Age must come into this discussion.
Thought McGreal was immense: his communication is the best I’ve ever seen at Burnley…. so I’ll say McGreal and Cahill

They're all a product of their time and each was better than the one before him, more or less.
Davies, Caldwell, McGreal and Shackell were all excellent for us, but they utterly pale in comparison to Tarkowski, Mee and Keane. It's not even close, really.
Those of us that are 50 or younger now will likely look back in a few years and think that we've never seen a better set of central defenders and goal keepers than Mee, Keane, Tarkowski, Pope and Heaton. Maybe those of us who are 60 or under may even think it now.

I’d say Cahill and Keane as well. Special mention to Carlisle and Caldwell who whilst not being the best Iv seen certainly put on one of the best collective CB displays Iv seen in the play off final against Sheff United, simply outstanding both of them that day.

I thought John McGreal was terrific for us but he only had two seasons at the top level.

Cahill and Collins, assuming Collins is allowed.
