I wonder if Stokes and Bairstow are going to go one day mode again to get runs on the board
You can stop wondering clearly they are going to play their shots.
Stokes 100th 6 in tests.

90-6 at tea, that was frantic to say the least, but England face a job to get anywhere near parity here, still 239 adrift, and the top order all at sea against the swinging ball.

If England are going to play Test Cricket like one day games then surely Buttler and Livingstone must play, starting against India in the next Test.

Crawley must be one of those in danger of being dropped, and Buttler could well be in line to replace him.
Who Livingstone comes in for I'm not sure.

He bowled well with the new cherry, but now the ball is older batting is becoming easier, which just shows how dumb England's top order were to gift their wickets away, see off the new ball first, then you can play your shots as Bairstow and Overton are now doing.

It's going to be a thrilling ride watching this England side if they carry on in this manner, whether the results will always come is another question, but it's gonna be an exciting time anyway.

I was one of those, but credit to Bairstow he's answering his critics in the best possible manner, 4 centuries in not many tests recently.
Worth mentioning Overton on debut as well, he's played his part in this counter attack.

264-6 at close, yet another stunning England fightback when in adversity, but NZ will rue letting England off the hook for the 3rd match in a row.

He's been sensational, and is ramming it down the throats of a few who think they know it all on here.
On the BBC website it says "Jonny Bairstow has more Test runs in 2022 than Joe Root. Only Usman Khawaja ahead of him."
Not bad at all for someone who often seems to be under pressure to prove himself.

368 runs in the day and 11 wickets, a complete contrast to yesterday, but that's why test cricket is so intriguing, you simply never know what any particular day will bring.

Completely agree! I honestly believe England will set the president for the new way test cricket is played and bring the crowds back to others nations

Yes, your expectations are going up/down/up during each day.
At 222/5 overnight you'd be hoping England can restrict NZ to not much over 300, but then at 320+/7 you'd be thinking 350 would be a minimum they'd post. Then Leach gets 3 and it's suddenly 329 AO.
England collapse to 55-6 and you think getting within 200 of NZ might be beyond England.
Now 264-6 you're thinking parity at least for England.
Who knows what might happen tomorrow though?

Bairstow got his 150, second fastest for England behind Ben Stokes.
Currently 295/6.

Just when you really want someone to get 100.
But he’s done brilliantly and the partnership was 241.

Might even get a 1st innings lead, which would be incredible considering where we sat yesterday.
Broad now getting in on the fun.

Yeah, only the one FC 100 hasn’t he? Average in the low 20s. He’ll rightly be disappointed he didn’t quite make it but should still be proud with that knock especially in his first test.

Had he done so he'd have become the first England player to score a century and take a wicket on his test debut since W G Grace.
And before some clever arse asks me if I was there when Grace did it
