First of all, good for you love. Should be no reason whatsoever these days that you can’t be who you are in public.

Secondly, sorry Kelly but it WASN’T a secret. People have known for years, and it’s fine.

Always admired her as an athlete, that foto of her face when she realised she’d won gold is absolutely superb.

Hopefully this will send another message out there to folk who are struggling with bringing this into the public domain. Do it, it’s fine, it really is.

Good for her, personally I didn't have a clue but I've never bothered to dig around to find out who she's dating.

Rebel Wilson was forced to come out recently, a journo emailed her to basically tell her they were going to run the story so she broke the news first, which is utterly vile behaviour by the journo.

I make models, do I need to come out ?
I get the feeling that gays, the same as vegetarians, for some reason have a need to come out when , really, not that many people have strongly opposed views on it these days.

A person coming out is as much, or more, for their benefit as it is for those receiving the news. It's sort of irrelevant whether someone else thought they knew all along, it was a badly kept secret, or whatever. Coming out shouldn't be necessary ideally, really, but having the peace to not pretend can be a brave step and that journey, however long it takes, can be different for everyone I suppose. Fair play to Dame Kelly. And what an athlete by the way.

The torment and anguish SHE felt is surely what’s important here, not that most folk aren’t bothered… and in putting this out there she’s helping others to have the courage to do the same. People used to have to abuse people to their face and suffer the consequences…. Now it’s easy to do it behind a mask online, and people do it to who they perceive as easy targets.

Having said that, I think you’d probably agree with that, as I agree with it not being a big deal anymore to the vast majority of the non gay community. Come a long way in the last thirty years or so. Still some muppets out there, and no doubt we will be hearing about them trolling her in the next few days.

Yes, as mentioned above if someone famous hasn't come out there are tabloids willing to do it for/to them.

Hetro - no, because as you're aware it's considered normal.

Models - each to their own, not my thing, but well done for admitting it.

They are, they've been getting on with it and living their lives but sadly they'll still be targeted, abused online even if they don't have a social media account and in some cases physically attacked.

The famous people are helping to normalise being gay, trans, bi etc.
It's quite a big deal for a non-famous person to have famous people being open about their sexuality, it helps them to start their journey to coming out to those around them.

When someone comes out they run the "risk" of being cut off by family, friends and also aggravation at work.

Even now you, and others, don't understand why famous people are "feeling the need" to come out but they're not doing it for you, they're doing it for themselves and the millions of other people who're scared about being honest to their loved ones about their sexuality.

If you know someone who's gay etc, to talk to them about when they came out and listen to their story.

Brilliant athlete, represented us and the army so well, genuine person as has been alluded to on this thread it's how you are with others that is important not who you are. By doing what she has done she feels happier that will do for.me, my goodness she gave us some brilliant times watching her.
