Chinese Whispers

Did anyone else fall foul to this most hated tradition of a final day shoot out?

It must have gone round the upper tier of the Jimmy Mac about 5 times in the second half that Brentford had gone 2-1 ahead. At one point this rumour was even synchronised up with (what appeared) to be a large group celebrating near the boxes in the Jimmy Mac Lower, making us all believe it for quite a while. The 4G signal up there in Row V is basically a non-entity, and thus drama and then devastation repeatedly reared it’s head.

If you were a 2-1 rumour monger in the JMU today, I will need a while to forgive you. Does anyone else have any similar tales of woe from today?

Same in the Longside. Celebrations like we’d scored a goal only to go through the heartbreak.

I hated today to be honest.

Fortunately I had my portable wireless set with me. Both quicker and more reliable that t'internet for this purpose.

Happened twice in the JMU around where I sit. Fortunately I had bet365 open which updates almost immediately so knew it was bullshit.

Happened in the Longside upper. I didn't get carried away, all it takes is for one idiot to shout "Brentford have scored" and it spreads like wildfire. Was horrible depending on the other game and having a clue what was happening.

Aye, it was bizarre. You could see even our bench reacting to it and turning to the Bob Lord for clarification

Fortunately I sit next to a bloke who must have access to Armageddon-proof 4G and he was well up on the scores. He was quick to dampen the fleeting excitement around me.

There was even a lady walking in front of the JH stand showing 2-1 with her fingers mid way through the half and beckoning the crowd to cheer, strange!

Same in CFS. It was young kids pretending to know the score

Apparently one of the stewards in front of JML told the crowed that Brentford had gone 2-1 up.

Yep. JHU was the same. Guys in front of me shouting Brentford were winning whilst my Fotmob still said 1-0 to Leeds. Then rumours Leeds were down to 9 men...of course it was Brentford. It's cruel for those fleeting moments.

I think only one person round by us could manage to get any information on his phone. The rest of us could only tell the time on ours. Every time I visit a southern football ground there is 5G and phones trawl through different websites rapidly, so fully up to date with happenings elsewhere. We are the poor relations here in East Lancs.

People will do owt for attention. I brought my dab radio and tuned into talk sport which had the Leeds game on live so listened to that while I watched our game. It made for bemusement when people around the ground were jumping up and down at brentford supposedly taking the league.

No idea where it came from, around us it went round that it was 3-1 and I was an emotional wreak, only to find out a couple of minute later, it was 1-1 and Brentford down to 9 men, kind off crushed me emotionally.

A signal in the JMU? I feel like that itself is a rumour ha. It drives me mad.

No scores displayed at HT

No Sky Sports News on the Concourse (Bob Lord), it felt like Technology hadn't moved on and was better informed at the Orient game in 87

It felt wrong yesterday

No sound from the PA system in the JMU - AGAIN

Would have been nice to hear what Glen had to say during his interview at half time

Yeah, that PA system is a joke - and probably illegal (what would happen if there was a fire on the concourse and they were telling us to leave etc? I wouldn't hear a bloody thing).

A group next to me in the CFS, young lads, all jumping up and down a few times in the 2nd half for no reason. A girl in front of me was on facetime the whole game with her brother, a Leeds fan, so we knew when Brentford were "2-1 up" it was rubbish.

Some absolute idiots in the Longside Lower yesterday jumping up and down "celebrating" and actually arguing with me that Brentford were 2-1 up when I knew, from Radio 5 in an earpiece, that it was 1-1. Also saw the woman walking around the pitch signalling 2-1 with her fingers. WTF !!!

This is the same woman I saw and I was sat in JHU.

Understand people can get confused..I.e. if someone knows it’s 1-1 and then hears “Brentford have scored” (potentially from someone catching up)… but someone arguably linked to the club walking the full length of the pitch signalling 2-1 is something else….

I believe same thing happened amongst Liverpool fans yesterday as the rumour that Villa had pulled it back to 3-3 circulated.

Only takes one moron.

Trying to get on t’internet at Turf Moor is a joke. Absolutely pathetic. Why do phone companies ( I’m on EE ), advertise 5G, when inside Turf Moor you can’t even get 4G. Is there some kind of signal blocker or what? I was in AO Arena on Saturday night, 20+ thousand in and no issues. So it’s not a problem coz of amount of people trying to get on.

it's a problem at all grounds - it's a cluster of users all on their phones, all using data-intensive apps, and all vying for the same towers/antennas. It might look like you're connected with 4 bars, but the phone might actually not be communicating - the absence of "LTE" would signify this.

All that said, I don't know if TM has free wifi, but it's not a will-nilly project. The company I work for has done some major stadiums, here in the USA, Europe, Spurs and Etihad in the UK, and so on.... all base on providing the match-day experience to fans, which in turn provides all kinds of experience data back to the club.... These are $multi-million contracts - I'm not sure BFC is up for that currently

Is the a law or league rule forbidding us from having the Leeds score on one of the big screens?
