Re: Rocky RIP
As with many, first heard as a scream from somewhere on the Longside!
Rest In Peace. (Not a word I normally associate with Rocky!)

Re: Rocky RIP
Remember seeing him in a pub somewhere in Wales on the way to Cardiff once, and the effing and jeffing was something else.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Thu Jun 30, 2022 7:18 pmI’m trying to imagine his reaction to him trending on Twitter - it would probably have brought with it a barrage of bad language.
I doubt we will see the likes of him again.
Had to be taken in small doses did that lad.

Re: Rocky RIP
Did you ever get a crack round the head off him? That bloody hurt and his hand covered a teenage lads head in one.
Re: Rocky RIP
Sad news, always made me smile even on awful away days.
RIP Rocky!

If we ever have a club museum, his cap should be one of the exhibits!

Re: Rocky RIP
Remember him on a radio Lancashire phone in, after a home match.
He was slating Beresford, our then goalkeeper and told the presenter.... that if I was the manager, he would be getting the biggest ,BOLLOCKING, he had ever had!
Needless to say, it was a very quick interview!
RIP Rocky, you certainly brightened up many an away day!!

My kids were brought up taking them to the Turf and they loved Rocky. Always … ALWAYS had a word for them on match days.. thanks for the memories Rocky.. My dad has a new drinking buddy at the pub in the sky.. . Attack attack attack!!!!
Re: Rocky RIP
I'm a bit younger than Rocky and grew up living not far from him. As CT said, he had hands like shovels, I'd say more like that of a Gorilla, as did all his brothers. I remember his Dad was about the height of Rocky, but twice as wide and his Mum was a short frail lady. When people nowadays say they're hard up, believe me, it is nothing to the hardships that family endured. He spent his youth body building and had a very good physique.
One day I went with my mate to Rocky's cottage, which can be seen off the M65 before the junction into Burnley, from Nelson.
As we approached the back of the house in the rain, which had a stable door, the top half was open. A Donkey stuck its head over it, from the inside. My mate shouted out "Rocky" and he appeared, shoving the Donkey to the side. " What you doing with a Donkey in the fkn kitchen". Classic Rocky, I'm not leaving it stood out in the rain. But what if it pisses inside, " I've a bucket of water and a mop, open he door and swill it out.
Re him and Selwyn, for some reason, I had it my head it was at Bmouth away, when they had a game of it's a Knockout, where Selwyn, ( great character) known for his large stomach, ran at each other, belly bouncing, in what I'd describe as great entertainment for the Burnley fans. The police came and intervened, maybe thinking it was a fight. They tried to restrain Rocky, but he stood there, muscles flexed as they tried to restrain him. No way were they going to put his arms behind his back, as much as they tried. Barrie Oliver who was a Special Constable Inspector intervened and said to the officers, they were entertaining the fans and not fighting. Given his assurance the police let them free, on the understanding they sat with Barrie during the match.

Re: Rocky RIP
Can there be ANY Burnley fan who doesn't know who Rocky is (or sadly now, was) ? Very sad to see this news this week. When I heard I text my son who, having been brought up in the South of England and now living in Brighton, has always been an occasional match-attender and I just said "Rocky has died"/ He immediately knew who I was referring to and replied saying how sad he was to hear the news too.
RIP Rocky....a unique character in the real sense of the word and , whilst I never wanted to sit that close to you, I think I will really miss seeing and hearing you now.

Re: Rocky RIP
Sorry to hear about Rocky
I sat next to him once away at Norwich in FA Cup - jammed into one corner of the ground, we lost 2-0 I think and he spent the whole game standing and shouting extremely loudly 'get into 'em' The Home supporters were pointing him out to each other and after that although I made a point of keeping my distance (sitting wise) he certainly was a character and will be missed.
RIP

Absolute legend, will be sorely missed.
Re: Rocky RIP
Rockys funeral details posted by his daughter on FB, she wants to get the message to everyone possible...
His big send off will be held at his beloved Turf Moor at 11 o'clock on Thursday 14th July then on to the Crematorium for family and friends at 12 15 them turfmoor for the wake. We ask if everyone can wear claret and blue. We want to celebrate his amazing life. And give him the send off a legend deserves.

Re: Rocky RIP
Just got back from holiday. Very sad to read this.
I remember when I used to take my wife with me to away games and she used to groan if Rocky was in the vicinity of us. True character though. You could definitely call him original.
One funny recollection of him was away at QPR many years ago and we were three nil down at half time with some awful refereeing decisions, and Rocky was taking a pee in the toilets at half time. He was chuntering loudly about the ref whilst he was having a pee with an expletive every other word, when a fellow claret came in and said that the ref was brilliant and having a cracking game to wind Rocky up. Rocky almost chased him out of there before he had done his flies up.
Rest in Peace Rocky lad. You were sometimes a tad annoying, sometimes very funny but always a true claret and now a legend.

Re: Rocky RIP
One of my earliest memories of Rocky was at the play off final v Stockport at the old Wembley in 94 when I was in the bogs who did I find myself next to but Rocky, so I just said the usual, Allreet Rocky when did you get down here (was a Sunday afternoon game I think) his reply was “Thursday morning” made me chuckle, RIP Rocky.

Re: Rocky RIP
Very Rocky - he was in a claret & blue coffin and the funeral was conducted by Pete Smith from Sky.
Not as many there as I’d expected at the funeral itself but there were a lot stood on Harry Potts Way as the cortège went past on the way to the crem.
A real character gone but at least I won’t get smacked around the head now for calling him Derek.

Re: Rocky RIP
I remember one home game where we had conceded a last minute equalizer walking down Brunshaw Road (as it was then) to the sound of Rocky saying "*******,*******, *******, ....." on endless repeat with each repetition accompanied by a fist pump. No idea when he stopped but presumably before he went to sleep that night.

Yes, when Rocky went for a check up it was certainly from the neck up.

Yes, a character you could not fail to miss. I always loved away games and seeing the faces of our fans when reaching their seats to realise they were sitting in front of Rocky.
It real does feel like the start of a new era in our clubs history and there is no doubt he is part of that history.
