Nixon linking us to Metz striker Georges Mikautadze as well as Kouyate this morning.

Mikautadze appears to be a young lad who scored 9 goals in the Belgian JPL on loan last season.

Seen this. Looks quick on the clips from YouTube.

Also note Kompany said to the local press after the match he’s hopeful of adding to the squad this week.

If it wasn’t for permit issues we’d have Muleka through the door. That tells you all you need to know. Kompany is gunning for a ST and he will get one. The issue is it’s arguably the most sought after position at the minute, everyone wants/needs a new ST. Judging by the links/deals that’s have fallen through we are still after a CB, CAM, RW and ST as a minimum.

He’ll be known as GM if we sign him.

Reminds me of Danny Ings, low centre of gravity, quick, two footed.

From the stats Mikautadze gets in good positions, takes lots of shots, is an accurate shooter, likes to dribble but is a poor passer so not sure whether that would be a fit for Kompany's system unless he was purely there to finish chances.

Looks like he plays on the shoulder a lot to me, making those runs in behind. Would allow us to stretch play better than we were able to yesterday.

Costelloe spent most of the game making those kind of movements/runs but was ignored time and time again. Not sure that's the way Kompany wants us to play.

A fair number of goals I watched Anderlecht score from clips were from a forward player breaking the lines, latching onto a through ball.

Played as a number 10 and scored in Metz first game.

Must admit RV from what I have seen so far we playing differently to how he did at Anderlecht. Much more possession based and try break teams down. At Anderlecht it looked like quicker breaks and counter attacks.

Perhaps once he gets his signings in up front his tactics will change

Possibly. Though maybe that’s been due to the teams we’ve faced so far and options available.

Unsurprising given it's a completely different league requiring a different approach. Easy to think we can just easily break sides down in the way you suggest, but much harder to do that in reality as exemplified by Luton's shape and physical presence.

Tbh I think our current tactic of possession based football actually suits this league better.

Just need some more quality in the final third. Hopefully we can sign someone like Ohare and a striker then better chances will come along the way

I see United are looking for a new keeper and plan to send Tom Heaton out on loan. I'd be all over that if I was VK. He's not bad with his feet either.

I was just looking for that. Knew I’d seen the name somewhere, but couldn’t recall where.

Assuming Nixon is correct, “Brad Jones” must know something!

Anyway, not seen it posted here but VK said yesterday that “loads are close… & we are hopeful of a signing next week”

For this season I agree. It’s just slightly concerns me that the spine of defence on hopefully a promotion season is all loans.

As long as it gets us promoted I guess then we can build from there

VDB is an interesting signing. Another loan in defence. Assume Liv only allowing him out, like with THB, on the basis he plays. Clearly highly rated though and Preston fans said he was very good for them. But we could be lining up with THB (20 and on loan), VDB (20 and on loan) and Maatsen (20 and on loan) - like I said, interesting.

I'm confused with the Van Den Berg signing (I always assume Nixon is correct).

From what I gather, he's very much a right sided defender. Plays RB in a back four or RCB in a back three. Where does he fit?

He might have to at this rate.

Surely we’ve made enough now in player sales to make a real statement signing for a striker. Like we did with Andre Gray the last time we came down.

We'll have:

Lowton, Roberts, CJ, McNally, THB, Taylor, Maatsen and possibly the new guy from Liverpool. That's a lot of defenders to be carrying.

If you want to build up from the back as VK wants to, it seems essential to have the right defenders to do so

Kompany was very clear about needing 2 for every position - that is 8 defenders, we will have them if we sign VDB. I’m excluding Long here as I don’t think he fits the style.

Kompany was very clear about needing 2 for every position - that is 8 defenders, we will have them if we sign VDB. I’m excluding Long here as I don’t think he fits the style.
Lowton, Taylor, Long, Thomas, Riley, McNally, Bellis, Roberts, Vitinho, VDB that takes us to ten defenders for 4 possible positions
