Absolutely over the moon with this - I saw him against Plymouth last season and thought he looked a real talent.
Great first addition to the Kompany era - onwards and upwards.
Exciting time to be a claret!

Thanks and I've added them. So much more difficult outside of the Premier League to keep up with them all.

Great signing. He stood out as a class apart for the Franchise against Wycombe in the televised play off home game and his free kicks are JWP quality watching the videos. Isn’t it great to be making big early signings rather than the usual last minute stuff. I guess it shows we do carry some clout at this level.

Howe would be more in the Kompany mould, capable of spotting a good young player, and then developing them.warksclaret wrote: ↑Sun Jun 26, 2022 12:06 pmWe have seen it in the past-Cotterrill, Howe and Stan. THey may have had their shortcomings but were brilliant at selling the club to the player
Cotts and Stan preferred to go down the old pro route, but all 3 did well given the various circumstances when they took the reins.

Appears to be a good signing on paper.
Let's hope he makes the step up successfully and can help us step back up to the PL.

Not at all.
He said “VK can convince half those being rumoured to sign, then he has already justified his first years salary”
What have I misunderstood? This is a results business.

My bet is CJ Egan-Riley then Harwood-Bellis.

You’ve missed the point that it’s pretty likely Kompany has been brought in to the club to help us attract players.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Sun Jun 26, 2022 12:28 pmNot at all.

Of course it’s a results business and him getting the players to perform is absolutely going to be the challenge that he will ultimately be judged on. The post you’ve referenced though was blatantly (slapped round the face with a wet fish obvious) referencing the selling the club element of Kompany’s role.
Just try taking things as they are rather than trying to infer that they meant something else - usually when you do this it’s a negative slant that results in two pages of tit for tat nonsense, which I think this board can do without.

Ok review his point. Has Kompany justified his yearly salary recruiting players?

Re: ARTICLE: Twine unravelled
One unacknowledged advantage of getting deals done early for cracking young players is that it may persuade some of our best players not to push for a move, Collins for example. If they feel confident we will go back up they may at least leave it until January.
Currently I feel we are one holding midfielder and striker away from being the best side in the league (assuming MC and WW both depart but nobody else). So I don’t feel we are far away, last season we were miles better than Watford and Norwich and they are among the favourites this time.

If you know a poster is on the wind up or you know they'll keep banging the same drum for 100 posts/be negative on purpose then just don't reply or ignore them.
Any way great to see the positivity from 99% of the board and seems like, for once, it will be an exciting window.

Am I right in thinking he is a left-winger/forward?
Just seeing so many 'right position' type comments, but he sounds like the Cornet/McNeil position - and neither of them have left yet.

Left footed Central attacking Midfielder who can play in a number of attacking positions, including both flanks from what I've read.

That's an interesting slant I haven't considered, and yes if bringing in quality young players persuades the likes of Collins to stick around for another year then even better.CrosspoolClarets wrote: ↑Sun Jun 26, 2022 12:40 pmOne unacknowledged advantage of getting deals done early for cracking young players is that it may persuade some of our best players not to push for a move, Collins for example. A striker is a must for me, and if we can find one who'll bag 20 then we won't be far away. However I'd hope our midfield will contribute plenty of goals next season, especially now with the addition of Twine.

Last post on this, otherwise we’ll be on to the two pages of nonsense that I didn’t want, spoiling a thread with good news of a signing.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Sun Jun 26, 2022 12:38 pmNo you are theorising. I am going off exactly what he said.

You’re taking his / her point far too literally.
The reference to justifying the salary was if he manages to attract multiple players linked.
Do I think just that justifies his salary as a whole, no.
Do I get the point that was being made (attracting players to the club, increasing our profile / pulling power) yes.
Back to the signing - great news.

Re: ARTICLE: Twine unravelled
Perhaps we won't, although seemingly Twine can play up top, it would actually be better if the goals were spread throughout the side, instead of simply relying on one guy, because that said guy could pick up injuries or suffer a dip in form.boatshed bill wrote: ↑Sun Jun 26, 2022 12:53 pmI have a feeling we won't sign a striker, we have Barnes, Rodriguez, Richardson and the (some time or other) returning Vydra.

Re: ARTICLE: Twine unravelled
I hope we will be bringing in a striker. The current crop have/had injuries recently and 2 are getting on a bit now and may not fit how Kompany wants us to set up. Vydra may be OK but he's out for a while and Richardson is guess work as to whether he's up to it or not. IMO we definitely need to bring in a striker.
Edit that's if Twine isn't starting as a striker.
