Cape Verde
No not a new player rumour. Looking to book 2 weeks in October. It's purely a beach holiday. I know zip about the islands although I believe Sol and Boa Vista are the main resorts. Have any of you well travelled clarets have any advice on places to stay things to do, types of restaurants to expect etc. Thanks in advance

Re: Cape Verde
Been about 14 years ago to Sal. Booked in summer for Boa Vista.
When we went to Sal - it was not developed outside the hotel at all really. Heard there is a bit more but still very much a holiday you do to go and chill and expect to stay mainly within the hotel complex.
Im not sure I could do 2 weeks there tbh as Im usually OK with a week if all I am doing is chilling by the pool. Need more to do to split the time up if going for longer.
Most hotels are All Inclusive and will have a wide range of food.

Re: Cape Verde
Was there a few years back in Sal..went with TUI..flight is a bit long so first tip ..pay for extra leg room seats for more comfort ..
There is nothing there really, very barren country so nothing to do only to go swimming in the sea and hotel pool and go all inclusive.
Go to the town Santa Maria in Sal to get the feel of life there but beware of the local giving you hassle to buy stuff..
Its good for wind surfing, swimming in the ocean and the weather is approx 23-28c ...and hardly any rain so make sure you take suntan lotion as you will defo need it

Re: Cape Verde
Think it was 14 or so years ago when we went. Very much in its infancy, even the hotel guide referred to it as being like landing on the moon. Language was a problem then as understandably locals didn't speak much English and we didn't speak Portugese. About a 6 hour flight. Always a breeze but very pleasant conditions though wear something on your feet on the beach as the sand is fairly gritty. Stayed a week and that was sufficient but intrigued to know how it has developed in the ensuing years.

Re: Cape Verde
Boa Vista was nice. Very underdeveloped outside of hotels. A mini desert. If your happy spending most of your time in hotel it is great.
We went quad biking around the desert when we were there which was a good way of looking around the island/desert.
Smallest desert in the world from memory.

Once sat in a bar in Mindelo (Sao Vicente, west of Sal) with a few of us discussing exactly that when we were interrupted by someone at an adjacent table who'd overheard; his comment: "You're frustrated; I'm from Portugal and I have trouble communicating with the locals" The Cap Verdean patois is ever further away from Portuguese than that which the Brazilians speak.Silkyskills1 wrote: ↑Wed Jun 29, 2022 11:39 am...Language was a problem then as understandably locals didn't speak much English and we didn't speak Portugese...

That's interesting. Just thought it was generic. I'm sure improvements have come about since.AfloatinClaret wrote: ↑Wed Jun 29, 2022 3:08 pmOnce sat in a bar in Mindelo (Sao Vicente, west of Sal) with a few of us discussing exactly that when we were interrupted by someone at an adjacent table who'd overheard; his comment: "You're frustrated; I'm from Portugal and I have trouble communicating with the locals" The Cap Verdean patois is ever further away from Portuguese than that which the Brazilians speak.

Re: Cape Verde
I’ve just arrived back after 2 weeks at the Touareg in Boavista. Not much to do on this island however if you are looking for complete relaxation then you don’t have to leave the resort it’s perfect.
If you want more touristy stuff then head to Sal.
