Re: Martin Paterson
Played alongside Wade didn't he in that memorable Coyle season, so no surprise to see them linking up again.
A player who could have had a much better career than he ultimately did, again injuries played their part.
What we'd give for someone of Paterson's ilk now to spearhead another promotion charge,

Re: Martin Paterson
I knew he was taking a former Burnley team mate in with him but I would never have guessed at Paterson.

Re: Martin Paterson
Not the most gifted striker, but he had one hell of a work ethic.
Defenders never got a moment's rest when he played, no wonder the lad was always knackered early on. Probably part of the reason for his injuries too.

Re: Martin Paterson
In those days we used to pay £2m for a 12 goal striker, now we pay £12m for a 2 goal striker.

Re: Martin Paterson
Oh! yeah brain fade, Duff and Patterson would have still played in the same Burnley side though.

I see what you did there. Can't argue with the facts though.distortiondave wrote: ↑Mon Jul 04, 2022 4:46 pmIn those days we used to pay £2m for a 12 goal striker, now we pay £12m for a 2 goal striker.

Re: Martin Paterson
All the best to him. It was like watching Liam Robinson but with end product… a very exciting player before the injuries. Great to see ex-clarets now re-appearing at decent levels as mangers and coaches.
Re: Martin Paterson
There are many many players that have more ability than Paterson but dont match his work ethic and therefore will never play at the level he managed
He made the most of his ability by hard work on the pitch

Re: Martin Paterson
Yeah, I know, there's something not right. It just doesn't look like Martin Paterson.
I know it IS Martin Paterson, but it doesn't look like Martin Paterson. I can't really explain it. If I bumped into the bloke pictured in Asda or something I'd never twig it was Martin Paterson, but if I was working passport control and Martin Paterson came up to me and showed me that picture on his passport, I'd let him through.

Re: Martin Paterson
Had a good natter with him at the bar on the US pre-season tour. Was struck by how mature and well adjusted he seemed for a 21 yr old.

In some cases age obviously improves looks.
Re: Martin Paterson
Or £2.5m for a zero goal striker who apparently just needed a goal to open the floodgates.distortiondave wrote: ↑Mon Jul 04, 2022 4:46 pmIn those days we used to pay £2m for a 12 goal striker, now we pay £12m for a 2 goal striker.
