Haven’t heard anyone speak about Inhaler yet. Their set was brilliant. Great band on the rise which I’m sure would appeal to people on this board. The lead singer is the son of Bono from U2 and has a great voice
My eldest is a massive fan. She saw them supporting The Killers recently. Brought me a copy of their album over, I’ll get around to a listen later today. Yes I still get hard copy over download, old man syndrome.

I'm 20 and I have it on vinyl! There is something about owning a physical record which feels nice. Vinyl records growing popular with the youth of today it seems. It's a very strong album, hopefully you like it!

That replacement lead singer for Kasabian was on fire when I saw them at Knebworth with LG.
Seen Kasabian a few times with Tom as lead singer. Not sure what to make of them with Serge as front man....

I can't work out whether this is trolling or pure ignorance.
How can you accuse someone of trolling or ignorance after making a snarky post about Jimmy Page and his violin bow.

The original point was a serious one. The problem for the younger bands is that they don't have a forty year back catalogue and decades of musicianship.

How can you compare Billy Eillish to Paul Mc Cartney.

Of course, Billy Eillish leaves me cold she isn't aiming her music at people like me and, of course, I think her music is sh*t because she's 20 and hasn't learned her trade over decades at the feet of some of the greatest musicians who lived. Keith Richards wasn't Jimmy Hendrix when he was 20 anymore than Jimmy Hendrix was...! or Duane Allman or Ry Cooder.

What's the point of getting old if you don't learn anything or just watch some derivative sh*te that isn't as good as the original. There has to be some benefit to bald heads and bushy nostrils other than a buss pass.

And when I talk about learning licks from the burning fires of hades on the tale of the devil: I'm being entirely serious in the same way as Tenacious D is.

And I never ever criticise other people's musical tastes..... other than The Window Cleaners who are totally sh*t obviously....!

Eh? I didn't compare anyone to Paul McCartney and I most certainly wouldn't because I greatly admire the man.

As for the rest of your screed; well I didn't read it because if you have to lie in order to get attention, then you're clearly not worth bothering with. So save yourself the bother, and don't quote me in the future because I won't respond. I can't stand attention-seeking liars.

I didn't quote you. I said my original point was that younger artists haven't got the back catalogue that older ones and I used the example of Plant/ Krauss. On reflection, I thought Mc Cartney and Eillish was a better example.

I only quoted the fact that you had made a snarky comment about Jimmy Page and his violin bow.

And I will most certainly quote you if you say something interesting, but it may be some time in coming.

And now I'm going to flounce off too "you you you over reacting, hyper sensitive person you...!"

Never seen Elbow live before. Thought they were superb with a great response from a knowledgable audience.
They're a great live band. Managed to see them at the night & day cafe in Manchester, along with around 200 others last year. Great musicians..

You know they had a good mix of Pyramid stage headliners imo

One for the kids, one for the oldies, and one for the Rap / Hip Hop heads

Its not supposed to be for everybody, but there was something for most people across the festival im sure.

Had they not requested too high a fee im sure Fleetwood Mac might have been there.

The standard seems to be gradually getting worse as, no doubt, the profits get bigger

To be honest, they are running out of traditional big headliners.

Most of the huge bands have either done it or priced themselves out if you look at the bands that fill out stadia.

Rammstein would be interesting, but i can't see it

Just because you're not a fan doesn't mean the standards are getting worse.

Friday night was the biggest pop star on the planet right now, Saturday night was one of the greatest songwriters in musical history and Sunday was potentially the biggest hip hop star going. It doesn't get much bigger than that.

So assuming the same model, i guess you could see in 2023:
Ed Sheeran or Adele
Coldplay
Eminem

Which tbh does nothing for me, but its 3 big acts

Unfortunately, if it's artists that some don't like they use that to say the standards are getting worse. Did the headliners on Friday and Sunday do anything for me? No, but it doesn't mean the standards are lowering. That can surely only be labelled at Diana Ross and her inability to sing in tune.

You could argue someone like Nick Cave could fill the headline slot but he'd likely do so on one of the other stages.

I wonder who would be people's realistic 3 glastonbury headliners for next year?

The Wurzels
Aqua
Lancashire Hotpots

Seriously though...I wonder if Kate Bush would be tempted? Her stock has never been higher but she would be incredibly difficult to persuade I'd have thought.

Glastonbury is essentially a non-profit event, the money raises goes to various charities. That’s why acts take a big pay cut to play there, especially the headliners.

Next year I could see Taylor Swift (she was meant to headline in 2020), maybe Arctic Monkeys again? It depends who’s touring at the time and has new material out.

What an amazing week again at Glastonbury!
Absolutely packed full of people having fun to every genre of music, in the sun hallelujah, the value for money is brilliant. As always there were a number of people from Burnley floating about.

Not massively into bands but saw loads of great sets; Foals, IDLES, Blossoms, Noel, Sam Fender, Jack White, Jarvis, seeing a real life Beatle at 80 still smashing a long set of belters and more that escape me!

The only bum note was Diana Ross, which I was looking forward to, she was teuwley terrible. It was bad karaoke, because her mic was so low to cover her singing there was no crowd interaction because you couldn't hear her speaking - had to walk off. Which was fine because we caught Fountaines DC on the other stage.

Then the bits you don't see too much in TV; the circus and theatre field, the markets (food, drink, tat and music from everywhere), the Park, the political stuff, the green fields.

As a dance music fan the place is unreal, from Wednesday to Monday the place throngs with beats and production out of the world.

Have you any good tips for getting tickets? I’ve tried loads of times but never managed to get through to the front of the queue!

The shear size of the festival now, plus the changing demographic of the audience means the number of potential headliners is dwindling. They need to be able to pull a 100,000 crowd which means you're looking at the very biggest bands, pop & rap acts or legends.

