Didn’t Ollie Watkins start out as a winger in the lower leagues?

I wonder if we have the same vision for Twine, turning him into a striker eventually.

I don’t admit to having seen much of him but from what I’ve seen he doesn’t look like a striker. Yes, he scored a lot of goals last season but many of them were long range strikes and free kicks.

I hope we will be bringing in a striker. The current crop have/had injuries recently and 2 are getting on a bit now and may not fit how Kompany wants us to set up. Vydra may be OK but he's out for a while and Richardson is guess work as to whether he's up to it or not. IMO we definitely need to bring in a striker.

Edit that's if Twine isn't starting as a striker.
Yes, agree we still need a striker. Don't know much about Twine but I don't think he's that.

I think he has played as striker at MK. Not 100% sure but may even started up front in his last game for them. Either way he may have potential to play as a striker. Lots of players find new positions while they are still finding their feet in the game at a young age.

Probably not but if he's versatile then it's all good.

Someone who can hit the target regularly from distance and free kicks is a good addition.

An interesting look at Twine’s underlying data from last season - aside from the headlines goals / assists.

I was commenting on his position which is why it was a reply to another post. It was not whether he’s a good addition or not.

No doubts from the above stats he is not a striker, he sets up the striker with cunning passes and shoots himself from range. Very few touches in the box for example. That’s totally fine, but we may need a mobile striker too if Cornet is off.

Definitely interesting - suggests a central role ie attacking central midfielder rather than out wide

Goals and assists
Scotty Twine, Scotty Twine, Scotty Twine
He doesn't miss
Scotty Twine, Scotty Twine, Scotty Twine

There is no one outplaying him
Thats why we're paying him
Banging in goals all the time

All through the game
Scotty Twine, Scotty Twine, Scotty Twine

Obviously we wait to see what system VK uses but if it’s the same as what Anderlecht used last season then I see Twine playing from the left. Kompany’s wide men drift quite narrow in between the lines. Interestingly, here are the heat maps of Refaelov (Anderlecht left sided player) and Twine last season (Twine 1st Refaelov 2nd) - quite similar:

Interesting information again but I don't think they are that similar. The second cleary dominating the left whereas the first more central. As you say it will be interesting to see how VK deploys him and I suppose our squad at the end of the transfer window will have a bearing on that eg McNeil.

Finally someone who can score a free kick.

Fantastic signing. First of many hopefully!
Maybe it will put an end to my comment every time we get a free kick near the penalty area. Which will it be, wall or row Z?

Appears to be a good signing on paper.

Let's hope he makes the step up successfully and can help us step back up to the PL.

You're not supposed to make rational sensible comments on these things. :) :) :)

Of the players mentioned so far this was the one I felt would be a very good signing.

Seems he plays in the area of the pitch we have been badly lacking in quality for a long time and the Championship is a less daunting challenge for him than the Premier League probably would have been.

Yes, an exciting new signing !

For MK Dons in a 442 he's played up front

In a 352 he's played up front

In a 433 he's played up front on the left of the 3

So I'd say he's more a striker than attacking midfielder or winger

You know more about him than me - didn’t realise he was a striker and I thought he was an attacking midfielder. But that's good news as he will certainly give us something different, although I accept my knowledge of him is very limited apart from reading his stats.

To be fair he has played cam, left wing and striker for MK. Whether that's been due to injuries or trying him out on the odd occasion. Whatever the case it means he should be comfortable in different positions should we need to adapt to opponents before hand or in game. Which is brilliant trait to have.

Quote from him last season

"I think my best position is a No 10. I would've said striker two years ago but I'm also more of a No 8 now, where I can roam into space and try and hurt the opposition. I think that's where best suits me."

Absolutely. From the little I’ve watched he has an eye for a pass, an eye for goal, a little floating on his feet to create space and can ping a free kick in however he certainly does not have the rhino hide to keep the ball and roll the opposition this way and that…

Kompany mentioned it numerous times in his own press conference upon being appointed and he mentioned it again in the Scott Twine video when they introduced him to Alan Pace.

Just seems a bit too scripted.

Kompany mentioned it numerous times in his own press conference upon being appointed and he mentioned it again in the Scott Twine video when they introduced him to Alan Pace.

Just seems a bit too scripted.
Not sure what else he's gonna say on appointment but can't see anything wrong with the manager saying it's a great club with great people - at worst it's harmless.

He probably should be said "we've got a club that has moaning nitpicking fans" at every opportunity 🤣😉
