Re: Summer 2022 Burnley Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
I think if Collins went to a PL club now he might play less first team games than he did with us. THe competition for CH spots with the majority of the PL clubs is quite fierce, unlike us, where there are usually at least 4 experienced CH's in the squad. Not saying he is not good enough but you certainly cannot afford a mistake if you want to keep your place in the team
Re: Summer 2022 Burnley Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
Potentially, I think he's gonna be a top 5-10 CB in the PL in 2-3 years. It's difficult to say who will be the best PL side in 2-3 years however, if Conte stays at Spurs I see them making huge strides forward. United are a bit of a mess atm, Chelsea new owners so who knows, Arsenal a very young side I dont trust Arteta. I think when Klopp leaves Liverpool, they fall back into mediocrity.

Wouldn’t disagree, although we were linked to Hendry with Dyche, which is pretty telling.Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Sat Jun 25, 2022 7:22 pmthe odd times I've seen Hendry he's been pretty rubbish

Egan-Riley fee £350k potentially up to £750k.
Re: Summer 2022 Burnley Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
Barely plays for Brugge, doesn't fit the young, develop, sell profile at 27 and little room for growth. Not sure what RV has seen to say he's class, he's bang average, worth noting Brugge also play 3 central defenders, he's 4th choice.Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Sat Jun 25, 2022 7:22 pmthe odd times I've seen Hendry he's been pretty rubbish
Re: Summer 2022 Burnley Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
If there's a Brugge defender you want, N'Soki is the man, 23 year old powerhouse. Came through at PSG and has caps for France at all youth ages. Plays left CB in a back 3, great on the ball.

Roberts now being linked with Wolves. Suggestions he wants to stay in the Premier League.
Burnley linked with Tom Hamer from Burton as a replacement. He’s out of contract, but £400,000 offer reportedly made to avoid a long tribunal.

Hopefully not true. If we’re planning to replace establish internationals with Burton players we need our heads looking at.
Makes no sense either, with Lowts and CJ reportedly signing.
Wish we’d stop being linked with defenders and sign the players we actually need - strikers & midfielders (Twine aside).
Re: Summer 2022 Burnley Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
Errr... We have one established left-back... The 2 most experienced centre-backs have gone... The main central defender we have left is very likely to leave... Roberts is very likely to leave...Wish we’d stop being linked with defenders and sign the players we actually need
So you don't think a defence that will have lost its goalkeeper, most of its central defence, a left-back and a right-back doesn't need strengthening?

Disappointing if true - Roberts is a no risk quality Champ operator.

I’d like to see how Roberts gets on for us in the Championship. But he looked absolute bonk at times in the PL so I really would be surprised if there’s any interested parties in for him at that level.
Re: Summer 2022 Burnley Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
P.S./edit - Matt Lowton is a lovely footballer in a David Eyres kind of way. Have enjoyed watching him but wonder if the relentlessness of the Champ is a step too far given his athleticism. Happy to be proven wrong.

Really cannot see how Roberts earned a move back to the PL. He had as many bad games as good last season. Even at his best he’s not going to improve many top flight sides.

Coupled with : he’s miles better bombing forward and under Lage Wolves don’t really bomb forward anymore.agreenwood wrote: ↑Sun Jun 26, 2022 4:54 amReally cannot see how Roberts earned a move back to the PL. And Hamer, I remember him breaking through at Oldham at 17 or 18 but isn’t he just a big unit? Like playing Duffo at RB. Not even close to the same type of player.
I think in the Champ Roberts gives us 10+ assists, easy. It’s his “I’m slightly too good for this level but not good enough for the Prem” level.

His best ever season he managed 7.

Echo what others have said about Roberts. Don’t see what he did last season to attract PL interest. Anything north of £10m and you’d have to seriously consider it, given we paid just 2.5m. Would have liked to see him in the Champ with VK’s system but maybe VK feels CJ Egan Riley is capable immediately.
Hamer was linked with Forest in Jan I recall. From the data he looks a very versatile player, can play anywhere across the back four, though it’s his defensive actions rather than attacking which stand out.

Don’t disagree, but there’s got to be a line where you stop letting players go unless the money is silly.RVclaret wrote: ↑Sun Jun 26, 2022 5:56 amEcho what others have said about Roberts. Our squad certainly needed an overhaul, but the extent of the player turnover is starting to feel a bit too drastic. It’s exciting in some ways, but hugely risky.

I believe Roberts said in an interview how he’d found it hard settling up in the north, had no mates, been ill etc. Now him and his mrs just had a baby / got married it makes you wonder if he’d jump at the chance to move a bit closer to home. Plus the obvious money side of things staying in the PL.
We’ll see what happens but if we lose both Roberts and Collins, I agree it’s getting too much, if it’s one of them I think that’s the limit (unless crazy money like you said).

