This is something that has interested me for a while, as the great Yugoslavian sides were all but gone by the time I understood the game properly in the early 90s.
Just listened to a preview of this on the radio… Lots of footballing stories to do with the breakup of Yugoslavia and the emergence of that ever so successful Croatian team of the 90s…Boban, Prosinečki, Šuker etc.
Free to watch at the following link, if you scroll down a bit.
As for Croatia itself, a stunning part of the world down its coastline and around its hundreds of islands.
Enjoy!

Ps. Looks to be some very good content on that streaming service, as well.

There’s a good article about it in The Guardian that I read a few weeks ago:

That side very nearly went to the WC final in 1998. Ironically the side that did go to the WC final 20 years later was missing a Davor Suker type player otherwise they could have won it.jdrobbo wrote: ↑Mon Jun 27, 2022 6:51 pmThis is something that has interested me for a while, as the great Yugoslavian sides were all but gone by the time I understood the game properly in the early 90s.

Interestingly, Yugoslavia did have a team go to the World Cup in 1998, although I’m not sure the country existed? Some great players too.
