She don't lie, she don't lie, she don't lie
Cocaine.
I'm seeing it reported today that there's a move afoot to try and crack down on usage amongst footy fans
Snippets from a Telegraph article on this:
"Chief constable Richard Lewis, the National Police Chiefs’ Council’s lead on drugs, told MPs on Wednesday that he wanted to see a major expansion of testing football thugs amid growing cocaine use before, during and after games."
"He was backed by Charlie Doyle, assistant chief constable at the British Transport Police (BTP), who revealed BTP had carried out “discrete” drug swab tests on trains to try to establish the scale of the problem. Traces had been found on tables, train handles and in the toilets on match days, he said."
"Under the proposals, football fans who take cocaine or other class A drugs to matches will face bans of five years from all grounds."
A good move?

Surely the only people who wouldn't see it as a good move are the ones taking drugs at Football matches or on transport to Footy matches...LeadBelly wrote: ↑Wed Jun 29, 2022 10:22 pmCocaine.

For us? Just means there will only be me and my mate in the CFS.
It’s absolutely rife, not just at footy, all over the place. Everyone’s got a nose full these days.
Never seen so many young lads desperate for a “shite”…. Nearly queueing out the ground at half time. Sad bastards….

Which surely means it's past time to crack (pun intended) down. I think it's universally acknowledged that cocaine is bad for you? and if it's not, being in the company of out-of-control druggies is bad for everyone else.bobinho wrote: ↑Wed Jun 29, 2022 10:28 pmFor us? Some people (not including me) might se it as an erosion of civil liberties. (Eg in the way that there is quite noisy opposition to "stop and search" - which to me seems an obvious way to deter knife crime).

All drugs have deadly consequences from the where it is produced to the end user these people are ruining their lives, might seem glamorous now but look at the washed out zombies hanging around towns, old before their time offering nothing to society, this needs a clampdown and determined action to stop the supply.

Of course it needs cracking down on at football.
It also needs cracking down on at pubs, restaurants, public toilets, work places etc.
Gordon Ramsay did a series about cocaine a few years ago and discovered that usage in his restaurants was rife.
https://m.imdb.com/title/tt7440620/?ref_=ext_shr_lnk
They're not even sniffing much cocaine, it's been cut so much with other products it's very watered down, pure cocaine sniffed at the same rate would kill most of these idiots
As a society we've allowed its use to get out of control and become acceptable, in the same way we've done with cannabis usage, so reversing the trend will be nigh on impossible I think.

It's never been outright illegal last I checked, to buy/drink alcohol.
Yes we've allowed excessive drinking to become the norm and binge drinking in various forms, whether it's a glass/bottle of wine every night etc and that should be looked at.

As above I would legalise all drugs.
With rules:
A) if you commit an offence whilst UTI the sentence will be double.
B) NHS facilities can be used but paid for.
C) Failure to pay will lead to community work until deemed appropriate.
Far to much money is spent trying to stop the import of these products. Staff that could be used in other areas of customs or police will be freed up.It would putan end to the drug gangs just getting richer and richer. the shootings/knifings/physical assaults carried out by these gangs would reduce, again freeing up emergency services.

Re: She don't lie, she don't lie, she don't lie
I’m glad these types of drugs weren’t prolific when I was around my twenties. Being an adventurous but stupid young man, I’m sure I would have been tempted to try, and god knows where that would have led. Being in the emergency services for 30yrs I could see the problem getting more and more serious, and we’ve gained entry into premises only to find a blue lump in the corner slowly decaying. We once had an expert give us a lecture and he stated that parents who had tried drugs at Uni/college ect didn’t realise that the drugs their children were trying were 10x stonger.
Like others, I remain convinced that if some of the lesser drugs are legalised and regulated, it would stop some of the youth slipping down a very steep slope. Get rid of the bad drug sellers, who want to get you on the hard stuff, by Mixing some of the softer drugs with extras, for their advantage, can only be a good thing.
Sadly my nephew has been gripped by this terrible addiction. He’s robbed of strangers/family even his elderly Nan. He’s been beaten up by dealers and sometimes lives in fear of his life, until he needs his next fix. He suffers from mental illness as a result of these drugs, and as he reaches his mid thirties, it’s only a matter of time before someone will have to identify him on a slab.

"Under the proposals, football fans who take cocaine or other class A drugs to matches will face bans of five years from all grounds."
Isn't the prison sentence for possession of class A drugs potentially longer than 5 years in any case? If it can be proven that an individual has taken such drugs to a football match then surely they should be subjected to the law of the land and the 5 year ban then becomes irrelevant?
I'm not really that naive! I guess the punishment for a 'first' offence would go something like : "Hold out your hand". Thwack! "Now go and clean up the litter on the canal bank for an hour and don't do it again. Oh, by the way, you can't go to any football grounds for a week or two."

Seems odd to tackle football grounds first when it’s rife in every pub in every town, village and city.
It’s so common it’s practically legal. There doesn’t seem to be any real deterrent to anyone who wants to take it.

I always read it (in the JJ Cale original and Eric C's various versions) as "lie"- as in: it will reveal the (not nice) truth about yourself.
I have to say that I've never partaken this substance so Ive no idea what effects it has from the inside (as opposed to seeing the efefcts as a third party). .

I did, I just quoted the important part. And it doesn't change my point. They don't care about consequences. And even if they don't break any laws, they will still act like obnoxious p*****s. Legalising it, even with caveats, doesn't solve that problem

Statistically, the purity of cocaine in Britain is greater now than ever before and it’s actually the price which has ‘watered down’
Also cannabis, with zero toxicity and well documented medical benefits, belongs nowhere near this conversation

Cannabis - yes it has medicinal purposes, however I know of numerous stoners who can't function socially without it and some are struggling with depression so badly the doctors have nothing that works because the cannabis is causing such an issue with the people.
Cocaine - it's watered down, cut with other products, has been for years, these idiots are sniffing all sorts of weird and wonderful stuff.
Pure cocaine would kill them in the same quantity

The cannabis is the main issue with the depression being there I suspect, but until they're willing to cut back on their smoking of it they're not going to get much sympathy from me.
With legal drugs you know what you're getting, with the cocaine you don't, why are you so intent on arguing about this?
Re: She don't lie, she don't lie, she don't lie
Well, even with legally dispensed drugs, you don’t actually know what you’re getting, you just feel secure because it’s prescribed or endorsed by a medically professional body. Take a look, there’s a long history of harmful medicines being promoted by doctors.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Fri Jul 01, 2022 8:23 pmThe cannabis is the main issue with the depression being there I suspect, but until they're willing to cut back on their smoking of it they're not going to get much sympathy from me.

Listen, cocaine use is not good and has a harmful impact on the users and their wider environment. I endorse anything the club/police/BTP can do to reduce it.
The subject of drug use is emotive for many. I’m interested in this discussion as I think that people making statements based on their emotions rather than facts is really negative and actually harmful to sufferers of dependency and addiction.

How damaging or harmful a drug is can, and is measured by its physical and societal impact. Cannabis doesn’t even make the top 5 so I can only assume your personal experiences to be misaligned with the greater environment which is the source of these statistics.
‘Skunk’ is merely a name of a strain or variety of cannabis which is no stronger than many other strains. The tabloid media latched on to this name a few years ago and it’s been misunderstood ever since. I think your opinions are not based on facts
