Have a look at, say, average league position over the last ten years for a stat.

The nearest league club to Norwich is Ipswich which is at least an hour drive away , an hours drive from Burnley takes in Blackburn ,Preston Man City Man Utd Rochdale Oldham Blackpool and Wigan . Burnley does not have a monopoly in its catchment unlike Norwich hence the attendance differences

Won’t be if surprised Lowton is going getting towards end of career and will be on a big wage. I think Long will also go by end of August.

I'll be interested in comparing McNally with Kevin Long.Rileybobs wrote: ↑Thu Jun 30, 2022 8:34 pmYour post is so totally lacking in context. Of course it’s more difficult to bring in young players quickly and efficiently when in the Premier League because;
a.) young players who are good enough to play in the Premier League are few and far between, and;
b.) young players who are good enough to play in the Premier League will likely have better offers from better Premier League sides
Buying young players for relatively small sums of money may get us a competitive Championship team, but all of these signings are a punt. Getting the deals done quickly is an absolute necessity due to the number of players who have walked/been released. This may mean we’re being less careful and precise in our recruitment which again is a gamble.
Exciting, yes. But signing a bunch of young players that we know very little about is hardly a stick to beat the previous regime with.
We could have recruited younger "reserves" and brought them on... actually coached improvement in them, but that was clearly not our policy.

It would not surprise me if Lowton left for WBA. Must be hard on him. He joined us and had to initially fight for us position as he was injured at the start of that season and Darikwa was playing there in our Championship title winning season. However he broke through and largely made RB his position until the past season-albeit Bardsle got picked at times. He has been very consistent and a superb professional and servant. Must have been hard to see his position go to Roberts and I believe this frustration led to his sending off against his old club Villa. With the new crop of defenders coming in, and having lost many of his playing friends recently he must be wanting a move, and who can blame him. I hope if he moves its for the right club that can extend his playing career

Brentford over there last two years in the championship got most of there signings from the championship but they also did some great deals with clubs from la liga and bundesliga.
They spent 40m on players in there last two years in the champ.

Interesting that Kevin Long's name is starting to crop up on here. I'm not his biggest fan, but I initially felt he'd probably be more than good enough in the Championship and was tied on to muster our back 4. However, with Kompany coming in and us looking at younger, more ball playing type defenders, brought up with a completely different mind set, I increasingly feel Long may not fit in with VK's vision and may well go.
Re: Summer 2022 Burnley Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
I personally think Kevin Longs lack of game time has resulted in people remembering him more fondly than he probably deserves.
He's put some decent performances in as a back up no doubt, but I remember last time he was starting games for us in the Championship and he didn't look the best quite frankly. I think he will always be an understudy and from what I've seen of him and probably rightly so.

I'd be amazed if nobody came in for Cornet at 17.5 million. His goal return was outstanding last season, playing in a poor side.
Re: Summer 2022 Burnley Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
Agree with this and I'd add while he's not really done much wrong in his tenure here, he isn't the type of player that fills you with much confidence. He could slot in under the old regime for the odd game but in a more fluid attacking system he'd be a duck out of water..boyyanno wrote: ↑Thu Jun 30, 2022 10:17 pmI personally think Kevin Longs lack of game time has resulted in people remembering him more fondly than he probably deserves.

Re: Summer 2022 Burnley Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
Also agree with this. There are plenty of teams at the mid to lower end of the premier league who would be happy to pay that sort of money for a player that looks capable of grabbing maybe ten plus goals in a less rigid side.

The fact he hasn’t left yet makes me wonder whether the release clause isn’t true? I’m sure plenty would’ve triggered it by now otherwise.

The point i would make is that if a club allows players to "sit" and not push for a first team shirt and allow this to carry on season after season then the club will eventually struggle.Conroy92 wrote: ↑Thu Jun 30, 2022 10:19 pmAgree with this and I'd add while he's not really done much wrong in his tenure here, he isn't the type of player that fills you with much confidence. In the last 5 years or so we badly needed to buy in some hungry (cheap) young players who would have pushed the first choices.

I think it’s far more likely that Cornet will be a late window signing for someone. I think the release clause makes that ore likely. Go after other targets knowing there is a fall back position at a fixed price.
This might change if Cornet kicks off but failing that I’d not be surprised to see him start the season for us but be gone by the time the window closes.

He’s never let us down and he’s our fastest defender as long as it doesn’t involve turning but his reading of the game is poor and he needs someone alongside to organise him positionally. Certainly good enough for the Championship but perhaps not suitable to fit into the new way of playing. A perfect backup if he wants to stay with us thoughboyyanno wrote: ↑Thu Jun 30, 2022 10:17 pmI personally think Kevin Longs lack of game time has resulted in people remembering him more fondly than he probably deserves.