I would say the Roberts we've seen play for Burnley has been 50% of the player you see for Wales. There's a player in there, just got to put him in the right team setup

Nixon has also said we have pulled OUT of the Ballard deal after securing other targets for the position.
I take it he means THB and Egan Riley.

Interesting. Maybe a positive in that Collins might be staying. I did wonder why we needed 3 cb signings if Collins was staying. City aren't loaning us THB to sit on the bench. Though he mentions Wolves are still trying on that front (Collins).Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Sun Jun 26, 2022 6:31 amHmmm that seems strange. Thought Ballard looked the best fit out of all three.
Re: Summer 2022 Burnley Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
Noticed yesterday Bobby Thomas has been given a new squad number (Number 16) maybe he’s seen enough of him to think he can be a solid back up for the main starters and spend the reported 2million quid for Ballard elsewhere. Time will tell I guess.
Re: Summer 2022 Burnley Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
Yes maybe Thomas / Bedeau have impressed Kompany this week
Re: Summer 2022 Burnley Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
I'd assumed Egan-Riley was seen as more of a wing back.
If we're ditching one of the three I'd have preferred to give up the loan for Harwood-Bellis. Ballard was the better performer at Championship level last season.
Re: Summer 2022 Burnley Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
Nixon suggests we want two wing backs, if we sell Roberts. Gabriel and Hamer mentioned. Egan-Riley is a natural CB that can play rb I think? He said Millwall and Sunderland want Ballard, interesting that it’s just lower table sides chasing him.

Re: Summer 2022 Burnley Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
I have been watching with curiosity as to what VK thinks of our U23 lads who let's face it, never got a chance under Dyche, but was that because they are not up to standard or because Dyche wanted experience. I agree with great post Jdrobbo made about our new ethos, and maybe VK has seen something in a short space of time from our young guns, and apart from Twine, he may fancy the likes of Helm, Costello, Richardson etc, and thats why we are not seeing many links for tye top half of the pitch. Who knows but the era looking bright already and we haven't kicked a ball yet.
Re: Summer 2022 Burnley Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
Maybe the guy who said Ballard had failed his medical might not have been far off at all.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Sun Jun 26, 2022 6:31 amHmmm that seems strange. Thought Ballard looked the best fit out of all three.
Re: Summer 2022 Burnley Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
Yeah, Egan-Riley's senior appearances have all been at wing back which makes me think his coaches have seen that as his long term position, maybe because he's not the tallest.
I'm hoping it's more a case of Kompany feeling Thomas/Bedeau are ready than us seeing THB and Egan-Riley as the better options than Ballard, because from what I've seen Ballard looks the better of that 3.
Re: Summer 2022 Burnley Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
Roberts looked really good when I've seen him play for Wales. His positioning in opponent's half, bombing and energy is important in their attacking build-up. He wasn't able to reproduce that for us, not sure if our system was not right, he plays with players who are not as good as the ones at Wales and so on. Would like to keep him, but if a good offer (10 at least) comes, I'd certainly sell. Especially if it has something to do with keeping McNeil or even Collins.
For me, Lowton can still do a job for us, although probably not in every game. He was decent last season and unlucky to be dropped.

Re: Summer 2022 Burnley Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
I kind of agree, in that he seems to have had a very good solid season in the championship so has some experience at that level. Though I suppose we have to trust those involved in the recruitment and rebuild process…. (that’s the hard bit)
Re: Summer 2022 Burnley Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
Roberts appears best as a wing back alongside a back 3. That’s where he shone for Swansea and does for Wales. Swansea fans said he struggled defensively in a 4. Interesting as we’d probably say the same.ervi34 wrote: ↑Sun Jun 26, 2022 8:12 amRoberts looked really good when I've seen him play for Wales. We've had enough players with permanent injuries over the last 3 yrs.Brady,JBG and Stephens cost a fortune for very little game time.If Ballard did indeed fail a medical perhaps its best we walk away
Re: Summer 2022 Burnley Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
To be fair to Egan-Riley , the last young defender we got from City playing full back as deemed too small to be a centre half , didn't do so bad in that role.

Regarding Ballard, I think we'll have to trust Kompany's instincts. If he thinks City lads or Thomas are better and cheaper at the moment, so be it. Truth be told, I doubt many of us have heard about Ballard until he was linked with us. It's also strange that his new destination could be Millwall or Blackpool, not exactly promotion candidates.

Turkish press reporting Besiktas are confident are securing Weghorst. They are negotiating a buy option within the loan deal.
