Good point made by Nixon asking there the money is that we where willing to pay for O’Hare, Kompany alluding to funds but surely we have 8-10mil to spend on a striker
It's not a good point, because the window is still open, so it may well be spent soon.

might be a lot tougher though if lets say Southampton, Everton and Bournemouth drop. The Championship is very weak this season imho, I've not seen a stand out team yet (granted it's early days). I'd like the owners to see that and put up that little bit extra to get a ready made player, like an O'Hare.
Think this is true - we’re lucky to have come down with a pretty poor league overall.

Point I would make about other teams being demoted though, is that they will likely go through the same process & have to sell their best players and rebuild, so likely suffer that bit first year. We on the other hand would have gelled & hopefully have consistency.

We, rightly or wrongly (rightly imo) got our exits done early. I think we’ll now see Watford drop off - even if they replace very well, while the new players get up to speed. Plus I think we’ll see one or two others lose their best players and suffer accordingly.

If Churlinov trains Thurs and Fri I’d be tempted to start him in the Bastien role on Saturday. He’s played football this season so will be match fit. Tella wide right.
Another report has said that the medical will be in Paris tomorrow so i doubt that very much.

The Macedonian journalist who has been 100% right so far has that he arrives today for medical. Not in Paris.

I know we are going through a relatively tough time for us (compared to the rest of the last decade) but let’s not starting holding Watford up as some kind of model example of how to run a football club.

Bang on mate, it's my gripe this window. Just re-invest the extra bit on the 1-2 we need and we'll be a proper force. It's pretty simple, O'Hare transforms this team. The current front 4 Jrod, Brownhill, Vitinho, Bastien just is not good enough in many key areas (goals, directness, assists, dribbling).

A front 4 of Twine, O'Hare, Dobvyk, Churlinov looks incredibly more mobile, direct, bigger goal threat. Fluid, interchangeable.

You keep banging on about ohare, we have walked away for a reason , a proffesional reason. Please can you just understand some may know better than you, and are paid accordingly to do so.

Ignore the name and focus on the requirement and it’s a pretty fair comment. We need a ten, we need a striker.

There were reports we were still keen and would make a new bid on the Friday before he then got injured at the weekend

we can't be signing injured players, zero guarantee he doesn't continually pull his hamstring (like Owen used to do). We deffo need an alternative of good quality though and not a gamble (although all signings are to a degree)

Seems to me you can quibble about what happened with O'Hare all you like, but he remains the one proven Championship attacker we've been credibly linked with all window. It may well be that the reason we didn't sign him is that the value of our offers didn't get close to what Coventry wanted, rather than the injury. But it doesn't really matter. If we're serious about wanting a bid at promotion this season, it's hugely important we up the quality in the final third.

The squad is three players short - a centre forward to offer a nimbler threat than Barnes or Jay, a tricker inside forward, and a powerful centre half. That does in part reflect on the fact some of our business to date has been a bit speculative, and that may reflect a deeper point- the jury is out on exactly how seriously promotion is being targetted this season. That jury has 2 weeks until it returns - and the business end of the window is always likely to be when the bigger money moves happen. Hopefully, we're in amongst it.

Pretty sure the way it was being talked about at the time was;

- we made an offer which was circa £3m
- Coventry seemed to be willing to negotiate but wanted more. Circa £8-10m from memory. We walked away at that.

- We sold Cornet and McNeil and it was suggested that now we had some cash that we would/could be back in for him.

- reported he was injured and nothing more was said.

It was all speculation from what I remember

You are not wrong about the forwards but I think the CB situation, and selection, is more about tactics than lack of personnel

We've a few centre halves, but none have any great pedigree other than THB. Potential perhaps, but not pedigree.

We have had enough people on the treatment table during the past few years, to tell us we don't want to spend a significant amount on someone like O'Hare who could be out until Oct/Nov

Yes, but that could be said about most of the squad.
On the plus side, a season with Harwood-Bellis is great for both club and player... he looks terrific IMO.

Absolutely.

O'Hare as an example, we dilly dallied over £2m, money that should be available with all the outgoings and he'd make a huge difference. Promotion is much more likely with O'Hare than without (unless we sign an alternative not some cheap gamble).

£1m-2m faffing around for VK's number 1 target. Not good signs.

It's absolute peanuts when you consider how much he could be worth in 1-2 years, how much he'd contribute towards the club making with promotion.

Imagine if Garlick faffed around over peanuts when it came to signing Andre Gray, we absolutely wouldn't have gone up without him and earnt god knows how much TV income. We even sold Gray for double 2-3 years later.

We have had enough people on the treatment table during the past few years, to tell us we don't want to spend a significant amount on someone like O'Hare who could be out until Oct/Nov
On top of that, there’s the World Cup break so we would possibly be paying for a player that we may not see until at least January

I have no idea who you are, I was done with you first.

Alan Pace would stand absolutely no chance against the resident expert in football trivia, I don't care how many times he visited Barcelona.

No, not on top of that. It means there's a month with no games from 12 November which is extra recovery time and/or more time to integrate into the playing style. Putting aside the whole nonsense of the Qatar circus, it is actually quite a helpful break in the context of signing an injured player. Not that I am advocating we sign an injured O'Hare, I just don't agree with your point.

The Gray example doesn't prove that paying the price demanded, no questions asked, automatically means success. (Quite apart from what it does to the price of other transfer targets.)

I would imagine that if we had moved faster to sign O'Hare, it would probably have mean that we had a £10m player sitting in our treatment room with no prognosis of how serious his injury is, three weeks after it happened. Would that have made the difference to promotion? I don't think so.

Have you the links to how much O'Hare would have cost, how much we offered, and the evidence that he was Kompany's number 1 target?

That's an excusable reason that being the case have a plan B & move onto somebody else you don't put all your eggs in 1 basket, this strikes very similar to a MR Lansbury led up that same garden path.

We've signed 11 players. Lots of baskets there, in the nicest possible way!

Quite.

There were a good few windows where it did appear that all of the eggs were in one basket (perhaps even some windows where there were no eggs and no basket).

This definitely isn’t an all eggs in one basket window.

Some great rumours on this page. Usual suspects looking for a digital brawl. Quite tiresome.
