Before Dyche arrived we were an established 2nd tier side and had been in the PL for 1 season. Nobody is arguing against the work Dyche did, to pretend we were historically some sort of tier 3/4 side is rubbish though.
Whilst I agree with some of your post. But genuine question and not meaning to cause insult, how long have you been supporting Burnley? It’s just that my memory is a little different to yours. When Eddie Howe left we were favourites for relegation (not his fault I know-we had to have a clear out) that season, and survived by a whisker . The following season we were favourites to go down. I remember us as a struggling championship side that had some success above what was expected of us. The rest of the time we were relegation candidates.

I'm not downplaying Dyche's achievements, just arguing against those downplaying the tradition and history of our club. We weren't favourites for relegation when Howe left, we were like 5th favourites for relegation. Absolutely under Cotterill we struggled, patched up team and STILL we didn't drop. 17 games without a win, STILL didn't drop to tier 3.

I'm proud of the club I support and it's history, I refuse to use the worst 7 years of the clubs existence to beat the club with and pretend we're some natural normal tier 4 nothing tinpot club. 4% of the clubs history was in tier 4, doesn't sound like our natural level to me.

Always makes me laugh how much people love to quote the orient game but no one ever seems to say, "remember the days when we won the league".
Probably because you have to be bloody old to remember that!

This was always my argument when people referred to the ‘orient game’.

I’m sure your proud, most of us are. Most of us remember the time when we weren’t the best team in Lancashire. I’m not having a dig at you when I ask how long you had supported the club, just trying to get a perspective on how you rate our success. From the 80’s till the 00’s we were lower division standard. Then we had some success, but sometimes flirted with relegation. Statistics will show, we finished 11th/15th or lower but they’re only statistical records. We sometimes were really lucky not to get relegated.
The reason so many of us are Dyche supporters is because he brought us a great many happy memories.
I know your not knocking Dyche at all . I’m sure should the worst happen, you’ll still be a loyal supporter.

My first season was the Ian Wright one so 99-2000. Although I don't have much recollection as a young child.

Rumour from a decent source. Rather than pay out Dyche in full, we are still paying him £110k a week. Is that visible in the accounts?

You’ve been luckier than me or some others on this board. Your Darkest days have not been as Dark as ours, which is good. I don’t wish any of those Darker days on any Claret. Over the last 40yrs it’s nearly 50/50 as being upper 2 against lower 2, I’d much prefer it be different but it isn’t. The last 21years we’ve spent over a 1/3 in the premiership. Dyche has been responsible for most of that. We have punched above our weight and it’s been brilliant kicking the shins of some of the big teams. I hope we do again soon.
I think the point I’m trying to make is that Dyche has made this club successful, and doesn’t deserve some of the derogatory comments that have been thrown his way ( not so much by you by the way), but to state Birmingham,Rotherham ect some of us older ones find insulting to our achievements under him.

I just go back to when Dyche's stock was at an all time high and nobody came for him. Rightly or wrongly, I think fans would rather see someone like Rooney walk through the door at their club over Dyche, its quite mad given both of their managerial achievements but the Pulis like tag really does stick.

Well I hope above hope that the same thing doesn’t happen to us that happened to Stoke when they got rid of him.
Tbh, I think it was time for Dyche to leave (at end of season) or back him heavily with players he wanted!

I'm not saying it's the case here, but people's "decent source" often turns out to be complete codswallop.

The time to back him with a competitive budget was every year he didn't have one, for 7 or 8 years.

Really believe if he did have backing during those years we’d be in a similar position to West Ham are now.

I thought he was given a substantial budget in both 2014 and 2015.

The "tiniest" of football budgets can legitimately called substantial.

Sean didn't often have a budget that would be competitive compared to our divisional rivals.

If it's all the club can afford it would be seen, in those circumstances, as substantial at the very least, wouldn't it?

If you believe that compensation fee, you will believe anything wrote in a newspaper. If another club wanted him, he'd have gone. Nobody came in for him.

To be fair to KRBFC he was very supportive of Dyche in the last season.

It was the past 7 years of success when he wanted him sacked.

The club has got another few weeks to the end of the latest accounting period, 31st July 2022. These accounts should be published by 30 April 2023. We will learn what they say in 10 months time. Maybe Sean Dyche will have another job before then.

Not quite true, I was supportive for the last few years, he was working with his hands tied behind his back for 2 years. I thought the transfer policy under Dyche was pretty poor and short sighted however, large amounts of money frittered away on poor ageing players with no resale value and dwindling ability. It's no secret I never liked the football under Dyche and hated the horrible tag it stuck the club with, hopefully we can shake that with a more modern recruitment approach and better football moving forward.

We played good football in the first promotion season.

The Championship year, barring the odd great performance, we just out muscled everyone by being bigger and stronger right across the pitch. It wasn’t pretty to watch but it was very effective.

I think the later stages of this season showed that there was no need at all for us to be so negative in our play.
Here I will take issue. I thought we played some of our best ever football in our last season in the Championship . For examplecBrentford away was just magical with Joey Barton producing a master class. Oh and a certain James Tarkowski refused to play for his club Brentford.

That was a tremendous performance, no doubting that but you’d be hard pressed to find 2 or 3 memorable performances in that 46 game season.

We went up as Champions but to suggest we played some of our best ever football is nonsense.

We were big, strong, fit, had Barton and basically bullied teams into submission. Hugely effective, memorable that we were champions and deserving of praise but it was far from beautiful

That’s pretty common in football isn’t it? It’d certainly be in our interest to do so to help with cash flow.

That said, I wonder if we’re now having to pay him and his staff less of a wage if his contract had the standard relegation clause in?

Happens at most clubs nowadays, and well into the past

Usually the club will offer to keep paying their ex manager the same monthly wage until the guy gets another job and, even then, make up his wages to the full amount if he is subsequently being paid less

Way back, Peter Reid was sacked by City and eventually got the job at Sunderland. For the rest of his original contract term with City they made up his money and actually were still paying him more than Sunderland were !

Nice job if you can get it

Also happens with players as an incentive by a club to move them on elsewhere

He was at Elton John recently - not quite Kasabian or The Havienda!!

An ex colleague and fellow Claret had a quick chat with him.

There’s me thinking blitzing the league and going 23 undefeated is good football

Fantastic results but it wasn’t great football.

The first promotion was better football.
