Glastonbury 2022
I can’t understand a word they are saying/singing, the lyrics don’t make any sense, have the ‘audience’ been given a special ‘like everything however crap it is’ tablet?
Or maybe I’m just getting old?

Re: Glastonbury 2022
Other than the Bond theme she did I have never previously heard Billie Eilish's stuff. Based on this incredibly dull performance I won't be rushing to listen to it again.
First Aid Kit were great and I'm looking forward to seeing Idles set which has had some good reviews I see and should be pretty mad.

I’d rather watch Billie Eilish than the usual Coldplay/Muse/Kasabian dross that seemed to headline every festival for about 5 years

Horses for courses - I’d rather see Sasha and Digweed’s sets but there’ll be none of that shown, I’m sure.

It was something a bit different.
Having said that, genuinely can’t wait for the 80 year old Paul McCartney tomorrow!

I thought her set was absolutely incredible, especially for a 20year old kid, on her own. Not my music but still incredible
I’d rather listen to the bin man drop a fart than hear Coldplay, Radiohead, U2

The last time I saw Paul McCartney (on TV admittedly) was at the Jubilee before this one. He was truly terrible, to the point that I felt sorry for him.claret2018 wrote: ↑Fri Jun 24, 2022 11:36 pmIt was something a bit different.

I can’t see that another ten years will have done anything other than see his talents deteriorate further.
I hope I’m wrong and he does a cracking job. I don’t hold out much hope though.

There's a group on now called the foals.
Needless to say they are VERY popular in Blackburn. Apparently a couple of them like the band asxwell.

Excellent coverage on I Player. Just watched Sam Fender (can’t wait to see him in Manchester a week on Wednesday), Crowded House and St. Etienne.

Superb coverage on iPlayer. Have enjoyed Blossoms, Sam Fender and Foals in full this evening, and now seeing what all the fuss with Wet Leg is about - jury is out on that one for me at present, but am sticking with it...

I couldn’t even name a Billie Eilish song and had never heard anything by her so was expecting to be blown away after all the hype beforehand.Turned over after 3 songs,Her and her brother have done fantastic to market and sell that.

This is the laziest, ignorant comment you can make about music.Bin Ont Turf wrote: ↑Fri Jun 24, 2022 10:37 pmThe music in this country nowadays is absolute dog ****.
There’s so much good stuff released every year, and I guarantee there’s something released in the last 6 months you would love.
The thing is you’ve got to look for it, actively seek it out. It’s never been easier or cheaper to do so, but it still takes time and effort.
If you only listen to what’s played on commercial radio then you might think modern music isn’t for you. But there’s thousands of albums released every year, so the chances are there’s something for you.

Re: Glastonbury 2022
Agreed. There's loads of good music around today (there is a lot of dross too of course). I've been listening to live music for 50+ years and still finding best part of 50 (non-retro) gigs per year to get to (and really enjoying most of that). I'm just as entertained by music today as I was in the 1960s/70s.claret2018 wrote: ↑Sat Jun 25, 2022 8:58 amThis is the laziest, ignorant comment you can make about music.

Unfortunately there is a lot of very mediocre stuff played on radio/lauded by popular music commentators but plenty of great stuff amongst that and just below the surface (as it were).

Have found myself paying much more attention to support acts than I used.
Recently took a punt and went to see Altered Images at HB Trades Club. Fantastic night, enjoyed it beyond all expectations, and found myself buying the support band's cd by the time they had played three songs.
The Metatrons, they were called. Another good one was a french band, Off Models. You can find them both on Bandcamp

Re: Glastonbury 2022
The problem with modern music is that on the one hand you have the likes of Plant and Krauss supported by elite musicians playing sophisticated and re-interpreted classics from a 50 year back catalogue with a great musical knowledge in genres as diverse as bluegrass, country, rock and blues.
And on the other hand, you have bands with a couple of albums playing root chords on Fender strats...!
Of course, I don't want to sound like a snarky old fart pouring scorn on the best efforts on those wet behind their ears; however, if the flat cap fits.... etc!

Re: Glastonbury 2022
We used to play a couple of SG cover songs in a band a long time ago and they were very fun to play (despite being a bit too 'pop' for my liking)
Re: Glastonbury 2022
What is wrong with a Strat? Been in use by "elite musicians" for over 60 years! Power chords are part of the rock genre, but check out Guilmour, Nile Rogers, countless others and, as I said, Khruangbin to see what that guitar can acheive.

Re: Glastonbury 2022
Some good comments on this thread, but by god we do have some right old stick-in-the-muds on this forum. Even my mum and dad, in their mid 60s, still go to watch up-and-coming bands at the venues like the Trades Club in Hebden Bridge and the Brudenell in Leeds.
I went to see Dry Cleaning early on this year - they are a talented bunch and tight as feck. No doubt someone, who hasn't bought any new mucic since the 1970s, will admonish them for not playing a half hour self-indulgent guitar solo with a violin bow.

Re: Glastonbury 2022
I was being a bit tongue in cheek and I've listened to Khruangbin and they are not too bad.
Nile Rogers and Bernard Edwards were both session musicians and excellent players. They also have a 50 year catalogue and Rogers has written and produced music by some of the greatest artists on the planet.
No offence, but you can't compare Khruangbin to Chic. And Dave Gilmour doesn't play power chords. I've had to go and sit in a dark room and pray to the Gods of rock n' roll to forgive you for such assertion.
Well he might have played one or two when he couldn't be bothered thinking of anything else.

Went to Kings of Leon at Dublin Arena last night. Never caught a word of what he sang but a fantastic show. There’s no singing in classical music but millions still listen and enjoy.
