am one) are proved wrong.
