End of an era

Post by wilks_bfc » Fri Jun 24, 2022 9:03 am

With Pope now gone, marking the end of the “Trinity”, it got me thinking of when was the last time we had none of Mee, Tarky or Pope in the starting lineup for a league game?

We’ve obviously had 1 or 2 of the 3 out, but I’m struggling to recall them all being unavailable

I have checked each season, potentially could have happened in the 18/19 season due to Pope being out all season, it was a lot of games to check and I may have missed one.

But from what I saw since Pope made his debut in 2017, at least one of him, Mee and Tarks have started a Premier League game for us.

So the last time we had none of them available must be probably from the last Championship season or earlier.

It does mark the end of an era, but it shouldn't come as a shock given Mee and Tarkowski were both OOC, and Pope was always going to go following relegation.

I did wonder about Leicester away opening game of 19/20 season, but although Mee and Tarks missed that match, Pope did feature.

It's never happened since Pope made his debut.

From what I can find, the last time we played a league game without any of the three in the starting line up was on 2nd December 2014 when we drew 1-1 at home against Newcastle. Ben Mee came on as a sub. In the previous game, also a 1-1 home draw against Aston Villa, Ben didn't feature.

It feels like the end of an era with what looks like a lot if not most of our better players leaving
but then again.....

it's the beginning of another era with what looks like an influx of new and younger players.

Going to be interesting to see how many come in and how they adapt and perform
for us in the Championship.