"Back-up" maybe in the case of players like Tarkowski or Collins have been, but not 10 year back up, it's not healthy.
Having said that I don't blame Kevin Long for taking what's been offered.

I disagree too. I think Long has put in the odd decent preformance when called upon very infrequently. But when he started games for us at this level he was poor and made errors. I think the fact he's played so little has contributed to people forgetting this but I've never particularly felt that he's been an ideal 3rd choice.SalisburyClaret wrote: ↑Thu Jun 30, 2022 10:46 pmHe’s never let us down and he’s our fastest defender as long as it doesn’t involve turning but his reading of the game is poor and he needs someone alongside to organise him positionally. Nothing wrong with Kevin Long. I hope the Yanks and Kompany so not trash years of team building, just because new and shiny seems like a good idea. We have some excellent players, able to play in the Premier League. Are Div 1, young hopefuls snd Div 1 up and coming players able to combine and take us up to stay in the prem? Doubt it. We need our experience.

We didn't have a squad of players that have played consistently at the highest level that time.
Now we're looking to call on their experience and add some exciting young talent into the mix.
Personally, I think with the incomings and if just Cornet and Weghorst go, we have the best squad in the league
It's all about who we can hang onto now.

I think Cornet may have been persuaded to give us 6 months by VK. And if it’s looking good maybe more. He’s the type of player that’s going to thrive in this setup in the championship.

He's got a 17.5m release clause and any team in the PL can up his wages. Re: Summer 2022 Burnley Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
I don't think it's realistic to think Cornet will stay. Clubs could easily see him as an option later in the window if their primary targets don't materialise. They know there's no obstacle to cross to get a bid accepted.
Re: Summer 2022 Burnley Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
I've read on a few Web site's quoting Cornet saying he will go if a big club comes in for him and the move is the right one for him, reading between the lines I'd say team's like Forest, Bournemouth Brighton and Brentford have no chance even if they offer 17.5m the release amount because its upto Cornet if he goes or not, but on the other hand if its a big move for him like Spurs or Arsenal he'd go but I doubt a top six team because of the amount of games he seems to miss would come in for him, so it's 50/50 if he stays in my opinionUpTheClaretsFCBK wrote: ↑Fri Jul 01, 2022 5:15 amHe's got a 17.5m release clause and any team in the PL can up his wages. That article is ridiculous. Nothing to back up the claim that Kompany wants those players, even quotes Kompany saying this.
Kompany added: “but, at the moment, I don’t think about getting players from Anderlecht.
"I don’t want to harm my former club. That is far from my intention.”
It's pure clickbait.

Burnley Express post loads of clickbait articles, not because they want to, their income for the site is based on advertising revenue and that in turn is defined by their impressions, monthly users and bounce rate. You can't survive as a news outlet without posting some clickbait stuff.
Example:

They post these ones all the time, and the rumours are always a load of tosh.

Chris Boden is the Sports Editor of the Burnley Express and therefore responsible for all sports related output online and in print.
Any sports related content is part of the publication's media strategy, ultimately created by him.
You can tell there is nothing in an article when he doesn't post it to his Twitter account.

I'd be really surprised if any top half team came in for Cornet - there are so many obvious weak points in his game and his fitness was also an issue (as Dyche appeared to predict). He produced some moments of individual magic in his early appearances but not much during the run-in.ClaretMov wrote: ↑Fri Jul 01, 2022 5:27 amI've read on a few Web site's quoting Cornet saying he will go if a big club comes in for him and the move is the right one for him, reading between the lines I'd say team's like Forest, Bournemouth Brighton and Brentford have no chance even if they offer 17.5m the release amount because its upto Cornet if he goes or not, but on the other hand if its a big move for him like Spurs or Arsenal he'd go but I doubt a top six team because of the amount of games he seems to miss would come in for him, so it's 50/50 if he stays in my opinion
If he isn't good enough for a top half PL side, then Europe could be an option. But 17.5 million is also quite high for him in the kind of European market that he is likely to find a home. So it may not be easy to move him on.

Yeah, I'd imagine he wants to go and that the club's ownership wants to sell him. I just don't think there will be a long queue of clubs (that he would like to join) putting in 17.5 million offers for him.

I know what you’re saying but being interested and actually going ahead and making an offer are light years apart. I mean, I’m sure Burnley would be interested in Ronaldo, but is that realistic? I would suggest that of those clubs who may be interested there may only be 1 or 2 who might take it further.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Fri Jul 01, 2022 7:04 amI suspect there will be at least 10 prem clubs interested
