Chris Wood - End of game

Did anyone else think like me that Chris Wood’s actions at the end of the game were strange? Did he not hear the boos he received when he came on? Yes he was a decent player for us for a few years but was abject this season and arguably cost us several points in early games. Today, when his new team has just relegated the club he admitted he was playing in his comfort zone for, was not the occasion for him to seek out some applause for himself. I thought it showed a total lack of sensitivity and understanding on his part. I realise others may disagree with me.

I gave him a clap at the end. Really, really good player for us, all time top PL scorer (in the PL era), we got a great fee for him and never had a chance to give him a goodbye. Yeah he was crap this season, but so were most of the team. Didn't like his comfort zone comment but can't say it really bothered me.

I thought Chris was excellent at the end of the game as was Tripps, going roubd applauding the BFC Fans ...

For gods sake get over it, he was great for us and top scorer for several seasons ... I for one didn't boo him its pathetic and childish.

I left immediately the final whistle blew - I didn't want to see any more. But Wood did a terrific job for us until this season when he struggled to get the goals.

I don’t think I’ve ever left Turf Moor at such a pace once the whistle went, just felt done in and wanted to get straight on with the joys of the M1. What is it he did?

Not sure he did anything apart from hang around on the pitch a bit? Plenty of Burnley fans applauded him off.

He had a poor season, but he didn't deserve the boos.
I made a point of standing and applauding when he came on, even if I cut a lonely figure.

There were some near me in the Bob Lord booing him which I felt was very disrespectful. I think they could do to look at his statistics from when he was a Burnley player. They might then appreciate what a contribution he made in maintaining our Premier League status.

Wood, Trippier and Howe were all pretty respectful today.

Wood and Trippier deserve a round of applause from our fans IMO. Both played a significant role for us and obviously hold the club in high regard. I’m not that bitter that I can’t give credit where it’s due.

We left immediately on the final whistle too - slightly regret not staying to show my appreciation for Tarkowski (and others that we may not see again).

As for Wood - he was really poor for us this season but didn’t deserve the predictable boos - he had plenty of good seasons. I’d take him (and especially Trippier) making their way around to all four stands to applaud the fans in the way I reckon it was meant.

He was so crap as soon as we replaced him the goals started to flow. We scored 34 goals all season. We create next to nothing, a number of games we have not had a shot on target. No striker is going to be prolific when you have our midfield behind them.

He clapped all ends of the ground. It felt like it was a belated goodbye and it seemed genuine and I personally thought it was quite a nice touch. I applauded him, he's the best striker we've had in the Premier league.

Saw that and don’t think many knew it was trippier to be fair, just saw a player down. He waved at the Jimmy Mc apologetically and to be fair he was up before their other player even looked like moving.

Bizarre the Wood got booed. Thought he was an excellent striker for us over the years, played a big part in our success inc getting into Europe. Was absolutely crap this year but then again so have been many others.

Wood did nothing wrong. Thought he, Howe and Trippier conducted themselves professionally. Was always going to get some panto boos coming on but I and a good few others applauded at the end.

I didn't get the booing ,I think the lad did very well for us looking at his stay overall but what do we expect if a club comes swinging through the trees with an offer that nets you a signing on fee of £ 1m + and doubles your wages ? He didn't ask to go...he was ASKED to go .Granted it all happened very quickly because Howe saw him as the right man at the time and he had a bucketful of dosh .I didn't hear any boos when Joelinton went off and , as for Trippier , I thought he had a great game and was very respectful to the home fans ....unlike the ****** winding us up after he scored the penalty .In that atmosphere that could have turned nasty.

I left as soon as the whistle went too. Had enough of this season to hang around. Wish people would have kept any applause for Trippier until after the game though and not during it particularly when taking the corner before the penalty and him shouting about the handball.

Considering he was booed when he came on I actually thought Wood showed both guts and class when he stuck around and applauded us Burnley fans at the end of the game. He definitely was not on an ego trip ..his whole demeanour suggested rueful sympathy.

I thought he was class too, he thanked all the clarets for the support they'd shown him whilst he was here, I certainly applauded him.

You really can't blame him for moving up to the Toon, probably quadrupled his pay and a good signing on fee too, I'd have done the same.

I didn't boo him but he made his own bed by saying he was in his comfort zone at Burnley. Costs a fortune to go watching millionaires play football and I do not want to hear that one of them wasn't squeezing every last bit of effort out for the cause. That showed a complete lack of respect for us Burnley supporters.

I clapped him too. Without his goals we'd have been in this position years ago. Even more cudos to the guy that he still applauded us despite his reception when he came on.

I had the decency to stay beyond the final whistle, disappointed as I was. I think Chris Wood and Tripps showed some class in applauding the crowd who to my surprise stayed behind in large numbers. I feel Wood will just be a bench warmer at best for the rest of his Newcastle career and I can see him maybe back at Leeds sometime soon.

I applauded Trippier and Wood during the game, and thanked Tarks et al as I walked down the steps at full time

I couldn't get out of there fast enough after that

Trippier had his arm round Barnes’ shoulder and was in conversation with him for quite a long time. He didn’t deserve any boos and I didn’t hear any aimed at him.

I thought it was good too. Actually think we have a pretty decent and respectful fan base on the whole. We have a few clowns who boo the the knee taking and give every ex player dogs abuse, but on the whole we aren’t a bad bunch.

Burnley fans appreciated yesterday that the team did leave everything on the pitch over the last few months. There were limitations, and ultimately we weren’t good enough to stay up, but you could see the commitment in that group. The fans recognised that.

It was in the second half, whilst one of the Newcastle players was down on the edge of their area, Trippier went down with cramp and their keeper stretched it out for him.

TBF, I don't think many realised it was him at the time, he wasn't down for long and he did hold his hand up in apology (which wasn't needed)

I went to our last three away games and have to say you cannot get more devoted fans. These are the guys I really feel for. They probably do 90% of away games

That's the mentality of some of our supporters. I couldn't believe it when supporters around me were applauding Trippier when he was lining up the corner before the penalty. The very same supporters were booing when Wood was about to come on the pitch

Nearly all the area I sit were still there. Athletic's Jones described us as feeling numb. It wasn't the case. A lot of the team are genuine Burnley legends for what they have achieved. Many of them are the best players to wear the shirt for a very long time.
It was an end of an era and it felt right to applaud and sing their names. I didn't want Tarky or Barnes or Mee or Cork to walk off that pitch without some further appreciation for what they have done. I don't remember seeing Pope leave. Yesterday was strange, Bastards at home under Coyle felt similar. Sort of surreal and this can't be happening moment. Grim. I don't blame you for wandering off though. **** result, **** day.

There are ways to lose. We lost both our status and the game badly yesterday but I thought we were decent as fans. No strops. No aggy pitch invasion. No boos for our own. Genuine appreciation and affection for this group of players. This is remarkable given the season we have had. A massive winless run at home was accepted and shrugged off. The sacking of a managerial great with no plan has been accepted and shrugged off. The sale of goalscoring asset has been accepted and shrugged off. Players performing poorly has been accepted and shrugged off largely. Look at the toxicity at Everton and Leeds this season. Leeds in their last home game before they snatched a late point were calling the manager out and telling the board to **** off. Everton have been almost bipolar in their sentiments towards the team and Lampard through the run in.

I'm on other forums with mixed fan bases and our reputation is awful. It is undeserved. Our hardcore fans are staunch and committed. Look at how many players often derided find a home with us and enjoy the best spells of their careers. We should be proud of the match going fans defiance and commitment this season.