Gone are they days of Carter USM and The Levellers headlining while thousands of crusties climb over the fences.

The 'biggest' headliners aren't necessary at all as the festival isn't really about who does the 3 nights on the pyramid and will sell out regardless. The standard is as high as its ever been.

It's pure luck! I have never managed to get a booking page, you'll probably do these things already but...

Get into groups of 6 for the first sale, everyone commits to trying, everyone has the post code/reg number for everyone in the group on spreadsheet/paper. If you have more groups of 6 the better, once your group is successful then everyone moves onto the next group - so your chance of a booking page increase.

Bank details on shortcode, saved on phone or spreadsheet.

Only use one browser per IP address, so one chrome/explorer not multiple tabs, mobile off WiFi.

Once you get the automatic refresh page
/holding page which refreshes every 20 secs - keeping knocking on the door, don't wait... F5/refresh until the door opens. If you get a booking page and it freezes you can press back.

Finally apply from Liverpool, the scousers seem to have lots of success! Only DnB is more represented at the festival than the scousers :D

Fingers crossed for next year

You've said it's pure luck and then gone on to explain why it's not purely down to luck.

Great advice there for getting tickets above.

It's absolutely incredible but my advice to anyone considering is to be prepared for exhaustion in equal measure with the exhilaration. I walked well over 150 miles over the last 3 Glastonbury's, often in relentless heat. A lot of those miles done whilst getting in and out of the site with all the camping gear, clothes, food and drink etc.

In fact, just don't bother going because if quite like to get tickets again next year 👌

In a seriousness, another option is to do a few shifts down there as part of the crew and get a free ticket and crew camping etc.

You're right but you know what I mean :D

I should have mentioned the volunteering option: 3 shifts of 8hrs, different charities operate differently but usually two over fri/sat/sun. Bar work, stewarding on gates or car parks, the superstars doing the toilets (major respect) you get help with transport, crew camping with showers and 1 meal a day. Also you go down early and have the chance to go in the crew bars, get wrists bands for some which help with entry over the weekend and meet loads of nice people. One of our friends had Thurs 7pm-3am Stone Bridge Bar, Fri day and Sat 11am-7pm...brillaint shifts and people usually swap to see their main acts if needed.

Another option is glamping if you have the money, cheapest I know is £3k for 2 people. Off site hut, ticket and Land rover transfer into the site and out each day.

My other friends work a food stall but you only get limited time in festival but get paid.

My first ever Glastonbury this year despite being mid 40s. Was an amazing experience. Nobody should be cynical about it.
Was walking 20 miles plus a day. Calves still hurting now.
Definitely want to go back. Was better than I thought it ever would be.
Done loads of smaller festivals but nowt on this scale. Saw so many acts.

Just watched Khruangbin's set on I player. It completely blew me away and I was expecting big things. Absolutely sublime. Highly recommended for anyone with the slightest interest.

Was fully intent on seeing them there until my mate realised who Paul Heaton and Jacqui Abbot are and we went along for some nostalgia instead.

No regrets about decisions like that. You've just got to let Glastonbury guide your way sometimes or you can end up chasing the festival as I put it.

Any other standout sets anyone can recommend watching back? I'm gonna be watchibg as much as possible over the next few weeks.

BICEP Sunday evening, even if you're not a massive dance fan the visual were impressive. Similar to a CHEMICAL Brother's level of production

Watched this on iplayer - incredible, very impressive. I was at Glasto in 2016 when Chem Bros played the Other Stage, the production was insane.

BICEP already on the watch list. That's another set I considered but ultimately opted for Petshop Boys instead as they're an act I'd never see otherwise. Imagine I'll catch BICEP elsewhere at some point.

Chemical Brothers recent Glastonbury shows have been legendary. If BICEP came anywhere close to that then they smashed it.

Just watched Khruangbin's set on I player. It completely blew me away and I was expecting big things. Absolutely sublime. Highly recommended for anyone with the slightest interest.
Love Khruangbin’s music - so different and such a vibe.

Never seen them live but this set at Glasto is so good.

Watched Bicep and Metronomy last night. Metronomy were excellent and due to how easily I could have watched them not doing so goes down as a bit of a regret. Comparisons between Bicep and the Chemical Brothers entirely justifiable in terms of the visuals but the Chemical Brothers have the better music for me.

Metronomy were on my list to see down there but missed them too. Have seen Bicep before so happy to have watched Kendrick. Can't see them all.

If anyone is curious about the genre and hasn't dipped their toe in, specifically the UK scene boatshed bill mentions (which sounds nothing like the elevator music you have in your mind when a lot of people think of jazz), I'd recommend as a great entry point literally anything by Shabaka Hutchings (Sons Of Kemet, The Comet Is Coming), Moses Boyd, GoGo Penguin, Ishmael Ensemble, Ezra Collective, Portico Quartet, and if you can, try to watch it on YouTube, rather than just listening on Spotify, because jazz makes more sense when you see it played, trust me. You want to see the interaction happening.
Thanks for posting these some good shouts actually. I have come across a few of them but the problem is there has been over 60 years of this kind of music from Ornette Coleman, Miles Davies through Herbie Hancock Acid Jazz etc but yes some interesting music here

The Comet is Coming - 2022

Ornette Coleman - 1961

On the latter album is Coleman the likes of Freddie Hubbard and Don Cherry some of the best players in Jazz....

Alto Saxophone – Ornette Coleman
Bass – Charlie Haden, Scott LaFaro
Bass Clarinet – Eric Dolphy
Design (Album Design) – Loring Eutemy
Drums – Billy Higgins, Ed Blackwell
Trumpet – Freddie Hubbard
Trumpet (Pocket) – Donald Cherry
