What's Collins said about wanting out? All I've seen is speculation about other clubs wanting to sign him, but I've not read anything about him wanting out. Anyhow, he's under contract until 2025.

In fact I shall repeat what I said to another poster last week.
If I ever think of anything that is really dumb...I say it aloud a couple of times...realise just how dumb I will look if I say it. Usually then delete my post and decide just to read for a little bit rather than let everyone see what an absolute weapon I am

As far as I'm concerned, they can all go providing they are replaced, mass exodus and reset is needed to progress. Am I supposed to be bothered if Taylor and Lowton leave? Lowton isn't first choice and Taylor has been rank bad for the last 2 years, arguably our worst player last season. Brownhill isn't PL quality, we've seen it, we want to be a PL club, we need potentially PL players.

I can see why we might let Cornet, Weghorst or even McNeil go but I’d be busting a gut to keep Collins, particularly. His value is going to rise far higher than any of the others on our books, in my eyes.KRBFC wrote: ↑Fri May 27, 2022 9:18 pmAs far as I'm concerned, they can all go providing they are replaced, mass exodus and reset is needed to progress. I get your point on Taylor but if it’s doable, I’d be looking to retain our defence, ideally including Pope, and build from a pretty solid base.

I think Collins will go right to the very top and I never said that about Keane or Tarkowski, he has the attributes required the other two lack. I think Roberts, Mee, Pope, Collins will offer a ton in the Championship. £30m+ and Collins can go for me. Of course I'd love Cornet and Pope to stay but I don't expect that to happen realistically, although I think Cornet would be better staying here for his career.DCWat wrote: ↑Fri May 27, 2022 9:26 pmI can see why we might let Cornet, Weghorst or even McNeil go but I’d be busting a gut to keep Collins, particularly. Re: Mass exodus!!!
If we start with the same defence next season it's a really strong base. Especially as you say if Pope is part of it. That defence has shut down a lot of top teams and would have been plenty good enough to keep us up if the midfield and forwards had done their part.DCWat wrote: ↑Fri May 27, 2022 9:26 pmI can see why we might let Cornet, Weghorst or even McNeil go but I’d be busting a gut to keep Collins, particularly. I agree that Cornet should stay for the sake of his career. He’s not quite the finished article for me. Year in the championship for us creating and scoring will do him the world of good if he had any sense

Re: Mass exodus!!!
Let's just keep our heads and see what develops over the next couple of months, some will move on, but we have to retain a solid core to allow a viable rebuild, if we get rid of everyone that's asking for trouble, firstly how on earth are replacing most of our starting XI, secondly if we change virtually the entire squad it's asking an awful lot of Kompany to get them gelling in a few short weeks.

There's plenty of players who would love the chance to replace them.

He's was also threw out to left back at Lyon, he said in an interview he enjoys the role at Burnley considerably more. There's no guarantee at another PL club he starts every week and starts in his wanted position. For his career he'd absolutely be better off staying for a year, not that I think he will when a nice payrise is put infront of him.

I genuinely think that Collins will, should we keep him, command a far, far bigger fee, in a few years. That’s kind of scuppered if there’s a release clause, if not, hold on to him and earn way more from his sale.KRBFC wrote: ↑Fri May 27, 2022 9:33 pmI think Collins will go right to the very top and I never said that about Keane or Tarkowski, he has the attributes required the other two lack. What did United pay for Maguire?
Re: Mass exodus!!!
I do agree but it depends on the fee we're talking about now. We need money for debts and a serious rebuild, I'm surprised most fans seem content with basically keeping the same players, I'm bored of watching these players honestly.
Re: Mass exodus!!!
Collins can’t be in that bracket - I’d be excited to see him develop further with us.
I completely get where you’re coming from with the style and some of the players, but that shouldn’t be including the ones that have massive potential.
Players like Collins are should be exactly what we want to be seeing.
Re: Mass exodus!!!
I agree with you on everything, I only said Collins can go because the big fee we'll likely get will go along way to rebuilding.DCWat wrote: ↑Fri May 27, 2022 11:35 pmCollins can’t be in that bracket - I’d be excited to see him develop further with us.

Re: Mass exodus!!!
It likely would, I just think that keeping him longer, if possible, may be a bigger benefit. We’d earn more from a later sale and stand a greater chance of promotion by having him in the team, this season.
If he makes noises to leave, I’d agree. Player power generally wins the day. I’m hoping he might at least give us another season and see from there.boatshed bill wrote: ↑Fri May 27, 2022 11:37 pmWhilst I agree about Collins, if there's a hint that he'd rather be off then so be it. Re: Mass exodus!!!
Most of the current players would be battle hardened for the championship which we need if we are to succeed.
We need younger players no doubt, but if Richardson came in with Dwight and Collins in the team then that might be enough. Maybe a young CM? We certainly can't play 7 or 8 youngsters at once.

Ignoring all the nonsense of which city players we can get on loan, there must be a huge benefit for Collins to stay and be coached by VK, at least for a year.

Re: Mass exodus!!!
There is always paper talk about teams being after the best relegated players but other teams relegated in the past have managed to keep some of theirs, Sarr at Watford being one. He was going everywhere when they went down. Norwich have only sold one or two but managed to keep other good players. Not sure if Fulham sold anyone but the lad they got from Bristol City is quality.
Pope said he loves it at Burnley so who's to say he doesn't want to stay. Every time I read about someone wanting him it is as backup. He won't want that if he wants to stay in the England team.
Same with Collins. Teams want his potential so is he going to play? Just broken into the National team.
They might leave but they might also think they are better off staying put for a season, or at least until Jan to see where we are.

Maxwell Cornet is about to turn 26 years old. He has over 180 appearances in the French top flight with Lyon, whilst managing to reach the Champions League semi-final. He has almost 30 international caps for the Ivory Coast.
Why on earth would anyone think he needs a season in the English second tier?
I'd love him to stay, but I can't see it happening.

We have to get smarter with recruitment-its not always about paying big fees.We were very good at it until around 3 years ago, that way if we are offered loads of money for someone we can at least consider the move. We bought some very good players in the early years( De Four), secured loans (Keane/Kightly)and free transfers (Arfield/Heaton/Barton).

Re: Mass exodus!!!
The problem was we always predominantly shopped in the UK market. This worked for us for several years, but towards the end of the last decade, that market got away from us and signings like Pope, Keane, Tarks which had been going for sub 5m, suddenly cost way way more. I long held the belief that while we were in the PL, the scouting network should have been expanded to beyond our shores, but this was in direct conflict with the stereotypical Dyche type of signings. This resulted in the conveyor belt drying up, the signings became signings to ‘get us through another season’ (old pros with zero resale value) and we are left where we are. ALK came in for me a season too late, but better late than never as we finally be appearing to shift our focus to the right markets and back to players who offer resale value. That’s not to say we don’t need experienced pros too, we absolutely do but the balance had been tipped too far towards this. Kompanys job now is to rebrand us, improve on the style, get that conveyor belt back up and running again and hopefully return us to the PL.warksclaret wrote: ↑Sat May 28, 2022 8:46 amWe have to get smarter with recruitment-its not always about paying big fees.We were very good at it until around 3 years ago, that way if we are offered loads of money for someone we can at least consider the move. If there is a mass exodus of contracted players it will be at a price that suits the club and recruitment needs of the new manager. Bigger reset that's all
