Not a very friendly bunch after the game yesterday. Most trouble I've seen at a home game this season. Young girl was spat at by one and a young Burnley fan (15 or 16) got a smack off one of them. Shame to see.

They’ll get their comeuppance when the political landscape changes re Saudi and they won’t have a leg to stand on.

They distinctly lacked class and my opinion of them has changed unfortunately.

Walking home we had the misfortune of the coaches driving past us up Brunshaw Hill. Usual hand gestures, crying mocking thing, middle fingers etc.... Just me and my 10yr old lad with obviously no baiting from us and no one around us.

Good and bad in all groups of fans. Every Geordie I met and spoke to were fine and pleasant, and even the banter over the CFS divide was good natured - apart from the old chap on our side who'd have been better off watching the game instead of shouting expletives for 80 minutes before he was ejected.

Sorry that some of your lot had to put up with that from some of our lot. Unfortunately there's a lot of wannabe hardmen amongst the young lads (and some people who are old enough to know better) who follow their teams across the country. Safe to say if they weren't safe in their big group, or behind the window of a coach they'd not be so brave.

The kids doing this might be too young to remember, or just have very short memories. We were relegated not so long ago and there was a great deal of pearl clutching at the joyful reaction from opposition fans to our demise. Take the mick in the ground, sure. But once the game is done, it's done.

That needs to be an element of ****-taking, it's not tennis after all. But spitting is feral, hurling abuse at a lone dad and his boy is pathetic.

Anyway, relegation is **** but the Championship is a chance to win a few games, go to a few grounds you might not have visited for a while and be at the other end of the rich list for a while. Good luck next season lads and remember, when you face Sunderland at the Stadium of Light, it's all right, you don't actually have to stay in Sunderland. We've got loads of hotel rooms round our way AND not so many people with more teeth than brain cells.

I don't mind the fans too much.....but that Wilson fella after he'd put the penalty in....running up to our fans. What was that about?
If we had stayed up and there had been a pitch invasion.... well I fancy someone may have floored him.

Thing is, why do they try and wind the fans up in such a game?
If it had happened, the talk would have been all about the fan, there would have been no mention of what Wilson had done 80 minutes earlier.

Wilson i think was responding reacting to the booing and gestures behind the goal before his penalty, not an excuse just my observation. Always had a soft spot for geordies, but there does appear to be a younger element amongst most clubs now that are bringing violence and aggression back into mainstream football, noticed it at our club also by the way.

Just rewatched the highlights.

He punches the air, salutes (as he always does after every goal) and then waves away the abuse from the fans, he's not even grinning. He certainly doesn't run up to your fans. The way you were going on I was expecting flicking the V's or whatever. But honestly... it's nowt.

As someone who stood on the Gallowgate when I was at Uni up there for a season (Ossie Ardiles as manager scoring and conceding goals for fun) I'm very disappointed that they have chosen to follow the Saudi oil cash, and with no exceptions, seem to think its fine because they deserve it because of Ashley

I'm never going to be comfortable with that I'm afraid and my fondness for them has disappeared as a result

I got to the game minutes before kick off. Some girl in her 20s, arm in arm with what was likely her severely disabled father, screaming "f*ck burnley, f*ck the lot of yas". That was the prequel for what was to come...

As I wrote on another thread I was surprised at their arrogance. Even at the Cricket Club before the game there was an undercurrent of aggression to such an extent that I didn’t bother getting a drink!

Was not there but attended the away fixture as I have for 2 or 3 seasons and found the Newcastle fans the friendliest I have seen at all the eighty odd away grounds I have been to.
Have no hard words to say about them
My favourite away fixture whic I will probably never get the opportunity to look forward to again

Here's the thing, fans are the same everywhere. Sound ones, knobheads and weirdos. Newcastle are no different to us, or Sunderland or anyone else. Maybe when they win the league in a few years they'll pull in quite a few of the Man City type tourists.

On our way down Harry Potts Way before the game we walked past four girls with Newcastle shirts on, of at a guess teenage age clearly inebriated up to the eyeballs..carrying a large bottle of vodka. They were effing and jeffing at everone they walked past. They were our side of their coaches and walking from the direction of the club shop.
The same set of girls were hanging around the exit from the cricket ground as we were making our way out. So unless they left early it didn't look like they had been on the game. Handing out more abuse to the leaving Burnley fans from behind their coaches on Belevedere Road.
Possible they had been denied entry to the ground with the state they were in.Amazed the police didn't pick them up as they still had a large bottle of vodka in hand.

Classy.

Can’t see what the suprise is ? While by en large Geordies are a decent no nonsense lot. They are however a rather backward primitive set of fans , often resembling drunken tramps or Glaswegians even . Few yrs back up at their place 2 fans were drinking pints of p1ss in a local boozer ( friendly lot though ) with quite some gusto it must be said .

You are completely wrong in defending Wilson and to say he was not grinning is a joke. I thought you were a reasonable poster but really you are either a **** taker or ill informed.
I was right behind that goal near the front and Wilson was seriously grinning and rubbing it in. Of course he is going to be put off but that is no different than he would get at any ground. He is not the paragon of virtue and victim you paint him out to be. Goodbye

no issue with them myself. some of their supporters were great, as has been said above, All clubs have a mixture. We are no different. I spoke to one or two who had to deal with them and the consensus was good. Unlike Everton who seem to buck this trend.

Thank you. I thought I was going mad. That clip does not show what happened. I don't know why. I am not used to sitting so close to the goals, but I did find his behaviour inciting. Smiling/grinning, finger to mouth etc. Given what's happened with pitch invasions, for this match, players should have been instructed, if you score a goal, head back to the centre circle.

My comment on Twitter immediately after Wilson scored the second: "cheers for busting a gut to get back and pick up Wilson, Charlie Taylor. Once a Leeds fan....."

It was an appalling piece of lack of effort defending when our Premier League future depended on matching the Leeds result.

We were trying to win the game by pushing the full back up. Tarky was with Wilson but decided to run away from him towards the ball leaving the biggest space in the world.
Taylor hasn't had his best season for us but not at fault there.

I don't get this last bit at all. Rather than telling the footballer to not celebrate, shouldn't the onus be on the fans to not break the law?

Footballers used to score a goal and turn around and walk back to the centre circle. His team mates nearby would come and shake his hand.
The way to stop all this could be, as soon the the team who have conceded get the ball back to the centre circle they can kick off, regardless of where the players are of the team that have just scored.

Come off it mate, footballers celebrating in front of annoyed opposition fans is hilarious (and annoying as f**k when its an opposition player doing it in front of our fans)

Its perfectly normal

Really? It was an emotive reaction to conceding a goal that effectively sealed our relegation, where our left back practically gave up on any attempt to deal with the threat from Wilson. Watch it back, he is gently jogging into the area as the ball comes in and his reaction when Wilson scores is one of a player that knows he was culpable. I don't see any accusation of anyone throwing a game in my comment.

It is, and I normally laugh it off too and take it all as part of the pantomime.

However, this last week has seen many acts of violence towards players and staff. The situation had the potential to be volatile. Plus I am never normally that close to and believe me it was galling to see the ecstasy in his eyes.

If fans can't control themselves when an opposition player celebrates in front of them then they need a new hobby
