House v Burnley Worsley Cup
House made174/7. A good score considering it was a very slow start. 1/2 from first 5 overs..18/3 too.
Very healthy crowd too.
Burnley supporters must enjoy coming here more than the home games. Always seem to get more here than turn up for their home games against us.

They certainly don't seem to attract many. I've been to quite a few of the grounds and Burnley is one of the lowest attended. Norden don't get too many either.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Sat May 28, 2022 4:19 pmI’m told the ground is virtually empty for Burnley home games
Bit of a conundrum why.so many turn up at Lowerhouse claiming to support Burnley. With the grounds set up as they are it's certainly a different viewing experience between the grounds.

They make as much money as they need from the football fans.

That's true. Don't they have quite a high amount of members too? Though quite why when they don't attend is a bit baffling.Quickenthetempo wrote: ↑Sat May 28, 2022 5:32 pmBurnley don't need to make the effort Lowerhouse do to attract fans.

Re: House v Burnley Worsley Cup
It seems it’s all they are bothered about. Many years ago they were probably the best supported club but it’s always been very cliquish down there. Such a shame but they’ve concentrated on getting cars & away fans in for football matches while Lowerhouse have concentrated on cricket.Quickenthetempo wrote: ↑Sat May 28, 2022 5:32 pmBurnley don't need to make the effort Lowerhouse do to attract fans.

Close finish in the end
Re: House v Burnley Worsley Cup
Great win for the House but we still need to sort out the top end of the batting order.

Re: House v Burnley Worsley Cup
We are doing fine without having a settled top order though. We seem to find a different partner each week to open up with Ben. It can't be ideal but it's not causing any noticeable issues as i can see.
Re: House v Burnley Worsley Cup
It is causing issues, if you take out the sub pros runs we batted nearly as bad as they did. Not too bothered who opens with Ben but someone needs to get some runs regularly.Somethingfishy wrote: ↑Sat May 28, 2022 8:28 pmWe are doing fine without having a settled top order though. What about the first round of the cup? We didn’t struggle then. You can’t have a quality opening stand every week.

Re: House v Burnley Worsley Cup
I disagree. We got off to a very poor and slow start granted. Ben out for a duck was a blow. Joe Martin came in at 3. Often the number 11 but very capable with the bat but he made 0 too. After that I thought we recovered really well and the middle order supported by the pro did really well. Can allow Ben a bad day as he has been playing ok this season. The late wickets were as we started throwing caution to the wind as we stepped on the gas.
We only had about 40/50 at half way. Did you think we'd get 174 from that early position we were in? I certainly didn't. How you can say we batted poorly is lost on me.Burnley batted poorly and chucked their wickets away often needlessly.
Now at Greenmount last week we batted poorly and i'd have agreed with you.

He's looked at the Padiham score today, knocking 130 off for no wicket in 18 overs and thinks everyone should be able to do it.
You can't every week.

And, Burtons stumping of Charlie and how he caught our pro was world class. Another game without those chances taken and we’d have made 200Somethingfishy wrote: ↑Sat May 28, 2022 8:59 pmI disagree. Re: House v Burnley Worsley Cup
We played Rawtenstall who are near the bottom of the 2nd division. Greenmount 5 -30, Haslingdon 5-47,Norden 5-48, Ramsbottom 5-57, so the problem is not just who opens with Ben. So far the middle order and the tail have won us games can they keep going it.

The catch to dismiss our pro was remarkable. It had already flown over his head and he flung himself up and backwards to get it. Nick Pope would have been proud of it.

Don’t think I’ve ever seen a keeper catch a ‘flick’ over the keeper at that height. Credit where it’s due.Somethingfishy wrote: ↑Sat May 28, 2022 9:13 pmThe catch to dismiss our pro was remarkable. Just been watching a bit of Burnley on YouTube. Had Rammy at 94/8 but they got over 130 and just 9 down.

Re: House v Burnley Worsley Cup
Ramsbottom should have got no where near that total from being 94/8. Strange decision to persist with Tom Lawson and not fully utilise Fergus Bailey, our most economical and dangerous bowler. Burnley have struggled to gain maximum points in many games this season, which could be crucial at the end of the season. The league is wide open this year.

House all out for 217 in the last over...Todmorden win by 39 runs
A valiant effort chasing that total. The 3rd wicket partnership between Priestly and Bosisto did the damage.

Ben will be kicking himself putting Todmorden into bat on what proved a very flat wicket.

No shame in that chase, just needed someone to kick on after their start. 4th highest Lowerhouse score without a 50 in our history by the way

Burnley's batting, after the opening partnership was certainly a tough watch. Fully agree about the tea room though, best I've been in for ages. The Enclosure wrote: ↑Sun May 29, 2022 8:03 pmLovely ground Ramsbottom, and a great cafe. Was like watching paint dry Burnley getting the last 30 runs or so.

Agreed, Clitheroe are a pretty handy side but I would have thought Lowerhouse could do them on home soil.
