I always thought Patterson’s contract cancellation was a mutual thing. But reading his quotes, it’s far from it.

I was listening to his under the cosh podcast episode a few months ago and he talks about the transfer that didn't happen. He got pelters about signing for Burnley, after the photo of him in the shirt went in the newspaper - I can't remember the exact quote but it was something along the lines of 'Even my mates were sending me death threats'.
