Tough choice between Heaton and Pope, but Nick edged it due to playing more games, and just being the better all round keeper.

Think this will be a landslide for Pope - Heaton was brilliant for us though. Best two goalkeepers I've seen play for us
Re: ARTICLE: We’re selecting our best ever Premier League team
I think it's fair to say Jensen won't be getting many votes.

I honestly think some of the places will be won easily but there will be battles for some of the others.

Did Barton play enough in the Premier League to be included?

I'd certainly have Ward over Taylor. And wouldn't have Barton - don't think he played 20 PL games for us in any case. Not sure about the wingers eitherclaretcarrot93 wrote: ↑Mon Jun 27, 2022 10:17 amPope

Yeah fair point actually and Taylor/Ward was the hardest one. Probs go Westwood then, Maybe not easydistortiondave wrote: ↑Mon Jun 27, 2022 10:27 amDid Barton play enough in the Premier League to be included?
Re: ARTICLE: We’re selecting our best ever Premier League team
Westwood is on the decline but people seem to forget how important he was for us a few years ago. Couldn't win a game without him.claretcarrot93 wrote: ↑Mon Jun 27, 2022 10:37 amYeah fair point actually and Taylor/Ward was the hardest one. Probs go Westwood then, Maybe not easy

Looks like Brian is a contributor to this board - I can't explain how he managed to get a vote otherwise!

Re: ARTICLE: We’re selecting our best ever Premier League team
GK, RB, and two centre halves very very easy. Also Defour, Dwight and then Ings and Wood up front I would say.
On potential you’d maybe put Collins alongside Tarks, as ultimately I think he’ll be a superior player to Mee (not taking anything away from Mee, who has been phenomenal and is a shoe in, in this team.

No is the simple answer to that question.distortiondave wrote: ↑Mon Jun 27, 2022 10:27 amDid Barton play enough in the Premier League to be included?
The list is at

Looking down that list of Premier league appearances for Burnley, its scary to see that several of those players can claim once being a Premier League player.

Had to really think about Heaton vs Pope.
I think recency bias is the hardest thing to overcome.

I automatically went to vote for Nick, but Heats was awesome for us. It isn't fair to not choose either, so can we play with 2 goalies please.

We won’t need a defence with those two in the netsColburn_Claret wrote: ↑Mon Jun 27, 2022 11:39 amI automatically went to vote for Nick, but Heats was awesome for us. It isn't fair to not choose either, so can we play with 2 goalies please.

Out of the whole back five, the GK will be the hardest choice for me. We’ve been blessed in that position for sure. I have the other four sorted easily.

That's not unique to Burnley, it's surprising the names that have played PL football, admittedly not with great success, but yes they can still claim to have been a PL player.

3 that missed the cut and may have accrued some votes are Barton, Hart and Collins.

Re: ARTICLE: We’re selecting our best ever Premier League team
Barton was excellent in the promotion season but apart from his first two games when he came back he was average at best in the Premier League and is nowhere near in terms of our best Premier League midfielders.
Re: ARTICLE: We’re selecting our best ever Premier League team
Went for Heaton. His display at Man U, absolutely brilliant that day.

Re: ARTICLE: We’re selecting our best ever Premier League team
For me it would have to be 4-4-2:
Pope
Trippier Tarko Mee Taylor
Cornet Cork Defour McNeil
Wood Ings
Or possibly 4-5-1
Pope
Trippier Tarko Mee Taylor
Cornet Cork Westwood McNeil
Defour
Ings
I'll probably change my mind in 10 minutes

Re: ARTICLE: We’re selecting our best ever Premier League team
On his day he was superb and as good as a keeper could be. Just far too inconsistent and had quite a few poor games.
That Man U game at home for our first home game he was outstanding with a penalty save.
Re: ARTICLE: We’re selecting our best ever Premier League team
I went for Heaton too.
He had one season where him and De Gea were neck and neck for the best goalkeeper in the league imo. Pope has been phenomenal too, horrible decision really.

I went with Heaton, I just think Pope has had times when he’s been slightly out of form, but Heaton was always brilliant (possibly selective memory)

Which 3 lunatics voted for Jensen? Curly Larry and Mo? That’s like a spoilt paper in an election.
Not much between Pope, and Heaton. But Pope for me……………………. Just.

I went with Heaton
It’s a tough call though between him & Pope, but without Heaton being in goal for those initial seasons, I don’t think Pope would have had the chance to be a Premier League keeper for us

Re: ARTICLE: We’re selecting our best ever Premier League team
Heaton was excellent for us, but it should fairly comfortably be Nick Pope between the sticks.

Re: ARTICLE: We’re selecting our best ever Premier League team
Good point well made .... that save ( in a losing cause ) from Charlie Austin's header at St.Marys against Southampton, was the best save I've seen from a Burnley 'keeper since I started watching them in 1975 .... it's in the Gordon Banks v Pele category for me !

Pope's save against Traore (Villa) was similar to Heaton's at Southampton but Tom's was slightly better.

Re: ARTICLE: We’re selecting our best ever Premier League team
Jensen did enjoy a great run of form during our promotion/cup run season, but sadly he was out out his depth at PL level, admittedly he wasn't alone in that, and playing behind that defence any keeper would have struggled.
Individual performance has to be Tom at OT, even the Man U players were congratulating him at the end for earning us a point virtually single-handed.
