Burnley v Hammers March 1963 video
Latest Clarets vid on YouTube from the Heavyroller. Nasty old day at the Turf, and a goal for Pointer on his 200th appearance

How very much better the commentary is with only one person doing it.
And the referee makes Jon Moss look fit!

The ref needed that bulk to get around the pitch!!! Don’t know who the commentator is but he sounds more like the guys on the mic from later years, rather than the plums in mouth type on some of the other Heavyroller videos

Opening remarks 'the pitch shouldn't cut up too badly', it was like a ploughed field when they kicked off.

I got over excited when I saw this. Thinking it was my first match ont’Turf but my first game was West Ham 12 months earlier, a 6-0 win and Pointer scored in that also.

I enjoyed that. Thanks. 1962/63 was the first season I went to Turf Moor. Not this game, it was a 4-0 victory over Fulham.

First game at Turf Moor after 'the big freeze', I think. Did an entrance exam for my grammar school in Salford and rushed it at the end so I could get the bus back for the match.

What were the players doing dribbling the ball round the opposition. It’s much more exciting these days passing to a colleague, receiving back from the colleague, passing back to him again…………Zzzzzzzzzzzz
Re: Burnley v Hammers March 1963 video
I think the commentator is a young Kenneth Wolstenholme.

Don't think it's Wolstenholme or Weeks. There was a programme called Saturday Sport around in those years, and I think these clips may have come from that show, although I haven't been unable to find out for definite yet. Obviously before the arrival of Match of the Day

Thanks Longside, just had a quick check and it looks like you could be spot on there.! It was introduced by Alan Weeks, the display of the teams I found was the same. Possibly it was Wally Barnes the commentator

I loved this bit
Moore went over the top but came off second best to Lochead

Yep could well have been Wally Barnes. He seemed to fade away as a commentator.onewillieirvine wrote: ↑Tue May 24, 2022 4:00 pmThanks Longside, just had a quick check and it looks like you could be spot on there.! Love the portly Referee blowing up and then strolling along to the incident. Very much in the background, only later when the likes of Clive Thomas come along did it become 'look at me'!
